Well, graphics do kind of matter. Who cares though? 'Cause Skyrim's look amazing.

I believe you mean that, for you, graphics are less important than gameplay. Because otherwise, I'll sell you some text-based RPGs for $80.

Who's worried about graphics? Considering Morrowind and Oblivion's graphics weren't all that great (for their time, yes.) and kept hundreds of people entertained for years, I don't think graphics are so much of a concern as the experience.

They should matter when the game is supposedly dumbed down because of them. :P

GRAPHICS DONT MATTER

In a game like Skyrim and in 1st person they DO matter. For me anyway. I'm not willing to trade graphics for gameplay in this day and age, they can be both good.

pure ignorance.

because you don't think graphics matter that means everyone has to agree with you? some not only think they matter but feel they are extremely important. others simply haven't had the opportunity to enjoy truly stunning graphics in a video game yet.

I'm not worried. Why would I be worried? I'm more concerned with the story, character development, important things like that make the game.

They can both be good, but they can't both be excellent.

I lol'd at this.....
While I do agree that graphics cannot solely make a game, it is sure as h311 icing on the cake! :hubbahubba:
And for the record, 99% of the pc gamers here probably disagree with your statement :) I for one am one of them.
But thankfully opinions are just that! Cheers!

Skyrim looks fine to me. Yes, I'm going to play it on the console. I'm sure the PC version will look just great with the settings turned up and (insert huge string of technobabble) enabled. Still, this is Bethesda, not Crytek. They've never been about bleeding edge graphical stuff.

These threads are never so much legitimate concern as they are people wanting to wave their e-p..er..specs around.

It's not just a matter of hardware, it's also a matter of development focus. And Skyrim is made to run on 6 year old hardware.

Hmmm, well, the book is better than the film. Most of the time because we use our fantasy. Text adventures and text based rpg's can be very good depending on the storytelling. But these days people are spoiled with graphics so good that you wish that that tree or deer really looked that good in RL.

Avadon: The black fortress and Eschalon are examples of current games with 90's graphics. The Ultima series, especially Ultima 7 still look good. At least to me.

okay, apparently my point was a bit too subtle. each person has their own opinions. i'm glad you don't think graphics aren't very important. but telling other people they don't matter when those other people think that they DO matter is just ignorant.

no offense.

Yes it does matter.

What doesn't matter HOW will they make the game good, be it the newest most expensive PC technology or with the 6 year old 360.

Dragon Age: Origins, IMO, had a great story. The graphics were sub-par as compared to Mass Effect which had actually come out before DA:O. DA:O got much praise but not for its graphics. They were pretty bland, boring and outdated. Now, I absolutely loved playing DA:O, but if it had something close to the visuals of ME (both are Bioware games, don't know about the engine though) I really do think it would have added something more to that story. A good story and great gameplay are certainly a must, but as technology moves forward, we can also use stunningly gorgeous vistas, environments and character models to supplement that gameplay which makes the game, as an overall package, something even more beautiful and breathtaking.

I know it's been mentioned on occasion that many people would play Skyrim with Oblivion/Morrowind graphics or even Daggerfall or Arena levels of graphics as long as the gameplay was great, but come on, let's be honest. Would you have paid $150 for a CE or $60 for the non CE of Skyrim, if the graphics looked like the original Castle Wolfenstein?

Sure I agree, graphics don't need to be super-maxed out PC Crysis 2 level, but they should at least constantly improve.
