It'll be interesting to see if Uruguay can pull a Dutchie and make a comeback in the second half. They sure have the necessary quality.

I think they will

Cracking game so far. Much better than the Brazil vs Netherlands "classic". Here's hoping they keep up the pace in extra time.

How is that not a goal? It clearly would have gone in, the way the rules are set up encourages cheating.

Well, that's a pretty sad way to end a game.

[censored] handball inches from a goal, what a [censored] move.

So...

I'm beyond angry right now. This is about as unfair win as it gets. I hope Urugayians have the decency to at least feel a bit ashamed.

I agree.

That's the last soccer match I'll be watching. From now on I think I will stick to watching real sports.

Amongst all your outrage, remember that Uruguay should have had a penalty in the first half of extra time.

Anyway, that was far and away the best match of the competition so far. It literally had EVERYTHING you could want from a game of football.

Also, though the TV didn't show any replays, allegedly the free kick that Ghana got their penalty from shouldn't have been given anyway.

But really, neither team deserved to lose that match. Chainsaw the World Cup in half and give a piece to each of them.

Why is it cheating? There is no cheating going on. The defencemen got a red card, Ghana got a penelty kick, and they didn't capitilze. No cheating at all. The consenquences were delivered. If you look at the replay, it is human instincts to raise up your hand.

I bet anyone who is complaing about this, would do the exact same thing. Even if he didn't want to do it, I don't think he couldn't do it, just human nature to put hands up to deflect the ball.

The defence man paid the price for it. He got a read card, he got ejected, can't play the next game, and Ghana got a penelty shot that they couldn't capitlize on. If I am not mistaken this is the first penelty shot that was missed that wasn't sudden death penelty shots.

I know people are bitter about Ghana's loss but there was no cheating involved. Suarez got a red card, Ghana (who won many games in WC2010 until today with penalties, ironically) won a penalty, and couldn't make it count. End of story. Only if he wasn't penalized with a card and a penalty would you be right to call him a cheater or a "disgrace".

I'm also sad to see Ghana eliminated like this, but don't blame Suarez.

Am I the only one who thought it was a brilliant move by Suarez? Sure, it might not be fair, and I'm still a bit tipsy from the Dutch game, but he had nothing to lose. He single handedly (LOL) kept his team in the game. I loved it. This game had it all, intrigue, emotion, genius. LOVED it.

EDIT: Also, we will win the World Cup now, it's inevitable.

EDIT2: And third, I've got to thank Felipe Melo, who was the best player on our team. We couldn't have done it without him, bless you!

I'm not saying he's a cheater, the rules are clear, and it sure was brilliant. It saved the goal, saved his team, destroyed Ghana. It was brilliant, in a cheap, dirty way, the same way goaltending in the NBA would be brilliant if it wasn't banned...

It was a cheap trick, but Ghana did get the chance to capitalize, and they didn't.

I know all the rules were followed, but that action knocked Ghana out of the World Cup.

if its the final play, a red card doesnt mean much to that game, therefore having a defencer act as goal keeper in that situation is really dirty. putting your arms (and he used both) out ot stop it on the goal line means that Uruguay got a second chance at winning the game, where if he hadnt done it, they would have lost. I hope the Uruguay player gets absolutley slammed for doing that.

I believe the rules need changing, in a situation like that where a handball stops the ball going into the goal on the goalline, the goal should be awarded anyway, not the other team being forced into a dot shot where it can miss. Harry Khewll did it with Australia, as much as I didnt want him to be sent off, its the same situation, goal should be awarded without the need of a dot shot, luckily Ghana managed to score off that dot shot.

Wrong. Ghana missing three penalties (one during the game, two during the shootouts) knocked Ghana out of the World Cup. Suarez broke the rules and was punished for it: red card and a penalty. The ball didn't pass the line, so no goal.
