Football Thread - World Cup Special VII

I can't believe they are going for it! This is great.

Hey, all they need is about ten more goals, a win, and a Portugal loss. They also need Drogba to be as good as he is on FIFA 10. It could happen!

I love this ref, he's not taking any [censored]. More refs should be showing players cards for complaining and diving.

I'm not watching the game, but is it the same ref as Italy vs. Slovakia? Although it was an exciting game, my favorite part was him going to a "downed" player and telling him to get up. That was gold.

WATCH IT! :toughninja:

And I got 10 to 1 on Japan qualifying from the group stage, (laughs all the way to the betting office)

In fairness I don't think I would be wrong in saying many of the players from the Euro 2004 winning team have retired your (although you are surely more of a yorkshirewoman than greek by standards of duration? ) main keeper in that tournement was nothing short of amazing. Along with many many other talented players with very difficult names to say.

How much money did you make from that 10 to 1 bet?

Slovakia to go all the way though I think!

This Brazil - Portugal game has been rubbish. One of the worst games of the World Cup so far.

Really disappointed with Portugal. They played with no guts whatsoever. Hope they get creamed in their next match. :meh:

They got one of them - wide open goal mouth. Yay!

Terrible red card decision. Get up Torres you diving pansy.

2-0 up Spain.

I can see Chile score one, but with one player less it's going to be difficult.

He didn't dive, his trailing leg was clipped making hip trip over, but it was completely accidental as far as I could tell and didn't warrant a second yellow.

Yep, he wasn't even looking at Torres when he clipped his foot. Bad call.

I agree. Apparently, going by what the ref has been saying chile aren't actually allowed to touch the ball without getting a foul against them.

Sorry I just call it a dive when someone falls down and stays down waiting for the ref to show a card. Anyway, it didn't warrant a red card. And Torres has been awful.

Unlucky deflection for Spain, but Chile have come out strong from the break. Credit to them for not giving up.

That game was sloppy and depressing.

Incidentally, (I was at a friend's house and couldn't post last night) Estrada, the Chilean who was sent off had just hacked Inestia down and was extremely lucky to be still on the field after hoofing everyone all night, so he got his. Chileans play with the boot in and are already men down with suspensions. That's their style, not dirty, but very physical and they'll pay for it. Shame really. They're excellent to watch.

They should do better against Brazil, who aren't as likely to flop around on the ground like a wounded animal when an opponent so much as looks at them the wrong way. Although, that sort of cleverness is starting to pop up in more places. :glare:

I don't see any clipping. What Yias said counts, but Torres got off lightly.
