for all of you that are worried about graphics

Graphics are some what important but it doesn't make the game. If you have fugly looking characters and NPCs then I'm afraid that's a game killer to me. Even more of a game killer is a lack of plot, story, character development, so on.

Dragon Age: Origins, IMO, had a great story. The graphics were sub-par as compared to Mass Effect which had actually come out before DA:O. DA:O got much praise but not for its graphics. They were pretty bland, boring and outdated. Now, I absolutely loved playing DA:O, but if it had something close to the visuals of ME (both are Bioware games, don't know about the engine though) I really do think it would have added something more to that story. A good story and great gameplay are certainly a must, but as technology moves forward, we can also use stunningly gorgeous vistas, environments and character models to supplement that gameplay which makes the game, as an overall package, something even more beautiful and breathtaking.

I know it's been mentioned on occasion that many people would play Skyrim with Oblivion/Morrowind graphics or even Daggerfall or Arena levels of graphics as long as the gameplay was great, but come on, let's be honest. Would you have paid $150 for a CE or $60 for the non CE of Skyrim, if the graphics looked like the original Castle Wolfenstein?

Sure I agree, graphics don't need to be super-maxed out PC Crysis 2 level, but they should at least constantly improve.

Funny you mentioned DAO. I just started playing it and I love it. It looks good to me. Love the story so far.

DA had ugly backgrounds but at least the characters were good looking. The story even better. It was win for me.

Well, story is pretty much the only thing that it has.

If graphics aren't important then why don't current games look like Doom and Daggerfall?

okay, apparently my point was a bit too subtle. each person has their own opinions. i'm glad you don't think graphics aren't very important. but telling other people they don't matter when those other people think that they DO matter is just ignorant.

no offense.

I'm with you here, i find the Gaming and Graphics to almost be equal :D
people pretty much keep spreading the message that it's a "Fact" that gaming is better.

Because it attracts casual gamers.

Graphics to enhance gameplay are great. Gameplay to enhance graphics are rarely good at all.

Heh, graphics. I'd rather worry about how the game plays, the story, or the entertainment/replay value rather than graphics. I play Minecraft without texture packs most the time, and despite it's crappy graphics... it's still worth hours of entertainment.

This is also why I can live with it on Xbox (least powered graphics-wise). Graphics don't matter, the game does. ^_^

Graphics don't really matter unless they're really awful or very good. In the latter case, it's "ooh, pretty" and then wears off after a while.

Good art direction is more important. Take something like Red Dead Redemption in mind - it looks great, but it's not because of super high res textures, fancy lighting, and new graphics buzzwords.

Immersion factor =
A-Story
B-Graphics/visuals
C-Music/sound
D-Gameplay

A,C and D are the same across the platforms. B is not and you want the best possible immersion factor possible. If I sat there knowing the other system is much improved, I would jump that direction as I'm a stickler for detail and the best possible experience.

Its a matter of perspective. To me, games are an artform, therefore to me, graphics do matter.
I think really though, most games should have a good balance between both, such as whilst I played Final Fantasy 13 with amazing graphics, it only held my attention for about half the game before I lost heart to finish it, simply due to what I found to be boring as a pile of bricks gameplay.
On the other end of the spectrum, I liked two worlds for quite a while, but the graphics made it impossible for me to take any of the characters seriously. (Not to mention the atrocious voice acting)
