For the Brotherhood

Post » Sat Sep 12, 2009 5:15 am

Defender Layne would simply yawn as he zero'd in on the Brotherhood fools charging toward the bridge, aiming for the weakest spots on the armor and firing precise bursts. He'd reach up and calmly turn off his radio as he always had during a fight. Layne had been in enough battles to know what the Protectors expected of him, and he didn't need to be told what he already knew.

Three initiates down before Layne was forced to reload, making each shot count against power-armored opponents. Finding the amount of combat on the bridge dissatisfying, he'd begin advancing whilst still perforating Brothers as he went, slowly advancing after each kill. "Screw this. There's no glory in holding down a heavily fortified position. Save that for the wannabe's.", he said after reaching a sidewalk, directly next to a hill leading up to the main battleground.

Layne would remove a grenade from his waist, throwing it while keeping most of his body behind the wall. After the initial blast, a few moans could be heard. Layne smirked.

He'd peek around the corner and see two initiates bleeding profusely from several shrapnel wounds. "Weaklings. I'll let you bleed out rather then spare you the agony of a slow death.", he'd say before continuing up the hill. Finally reaching a point where there were more Brothers then Outcasts, Layne would reach up and flick his radio on again.

"Defender Layne Deckard requesting cover-fire from available snipers. I'm pushing through to the enemies main attack force. I repeat, I request cover-fire from all available sniper units. Double-time goddammit!"

All of a sudden two more initiates would sneak up from behind another corner, apparently trying to flank the experienced soldier. Layne would remain still with his back turned for a moment, allowing them to get closer for they're kill. All of sudden he'd turn, and drop down, firing two well-placed bursts into each of they're helmets, downing them instantly.

"Alright Ridge, I want you to take out the two enemy snipers positioned on the two adjacent buildings guarding main street. As it stands, if I advanced they're rifles would turn me into a tin-can full of gore. Also, intel said at least two platoons are heading in my direction. When they get here, I'm expecting you to take out the guys with heavy firepower. I can handle the rest."

Layne would then wait for confirmation of the kills impatiently, removing his helmet and tossing it aside. Hopefully this sniper was as good as he'd hoped, otherwise Layne would be walking into a firing squad.

* Ridgemond gets into position* Lets see their colors when I am finished with them. * Ridgemont gets a gattling laser armed troop onto a small bridge intersecting to office buildings* Get me a fix on those 2 snipers. * An initiate with a old ham radio set links to 2 troops stationed on the rooftops of the buildings* Initiate, confirm firing orders now. * The second the initiate orders the fire orders, the thuds of heavy metal against cement echo across the old road* Layne, your snipers are down, I got my heavy weapons man ready on your order to mow and brighten up the BOS with his gun. Just give me the sig and your as good as done. Just get me some vodka after this.

"Hell no Defender, I'm not sending you or anyone into a Brotherhood camp, without leadership or backup, you'll get youself killed, and I won't allow that, you need to rest.

Alright men, get some food and some rest, and meet me back out here, we will be leaving as soon as possible, I will debreif you on the way to our assigned location.

"Layne, Defender Jonathan here ill provide you with support." he quickly ran towards a better position and shot a few initiates sneaking up on Layne. "Layne there about twenty guys heading you way half of them appear to be knights." Jonathan shot more rounds into the mass of soldiers. "two knights down. Wait i have to reload." Jonathan reloaded as fast as he could the BoS soldiers were getting closer. He killed three more before they spotted him. Three laser rounds whizzed past his head so he dove into a pile of rocks to take cover. He aimed and ire three more shots all connecting to the knights head, his body went limp. "4 knights and one initiate down they're already on you and it looks like they're the last ones"

"Alright Ridge, these are the last remnants of the invading forces. Get me mortar fire on coordinates 75 vertical, 135 horizontal. You tell the artillerymen to get it right on the money, 'cause I'm danger-close to the blast zone.", he'd say before crouching down behind a concrete barrier, covering his ears and waiting for the shock waves.

"God damit men, stay here! theres no need to run off, its just a bunch of idiot stragelleres, they will run off, let the recruits deal with them, don't waste your time."

Daniel noticed his friend, Hnery casdin walking out from inside the fort to greet him

"Well, I see your keeping your men in line." Casdin said.

"Hey, shut up, at least i wasn't hiding inside my little safe house while the rest of as were fighting."

"You better watch you your talking to, i still have more authority than you, PROTECTOR, and plus, everyone likes me better."

"Whatever, Casdin, Haha, anyway, its nice too see you."

"Yea, you too, are you ready for your next assignment? I have the envelope right here."

"Yea thanks, I will deploy as soon as possible, i just want to give my men a rest before we ship out."

OOC: Alright guys I'm out for the night, Just make sure your characters get something to eat and stuff, and then meet outside in front of the vertibird, its on the roof.

"Hey Daniel got our new assignment yet." Jonathan said through his helmet radio. "Oh and how many of our men are going." Jonathan grinned he hoped they would take him and this would be a chance to prove himself to Daniel.

Chase continued his letter as more gunfire erupted, but he ignored it for the most part, except for when someone had shot the ground near him and gotten dirt all over his paper. At that point, he got up and shouted a long sting of obscenities at the Brotherhood initiate who had done it, which rewarded him with a hail of bullets. Eventually he just sat back down and continued to write, until he heard Johnathan's voice over his helmet. He put it back on for a moment to catch what he said.

"As long as it doesn't involve people throwing grenades at me, I'm up for anything. I have a bad record with grenades. And you remember that thing about the drink, John. I'm going to hold you to that."

OOC: ((For future reference, I was AFK when the initial battle took place so my posts on that subject are during that time. This post is in present time, however.))

"Recruit, give me a SITREP right [censored] now!", Layne would bark at the first recruit he saw after reaching Fort Independence. "Sir! The Brotherhood cowards were slaughtered sir, some of them retreated."

Layne would smirk after hearing this. "Figures. The Sentinels would rather pull their men back then let them die for their failure in this battle. Ah, the human condition. Emotion.", he'd say to no one in particular, mostly himself, before heading inside the fort. He'd press the release switches on both sides of his waist simultaneously, causing his armor to break apart at the seems, allowing Layne to climb out of it and stretch his now stiffened arms and lands.

He'd read a plaque on the wall dedicated to the Outcasts newest "Protecter", Chase. "The hell is this? I kill a bunch of Brothers and don't recieve so much as a medal, but this guy get's a promotion?!", he'd yell louder then he probably intended to. He'd then punch the plaque several times, causing it to crack in several places and fall down. After tending to the many wounds on his knuckles, he'd head to the mess hall and and grab a bottle of booze without checking the brand.

At this point he didn't care, he just wanted something that'd knock him off his ass. He'd sit down at a table of recruits and brush each of they're trays off the table, then commanding them to eat they're meals off the floor. "Get to it boys. This will prepare you for long op's when your forced to live off MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) for weeks, or even months at a time. You'll thank me later.", he'd say while laughing and slamming down vodka.

Chase entered Fort Independence after a few more minutes of checking things over. He immediately went to the armory to get replacement ammo and a new grenade, as well as get his armor repaired. Afterwards, he dropped his letter off to be delivered, which was promptly thrown away, as was usual. The man he gave it to always gave him a weird look, but Chase didn't particularly mind. Everyone has their quirks, after all. Mine just happens to be mailing letters to a dead brother.

Eventually he came across the broken plaque declaring him a Protector. He frowned, but he thought he knew who had pulled the stunt. He walked into the mess to get him something to eat and found the culprit abusing some of the recruits. Chase walked up to where he was sitting and slammed his hands down on the table.

"That's enough. [censored] like this and your meltdown with the plaque are the precise reason why you'll never go up in rank. Deep down you're still that whining little initiate that wants to prove himself so badly to everyone. Only now instead of actually trying to be useful and sociable, you're just a snot nosed punk that thinks he's superior to everyone. Well let me tell you something, former initiate Layne Deckard, you need to get some respect and get yourself in line, or I'll beat some into you."

Chase then turned around and got his meal, then sat down across the room. He ran one hand through his hair and took his glasses off, then sighed with exhaustion. Things can never be simple, can they?

Layne would grasp his bottle of booze hard enough to make his fingers turn white, imagining himself smashing it over the head of one of his oldest enemies and rivals, Chase Comara. It seemed no matter what Layne achieved, this guy was always a few steps ahead. Even when he'd made it to the rank of Knight, Chase defected to the Outcasts before him. He'd relax his grip on the bottle however, and simply chug the remainder. "Aye, aye sir.", he'd say in a sarcastic and hateful tone.

"Grats on the promotion, too. I'm sure you had to give a lot of sixual favors to earn that one, eh?" Layne would then get up and head toward the liquor storage, stepping in some unlucky recruits instamash in the process. He'd hurl the bottle at a nearby wall before grabbing a new one and starting in on it.

OOC: No school until 10:30 for me

IC: Jonathan was one of the few outcasts that almost never removed their armor. He had grown too attached to it after the years and years of wearing it and the only thing he removed was the helmet. He didn't even take it off to sleep. The only time he took it off was when he had to bathe.

Jonathan then walked into the the base and the first thing he noticed was Chase's plaque broken "Why does Layne have to be such a [censored]," he thought. He continued walking until he reached his bunk.

By then most of the other Outcasts were in the mess hall but Jonathan would rather clean his weapons. He calibrated his rifle to shoot more accurately due to the fact that during the battle the lasers went a bit to the left. "Sure its a little, hell its not even an inch but in battle it'll make a difference the farther the target is."

After a few minutes of calibrating his stomach was growling and by now he was probably the only soldier not eating. As he walked into the mess hall he noticed Chase and Layne fighting but he was tired so he'd rather sit in the corner by himself. He got some instant mash and squirrel bits and then he sat down quietly to eat.

Enjoy!!!! And CHEERS!!!! * Grabs bottle and rises up to cheer*

Jonathan watched as Ridgemond passed out vodka to everyone "Guess Chase wouldn't be needing me to buy him a drink, shame cause I was just about to ask him what kind he wanted." Jonathan quickly gulped his shot and went up to Ridgemond. "Hey Ridge where'd you get all this vodka."

Jonathan then looked around most of the people were laughing and cheering but for some reason he didn't feel like doing anything, he was tired but he wasn't sleepy. He noticed that Dan was nowhere in sight. "Hey guys wheres Dan."

Daniel sat by the radio, on the roof, wanting to get a breeze in his hair, he felt refreshed, Daniel called on his radiom onto a channel that he knew the brotherhood used, "This is Protector Daniel Thompson, of the Outcasts, i would like clearance to speak with Elder Lyons."

"Ah yes Protector nice to hear from you again, I have called him down, nevermind hear he is now." A paladin answered.

"Hello Daniel, it has been a while, hasn't it. How have you been?"

"Well Elder, but that is not why i radioed and you know that."

"Yes, I thought so. By the way, That was a mighty defense your men put up, I thought that you hated wastelanders?"

"It wasn't my idea, Lyons, that was all Casdin."

"Yes he was always a smart young man, just as yourself, It seems it was only yesterday we were fighting along side each other out west."

"It does seem like yesterday, but I can't be bothered with the past, I have a war to win."

Daniel hung up the radio, even though he never got to say what he wanted the Elder had a way with words and seemed to trick the mind, "No matter, I will see him before this war is over."

Daniel waited for his squad to join him up on the roof so they may leave, he was getting tired of waiting.

"He's on the roof," said a rookie. On the way Jonathan made a quick stop at the armory to pick up more ammo. He saw that the armory master was replaced with a rookie. "Give me a few micro-fusion cells rook." "Yes Sir!"

Jonathan quickly climbed the stairs. "Defender Jonathan Black here any news on our new assignment sir oh and by the way how many of our guys are going." Daniel was sitting next to a radio, He looked pissed as if someone pissed him off. "Sir Whats wrong, you ok."

"Yes Defender I am fine, I just had some personal business to attend to, as for our mission we are assaulting a BoS stronghold in downtown DC, the Mall to be exact, any questions?" Daniel repeated this over the squad radio, "Everyone got it? I don't want to repeat myself."

"Your coming with us too right sir. I'd hate to see you miss some action." Jonathan looked at Daniel, His expression showed years of experience not many soldiers here could say that about themselves.

The new protector Chase Comara walked back to the armory after finishing his food. He picked up his weapons and ammo, and got his new power armor. Well, it wasn't precisely new, but it didn't have any holes in it, so Chase was glad for that. Just as he got back in his suit and put his helmet back on, he caught their mission from Protector Thompson.

"Damn it! I can't believe I have to go back to that hell hole. Lady luck needs to decide on good or bad, not keep tossing me around like this."

Chase climbed up to the roof after several minutes and waited patiently there for the rest of the squad to assemble, not voicing any more of his complaints. After all, it wouldn't be proper for a newly promoted Protector to gripe about his first mission. At least not in front of the Defenders. Gripes go up, not down, as they say.

"Heard, understood, acknowledged sir. I'm ready to kill some Brothers immediately. I have one question though, sir. Are we allowed to take prisoners for...interrogation purposes? It could lead to valuable intel on some of the higher-ups of the Brotherhood.", Layne wasn't really expecting Protecter Daniel to go with his idea. Protectors had rarely ever listened to advice, and they certainly didn't like good ideas they didn't think up themselves. Never hurt to try, though.

Layne would head toward the exit, still polishing off the bottle of fancy vodka Ridge had given him. He'd drank three whole bottles of fairly strong booze in the last few hours, but he didn't feel drunk. Maybe a little buzzed, but that often provided for more interesting fights. He'd look at the plaque he'd smashed earlier then look at his knuckles, smirking. "Next time, I do that to his face."
