Yellow card, huh?

He claimed he didn't see him. Like I said, as deliberate as going to the toilet and taking a [censored].

Also made history with the number of yellow cards given, which was amusing.

Which also happened to us in the game with Portugal (IIRC) a few years ago.

That was just terrible refereeing though.

Yeah, I was saying to my Dad about that game but he'd forgotten it because he's an old man.

Wasn't that in the Euro Cup that Spain went on to win?

Just a few hours have gone and it's already a gif? The Internet's been busy, I see. Will this turn out to be another Zidane/This is Sparta meme?

That was just terrible refereeing though.

There should also have been a corner instead of the ball given to the goalie just before the goal. And an offside for the pass which got blocked. Also, Robben held by Puyol which got no foul. And then there was the attack that Fabregas set up, which got no fouls whatsoever on the Spanish side (ended in Villa kicking the ball to the right of the goal). And the red card for Heitinga was totally undeserved (second yellow anyway). So there's some things that I could see off the http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/highlights/video/video=1272929/index.html And then also the dirty extensions by Spain after the goal (ball kicked away, taking loads of time to set up), and the fouls on Robben, etc...

Holland needs to play aggressive and physical, not the waiting game like those poor, misguided Germans. Van Bommel and De Jong need to bully around those spanish dwarfs. Btw, I don't care about the Dutch I just have some money on them winning.

Let me quote myself...
Holland played exactly like I suggested. I didn't expect so many vicious tackles though. This Dutch team really has only 2 or 3 players with any sort of skill or flair.

Well that's the world cup of 2010 over with, not the best of tournaments though.

And now role on the domestic season with my beloved Leeds United marching on to promotion to the premiership.

And about the game: fun enough to watch in a packed Spanish bar, although the hack-a-Spaniard was a bit annoying. Robben really lost a lot of credit with me for all of his whining. I think all-in-all the ref did a good job and the better team won. Amazing that the Furia Roja only allowed 2 goals the whole tournament. All that beastly Barca defence, and some stellar goaltending to credit for that.

Quite some. Just my great grandfather on my mother's father's side was Spanish, the rest of the family is German, Irish, French and Swedish quite some time into the family tree. Makes for interesting family festivities. :hehe:

A couple of things of note. I've heard a lot of people complaining about the Spanish waving imaginary cards after fouls to try get the Dutch players booked. Normally I'd join in condemning this as a form of cheating, but I think last night the Spanish were well within their rights to call for bookings not to gain any sort of advantage, but to get better protection from some of the truly vicious tackles the Dutch were putting in, which were aimed solely at the man and were never in any danger of getting anywhere near the ball.

Secondly, I've been singing the praises of Van Bronckhorst for a while now and saying it would be nice to see him lift the World Cup before he retired. I'll always love him as a player for some of the great performances he put in for Rangers, but after last night he really let himself down by failing to exert any sort of calming influence on his team mates as captain. A good captain would have calmed his players down and told them not to go into tackles so recklessly. It was only a matter of time before one of them got sent off, and it's a wonder it took so long.

Puyol holding Robben was the second most blatant foul of the game. The first was De Jong kicking Alonso, but that didn't get the call it should have, either. So, all in all, not such a good job on the ref's part.

Placed 8th in my fantasy league out of more than 22 teams, and I only entered in the 3rd round of the group stage. Feels good man.

Sure, that should've been a foul, but he dove afterwards, and it was outside the box. But he was complaining well before that, and I don't blame the ref for not calling Puyol. Robben had whined and dove all game, and if you complain to the ref and he knows your faking, he's not going to give you any close calls. Robben surely would have gotten a yellow card after that play too for yelling at the ref, if he hadn't bumped into a Spanish player.

Meh, not a fan of the referee. All our cards were deserved, but with all the complaining going on around here, I find it hard to believe no one has mentioned the 3 dives Iniesta made. The red card didn't change the game much, we even had more chances after that, so I can live with that. It should have been a corner however and that mistake cost us the game. With 3 minutes left and a corner we would have made it to penalties.

You've clearly never watched Robben play. All he ever does is complain and dive all over the place. He spends more time on his ass than on his feet.
