MARADONA please!!

:P The way Argentina played in qualifying made me wonder sometimes if it wasn't Madonna in charge.

Maradona clearly isn't a good manager, he's lucky his squad are so good.

He's absolutely bat [censored] crazy, I mean, he really is...

That he is. I've heard that he can pretty much get his players to do anything he wants, because they absolutely worship him. Maybe that's the secret to their success so far.

FIFA really needs to step up to the plate and do something about these calls. I know you can't keep them from happening, but at least do something to keep them in check. Implement a replay for crying out loud, it's not that hard.

What are all of you complaining about the disalowed goal doing here? If you guys are so good why are you not working as refs and judges then? I bet anything if you were there, you wouldn't have called the goal either.

When watching in real time, I say 99% of us wouldn't have caught it either. It's one thing seeing it live and missing it, it's another being at home watching replays, but it being slowed down big time.

Ask yourself this and please answer. When they show the replay, why is the replay in reduced speed? Why did they show the replay in slow motion?

I think they slowed it down because if they showed it in normal speed we wouldn't catch it.

Which is why just about every sports league allows refs to use replay to help them get the call right.

Great match so far!

I'm rooting for Germany, but the English were robbed of what might prove to be a crucial goal. It proves two things: Not only the USA suffer from these decisions, and Blatter should resign.

It's not just the USA and England, every country will feel the sting of a bad decision at some point.

Yeah, what Crypto said. It doesn't excuse the last half of the second half though. So depressing...

Personally I'm not feeling obliged to jump on the "OMG CAPELLO AND ALL THE PLAYERS ARE [censored]". Rooney has let us down, badly - our supposed only "World Class" player has been abysmal in every match. Lampard was the best player for us today but was rubbish in the previous 3. Gerrard played 'ok' in all 4 (was great first-half but shocking second half today). Terry was solid in the first 3 but was even worse than Rooney today. Milner, Ashley Cole and Defoe have probably maintained their reputation and Milner has arguably been our best player of the tournament.

Capello has played the same way that he played to qualify us. We were great in qualifying so I have no problem with him doing it now. He's been let down by the players.

Heskey will get a crazy amount of [censored] for no reason. Against USA he was MoM and against Algeria he was hardly the worst player.

I'll probably do a more thorough post-mortem on Tuesday after exams but this'll do for now.

I'm thinking that each of these players will go back to their clubs, with their foreign players beside them to make them look good. Yeah these guys can be astonishing players, but they seriously seem to loose their dynamic when playing together.

All I have to say to that match is. What the [censored] was Peter Crouch? We didnt need a defence that was already getting torn up. Theres nothing much you can do to improve your defence when they have let so many runs through, been dragged around the pitch and just smashed up. Shoulda put strikers on for the last 30-20 minutes, at least we might have had a chance of a less embarassing goal margin.

Fabio Crappelo. I had faith in you. dike.

Yesterday was a complete and utter distaster....my god. Why these people get to be refs in Wc is beyond me. Just the fact that the ref from the eng-ger game needs police protection says alot. :shakehead:

That's just a sad reflection on the mentality of a lot of football fans.

Erm everyone in the stadium new that it was a goal. Besides, you argument is a bad one because it was a bad call, end of. Replays should be used or at least there should be another official by the goal line.

Actually, that is the job of the linesman. He should have been hustling his butt down to the corner so that he would be in proper position to make that call. Instead, he decided to be lazy, and got caught out on it.

Last night I dreamed that Argentina beat Germany by a large number of goals. Just getting it in early. Which is a shame really, because I want Germany to play Ghana so we can have 2 brothers playing against each other in a world cup match for probably the first time ever.

We're totally in control of this match. I expect we pop in 2 more come second half.

EDIT: My avatar apparently changed from one Sigur Ros album to another over night. Wth?

Holland's wingers switched over too, didn't do any harm.

See, now there's the problem with drinking during football competitions- you completely forget who's even played.
