Dragon Age: Origins, IMO, had a great story. The graphics were sub-par as compared to Mass Effect which had actually come out before DA:O. DA:O got much praise but not for its graphics. They were pretty bland, boring and outdated. Now, I absolutely loved playing DA:O, but if it had something close to the visuals of ME (both are Bioware games, don't know about the engine though) I really do think it would have added something more to that story. A good story and great gameplay are certainly a must, but as technology moves forward, we can also use stunningly gorgeous vistas, environments and character models to supplement that gameplay which makes the game, as an overall package, something even more beautiful and breathtaking.
I know it's been mentioned on occasion that many people would play Skyrim with Oblivion/Morrowind graphics or even Daggerfall or Arena levels of graphics as long as the gameplay was great, but come on, let's be honest. Would you have paid $150 for a CE or $60 for the non CE of Skyrim, if the graphics looked like the original Castle Wolfenstein?
Sure I agree, graphics don't need to be super-maxed out PC Crysis 2 level, but they should at least constantly improve.
