For frequent gamers here, do you buy gaming mice?

Post » Wed Jul 16, 2014 11:45 am

I.e mice that have 4 side buttons in addition to the normal left-middle-right buttons.

Gaming mice are all pretty expensive, i don't really feel like buying a mouse for 120 bucks. But then again the cheap mice i've been buying (10-15 bucks) keep going bust in a few months. I ended up nicking a hp mouse from somewhere, heh heh. It worked pretty well. Also having side buttons would work well in some games (dota).

I have a http://www.amazon.com/Razer-DeathAdder-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00AAS888S/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1405435765&sr=1-1&keywords=razer+deathadder and have used it for about 6 months now. It has been reliable so far with no problems whatsoever. The only side buttons are a forward and back button. It is really light weight and its dpi can get up to 6400 which is insane and I have no idea how anyone uses that, the highest I can reliably go is 4000. If you do want one with buttons on the side the http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-2014-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1405435307&sr=1-1&keywords=razer+naga seems affordable compared to $120.

I have a Logitech G5, and I've been using it for at least 6 or 7 years now. It cost me around $50 or $60 when I bought it, so it has been well worth the money. The right mouse click has felt a little weird for awhile now, but it still works, so it's fine.

Gaming Mice offer two things regular mice don't, lots of buttons (and programmability) and weight or heft. Both of these help with gaming. The weight and heft helps with fine control, and the buttons, well, you get more buttons and less keyboard mashing.

Now, to cheap mice, yes a $20 mouse is not going to last long under any conditions, they are made to be thrown away after a year. However you don't need to spend more than $100 on a mouse either. This is what I use

http://www.amazon.com/Razer-DeathAdder-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00AAS888S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1405435585&sr=1-1&keywords=razer

I got it bundled with a keyboard that lights up the keys (so nice for gaming in a dark room) for about $80 on sale. Here are other ones that mostly add more buttons

http://www.amazon.com/Razer-DeathAdder-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00AAS888S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1405435585&sr=1-1&keywords=razer

Logitech makes a nice mouse too, I just don't like their software.

However, if your gaming, do not get a wireless mouse. Get a wired one, you will be so much happier.

Yeah. I used a Deathadder until recently. Now I have a Logitech G500s, and it is pretty amazing.

I bought my G500, 7, maybe 8 years ago, and it's still going strong.

If you are buying cheap mice every few months, it will add up making the purchase of a gaming mouse seem like the way to go.

The thought of going back to a regular mouse....well.....it just wont happen! That should say it all. I like my extra buttons!

It's funny, because I don't even use the extra buttons on my mouse for gaming. I suppose it kind of defeats the point of getting a gaming mouse, but I never got accustomed to using them :P.

Oh, I've had the problem for years now, and it comes and goes. It's annoying, but I can't argue with the mouse's longevity.

That is what I like my particular Razer, it does not have a ton of buttons, just a few extra ones. It does not confuse me.

This thread also makes me curious about what kind of mouse pads people use. Back when I got my G5 I also picked up an Icemat (glass mousepad). It was probably one of the more useless $25 I've ever spend on my PC setup, but I still use it and I like it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to use the mouse feet that the pad came with, as it elevated the mouse too much and made the distance between the pad and the laser too great. It was a shame, because the feet that the pad came with made the mouse slide across the pad like butter.

I used a Razer Death Adder for about 2 years. Worked great, still does, but I wanted a new mouse, so I moved my deathadder to work and got a Roccat Kova+, cus i can change its LED color. XD

I'm Left-Handed - gaming mice tend to be ergenomcially designed to fit the right hand, so I tend to only buy very basic ones. Also, since I'm not one to care about the lag-time too much, I'm fairly casual, and games I do play regularly are usually single-player (not a lot of my friends are gamers), I don't need to many bells-and-whistles. I'm a technophile, but I'm a miser first. I'm currently using a Roccat Pyro - which cost around £30.00 - or $50.00 in your money. It's still working 2 years after I bought it.

Side-swipe: Does anyone know of any reasonably priced Gaming Mice for a Southpaw? I'm not a competative gamer, and typically play solo-games, so it's really an aesthetic choice.

I love it. I remapped the weapons switch buttons to my 3 thumb buttons. Outside of gaming I have copy/paste mapped to my middle mouse buttons. (Left is copy and right is paste.) Middle thumb button closes programs.

My desk is my mouse pad, though I do have a Steeleseries mouse pad, I find my desk works better. I don't run off the edge of my desk as I do my mouse pad, and my desk doesn't move, unlike my mouse pad. Laser mice for the win!

I'm a lefty as well, but using a mouse is one of many things that I do with my right hand. It was very helpful to learn early in life that it's better to learn to use your non-dominant hand for applications that are more commonly right-handed so that you aren't always limited in your selection.

I never seem to have that problem. I'm sure it's helpful that my mouse pad is so big and elevated enough where I can feel the edges of it with the sides of my hand and my arm.

"Forbidden, You do not have permission to access this document."

That's all I get when I click that link.

I find the pad itself slides. It's not a big pad.

I don't buy gaming mice myself.. but when my office had to lay me off a few months back (the federal government cut our budget), all my co-workers pitched in and bought me a fairly decent gaming mouse as a parting gift..

Some Razers have left-handed versions.

I have Logitech G600. It's an overkill for most games I play, but it's very comfortable and I'm completely satisfied with the purchase. If you don't play MMOs, I'd suggest something simpler. Razer DeathAdder or Naga Hex are nice.

I swear by my Razer Mamba. Bought it four years ago and I will cry when something happens to it. Most mice have a much higher arch forcing your hand into more of a ball-shape whereas the Mamba is sleek and flatter while still having a natural curve. So comfy for my hand.
