For Crytek: EU suffering - why US got it before others?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 6:15 am

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

ok, that's been good strong headline,
But now seriously: Devs, what is the reason for releasing Crysis 2 in US first and let EU suffer watching the error screen? You don't like us or what? Crytek last time I checked was EU company so how the heck doesn't the European players have game days before US do?

Haven't you noticed that we've got 21st century and borders don't exist anymore? Not in the age when we got a thing called "internet"?

And finally the greatest issue: (by mpox)
People who stole it are playing since a few days and people who bought it are looking at an error screen. Mad world :(

Also a side question - I seen someone from EU writing on forum that he got an error message with date 24th - for me it popups "This product will be available after 2011-03-25" - so does it mean that I will be able to play on Saturday, 26th?!

Gooodd.... this turns into nightmare >_> Each passing hour makes me more certain I regret buying the game.

Anyway, Crytek and EA chiefs - Read this: No Oceans: Call For Worldwide Release Dates.

Most of the time US folks get games before Eu population, thats just the way it is... Get used to it. If you regret buying something, because it gets here a few days late, thats your problem... Do something else in the meantime, like get out, get some sun on your skin, etc...

Its been like this for many a moons.
North America almost always gets games before UK.
Shogun2 though UK got it a day before North Americans, and ohhh boy were there alot of angry north american kids screaming at the top of there lungs "OMG WTF!! SHOGUN2 IS OUT FOR UK BUT NOT TILL 2MORROW FOR US? THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!!".

Just the way it is bud, its not Crytek's fault.

Not even Germany ( where Crytek actually is from ) gets it the same day that north america gets it. What a bad , bad world it is :D

Nah just kidding. It's always been like that. Don't ask me why but.. yeah ;)

Do not worry of my skin, lol. It got enough sun already, now it demands some polarized light from LCD while playing Crysis 2!!!! ;)
And yea - I'm aware it's been like that in many cases (certainly not always), but it doesn't change the fact that it's plain stupid & idiotic idea -> look at article I linked to at the bottom of the post.

Just the way it is bud, its not Crytek's fault.
Ksssyyttt... we're trying to fix things here!

I could be wrong but i think the only reason EU doesn't get games until a few days after the US is just simply because thats the way the shops want it. American release dates are always tuesday and EU are nearly always fridays unless its a massive release and we get a tuesday release too. I don't think there's any real reasons behind it, im just glad its only 3 days difference now instead of the few month delay we used to have a generation or so ago.

JESUS CHRIST. Enough with the moaning. Is it so hard to wait a few days?

The answer is this - in the UK, games are traditionally released on Fridays. That's when all the stores update their stocks and shelves and get their deliveries in time for. You can't bypass this as otherwise you'd need to do a special midweek delivery which would cost more and annoy retailers, and provoke other publishers to do the same to get on the shelves before the competition on Friday, which would create chaos. Retailers like a single orderly Friday release, so they get it.

If it came out earlier in another EU county, then people would import, ths taking sales away fom UK retailers in favour of foriegn ones and websites, who would then react by burying the game and not giving shelf space to EA titles in revenge. EA wants a good relationship with all vendors, so has to keep them sweet, which means synchronising the release so nobody has a sales advantage. If you got it early, then you have to wait on an error screen because, again, otherwise everyone would get it from websites early and the retailers would get annoyed.

The only decision (because the US does Tuesday releases) is do we do a US or an EU release first? Generally the US release comes first simply because the US audience cry and bich and moan more if they have to wait 24 hours longer for a game than we do as they think they're special, so they normally come first, although the level of childishness people have displayed here makes me question if that's still the case.

Crytek is, but EA is not European.

they can't play it either

I'm a little bit confused by the error message and the launch countdown on gamesas.com. Can we get on at exactly 24th, so in 2 hours? Or is it noon of 25th?

Stevolutionary - if what you tell would be true I'd be all fine with it, but guess what? I'm looking at my "supportingly-hit-the-stores-on-Friday" copy of Crysis 2 limited edition and I can't play game cause some EA manager decided so. That's just plain stupid. Stores get updates on Monday or Wednesday and it's always been like that here, so for me some other random country "retail update" isn't any reason for waiting till Friday...

Besides that - Who cares when game hit the Media Markt? Did they ever heard about something called Digital Distribution? Meaning: Get game in 30 minutes no matter the place on Earth????? People who bought the game this way in EU also wait, which is even more ridiculous.

m1ze - check what I asked:

Also curious about this.... by saying 'avaible after the 24th....' does that mean being able to play on the 25th or during the 24th? We'll find out in an hour or two ;) Not getting my hopes up though, they'll probably unlock the game during US times aswell which means later times for us.

SkajPL - It's all about fairness.

You may have recieved your limited edition early, but you can't play it until everyone else in the EU can. Otherwise, why would anyone in the UK buy it from a store? They'd import it from Poland to get it early and the UK retailers would lose out, and as a result they'd punish EA by not stocking their games, or at least not giving them much shelf space. Digital distribution may be the future, but as of now the vast majority of profits come from stores and they have to keep them happy.

EA wants to keep everyone sweet and give no retailers an advantage, so they stick to Fridays for everyone. The UK is the largest EU games market, so the distributors tend to follow their practices. US early release isn't an issue as being region locked you can't import.

It is not a big deal in this case. The multiplayer is messed up so bad that it should not matter. It does not keep your pre-order stuff at this point and you lose your level 5.

As for the storyline. There is a website already online that has been there a while with a full video walkthrough. So if you can't wait, watch that.

I understand what you are saying though and I do feel for you.

According to the Steam store the game unlocks in my region in roughly two hours.

I'm going to stay up and read on other forums, and if this is true then I'm going to hop on the Steam version and get my money back from the EA store. I don't really care what excuses EA might be pulling out of their arses. This is the year 2011 - The year where Digital Distribution is destined to overtake the retail outlet - It's time for EA to accept that and plan accordingly.

Guys you need to learn how to use a VPN. I've been playing C2 since yesterday when Steam re-loaded but live somewhere outside of the US.

Still this sort of thing with release dates just encourages this type of illegal action, plus it encourages illegal downloads. Failtek yet again me thinks.

People in USA are lil dumber than in EU so this way they have more time to adapt... game's moto was adapt or die [wait... that was C1's moto... nostalgia :( ]

The only healthy sun is the one in Crysis 2.

There is absolutely no reason for different release dates. All the countries already had their copies of C2 ready.

It might be OK for a retail version but NOT if I make a PREORDER.

Well, that's part of the problem - half of Internet is filled with spoilers, while I watch the stupid error message... outrageous.

Lovely! Thanks, that's really very helpful! :D

Pity that I won't be able to play till tomorrow afternoon, but good to know that at least I won't have to wait till after 25th as the EA error message says. So it makes me feel a little bit better :)
