Well that's the world cup of 2010 over with, not the best of tournaments though.

And now role on the domestic season with my beloved Leeds United marching on to promotion to the premiership.

Heh. You seen the Damned United?

Also, Holland deserved to win. They proved they were the manliest (fly kicking a player in the chest etc)
Any team that makes me piss myself with laughter deserves the world cup. DAMN YOU SPAIN!!

Iniesta should have been sent off.

 Why, the Dutch should have been down to 9 men at half time

I keep seeing this "Iniesta should have been sent off". without a shred of justification.

He kicked Van Bommel without anyone around and had two ridiculous dives that even Robben would be proud of.

We were lucky to still have eleven players, but Spain was really lucky to still have Iniesta, to get a keepers ball instead of a corner in the last 4 minutes of the game and to get a goal, when the first ball that was passed at Iniesta was clearly offside.

EDIT: On a more general note, if Webb had given yellow cards to players who asked for yellow cards to be given when fouled than there would be no one left on the field.

He bumped into Van Bommel after about the third or fourth time VB had gone in studs-up on him. It was a bit of handbags between a thug and a player fed up with counting stud marks. What were the two dives? People have said he dived to get Heitinga sent off - he certainly went down lightly, but a tug is a tug and Heitinga deserved the second yellow for a professional foul. As we saw with Robben, referees wont give a free kick these days unless the player goes down, meaning there's no incentive to stay on your feet after being fouled.

EDIT: On a more general note, if Webb had given yellow cards to players who asked for yellow cards to be given when fouled than there would be no one left on the field.

Reminds me of a line from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqpJ6XYykHE song.

On a more general note...has anyone noticed that Karma seems to have broken out in this World Cup?

Regardless of what the feverent fans of many teams would say, I sense that, roughly speaking, Karmic retribution for all the sins of this and previous Cups seem to have been visited on many teams this year.

Yeah I also saw England beat Argentina when Rooney punched the ball into the net....

So, looks like Kevin Thomson is on his way to Middlesbrough. This was supposed to be the transfer window when Rangers started signing players again... Instead we've lost Kris Boyd, Nacho Novo, Steven Smith, Damarcus Beasely, Steven Lennon, Paul Emslie, Steven Kinniburgh, and now it looks like KT is on his way out. We also seem to be resigned to losing Danny Wilson and Madjid Bougherra. On the plus side, I hear we got a couple of teenagers in from Millwall, so we might still be able to field 11 players  And to rub salt in the wounds, so far we've not received a single penny transfer fee <_< Club's in a right mess.

Europa League starts soon! (tomorrow?)

I suppose I should be excited but it just depresses me.

All I had to think of for a month was the World Cup but now I'm back to contemplating why Liverpool were so [censored] last season, what're we going to do to change it and how long it is until Gerrard and Torres leave :(

Edit: Undone, I think Wilson is a done deal - I'm sure I read something before that said it was.

Edit 2: No, apparently not. I must've imagined it.

I wonder which german will pay what amount of money to eat him. I'm guessing a couple million franks, or whatever their currency is.

Good that we seem to be in for a winger, but do Rangers seriously not have scouts outside the Championship? It's just about the WORST league to buy from; both prices and wages are seriously over-inflated. I'd rather we picked up the "next big thing" in a somewhat unknown quantity than pay over the odds for someone known to be solidly average.

To end the World Cup news: Puyol retires from international football, Webb doesn't regret anything about the final (that's hard to believe for both sides :P), the Netherlands have kicked themselves to the nr 2 spot on the FIFA list and got a proper party yesterday (it was awesome) and to save the best for last, Iniesta thought he was offside when he scored!

It was nice to actually try to win something this time, instead of just playing beautiful soccer, but I hope we can get back to the latter now.

FC Utrecht has to play tonight for something UEFA cup related or whatever it's new name is, but I can't really be bothered to watch that one.

He's a good player, former Man United, was sad to see him go. Burnley were in the Premier League last season before getting relegated, so that would be where they scouted him from.

EDIT: Well, apparently he's not going now anyway, so it doesn't matter.

At least your country has some teams that don't make a fool of themselves against teams from Latvia, Belarus and the like. I miss the sound of vuvuzelas

Yup, saw that one coming a mile off. Give it another week or so and we'll be linked with David Healy again. Another 10 years THEN we might finally start signing players from outside the Championship again.
