X-01 for best "new" power armour

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:09 am

So im sure we all have our favourite sets of power armour, and personally my favourite is the old Enclave APA of Fallout 2 fame. It remains my favourite power armour of any fiction, and its gotten a new name for Fallout 4: The X-01. Even though we only saw it briefly at E3, it looks beautiful done up in 3d, even more so than the New Vegas model. Everything about it screams imposing, intimidating, someone you don't want to mess with. Perfect for the most powerful piece of man-portable equipment in Fallout. Ive never really used power armour very much in previous games, but with this beautiful set and the new mechanics, I think ill be having my character step into the suit and grab a minigun from the armoury a lot more often.

Does anyone else have a favourite? Are you a fan of the new T-60, which I personally don't think ill be using? And how do you plan or hope to use the power armour in the new game? I'd love to hear everyones opinions.

I can't wait to see how Bethesda have taken on the controversial "back" of the old APA suit  .

But yeah I agree, I actually really like the design of the X-01, especially the rim that runs at chin height which wasn't one previous designs. It's going to look great as I kill the BoS in it.

I never liked the old model... Felt like it was causing in the forehead of the wearer. Almost like the eyes were too high. Maybe it's just me.

I loved the T45 because of the heavy stormtrooper look.

I would love some old FO:2 power armor! I never really got into the PA in FO:3/NV because it wasn't all that good for sneaking and sniping....and weighted a metric ton. Very interested in seeing the full implementation of the new PA style.

I like Tesla & T-45

Tesla has better helmet but T-45 looks so awesome overall. Hellfire armor was quite dumb. It reminded me of a pig. Rest of BOS armor was meh.

I'm a big fan of that armor design as well, and I think it captured the Enclave perfectly, but I generally tie it with the T-51b as my favorite power armor. I like both of those equally.

No. From an artistic standpoint I think it's lazy - it's just a slightly tweaked T-45d. From an in-universe standpoint I don't think it makes any sense for the (presumably) most advanced pre-war armor to use the more primitive T-45d as a base, instead the more advanced T-51b.

Well its already a retcon in itself that T-60 exists prewar

The T-45d existing was a retcon as well... that the T-60 was retconned into the setting is not the problem. The problem is that the aesthetics of the T-60 are little more than a slightly tweaked version of the T-45d which itself was designed to look like a more primitive version of the T-51b. It would have made far more sense for the T-60 to look like a more advanced T-51b than the design they actually went with.

X-01 remains my favorite, even though I plan on only using the T-60, I want to try it out, seeing how it is a new concept. I hope they didn't retcon a lot of lore in order to include it in the game.

Which I why I am of the persuasion that it might be new power armour from the Brotherhood themselves. It is just minor variations on the T-45 but is stronger than X-01, almost like the two could have been combined by someone with large quantities of both...

I don't know if those pre-war soldiers were wearing T-60 or T-45 (or whether that might have been an oversight) but the design itself doesn't follow the trend, it looks nothing like T-51 which T-45 was designed to be the clunkier, less sleek version of.

Why call it T-60? I guess that's the thorn in this thing but they have renamed Enclave APA as X-01 (even though it was clearly not experimental by the time of Fallout 2 but standard-issue). I think that they just wanted all Power Armour to have a similar naming system. But who knows, X-01 might be pre-war which would scupper this idea.

The soldiers at the beginning are wearing T-60s.

I likely will be using the T-45 or T-60 or mix and match of the two if one of my characters will be using a power armor.

Yep, this is true. It's probably a slight lore retcon that T-60 is the latest armor in line and not T-51B. If people are upset about this then I'd like to ask how they expect the games to move forward if Bethesda is unable to add and alter lore?

Add to the lore, but do not alter it, if they want us to get immersed, then they need to have an internally consistent universe.

The Brotherhood of Steel developed their own power armour in Fallout Tactics, all of the Enclave's work is post-war. Would have made more sense to have T-60 be improved T-45 based on tech they got from the Enclave.

Nobody cares when they add lore as long as it's consistent. It's the unnecessary altering that gets under fans' skins.

We don't know that T-60 was developed after T-51b. Multiple power armors could have been in development at the same time with different designations. Furthermore as I recall T-51b was the last standard issue power armor issued to U.S Troops. So later pre-enclave suits aren't excluded.

Yes because giving us more options for power armor instead of just two suits outside Enclave tech is so horribl

They can give us new power armors, as long as they don't butcher the lore in the process.

Prove the T-60 was standard issue power armor developed after the T-51b otherwise you have no argument that lore was butchered.

Hellfire Armor! It seemed the perfect balance between the sturdiness of the 51b and the sleekness of other models.

I'm not saying that, I'm merely expressing my concerns. We'll find out in a few days.

We only had T-51b when the original Fallout was released. Every new suit that's been introduced since then has made sense and fit consistently with the already established lore (save maybe that worn by the MWBoS in Tactics). I'm not complaining about new power armor. But when we've seen numerous instances of it being introduced without retconning what was established in old games, I don't see the point of suddenly handling one's inclusion so poorly.

Edit
Of course I could be wrong. It could be some prototype that never left the states. But it's interesting that we've never heard of it before now. And even more interesting that it's apparently common enough for soldiers to be wearing it while guarding V111.

Oh right I forgot about that, the soldiers in the pre-war bit of the trailer are using T-60 power armors. Now if it is stronger that the T-51b in-game, then we have a clear case of retconing on our hands.
