post your thoughts on annoying things from oblivion, and why they shouldn't be in skyrim

Nothing annoyed me in oblivion.

but stuff i'd liked changed that haven't already been touched upon as taken out or put in would be leveled armor and the way the guilds would work.

Apart from the level scaling, the speechcraft game, the bizarre parade of uglies, and Maglir's descendants ( he kept going on about his family ), I'm happy with whatever they carry over.

My only real issues with Oblivion are the bugs, other aspects of the game could be better. But I'd rather have a nearly bug-free game than some short comings.

The Speechcraft mini-game, extreme level scaling. for the most part these were the only things that annoyed me, although I would hope that many of the more annoying enemies (Will-o-Wisps, Damage reflecting Clannfears that stagger-lock you) would not be returning simply for the sake of players' sanity. Actually, I really hope damage-sponging enemies (and player characters!) don't make a comeback. Don't get me wrong, certain enemies definitely need to be able to tank a few hits, but melee combat in Oblivion took way too long. I'd much rather have a system where everybody is taken down after a few well-placed shots.

Uuuh.. where do I begin...

Generic world: I would hate to see them make the world as boring as it was in OB

TErrible level scaling: This completely ruined any sense of progression in the game

Scaled uinques: Worst idea ever, uniques are supposed to have some kind of identity to them, scaling them makes them pointless.

Too much random generated stuff: No hand placed items, world bosses or anything interesting anywhere leads to a boring world overall.

mixed voiceacting: One thing is to only have painfully few voice actors, but please try to have an NPC's voice not change several times during a conversation.

Taking away gear slots: Another completely fun breaker, reducing customization is never fun, specially not when it comes to gear.

Only one summon at a time: How am I supposed to play a necromancer when I can only have one minion at any one time? THis was a very poor decision

For me it's got to be object manipulation, object placement and collision detection. Once time, a valuable mace mysteriously dropped off a window ledge and fell though the scenery as I entered my home never to be seen again. Then there's the objects that fly off at 100mph after been accidentally nudged.

I hope the above is much better this time around.

No, I just... hadn't contemplated the idea. The possibility... oh, it's horrible.

You're mad.

Why?

There was plenty of randomly generated stuff in Oblivion, or repetitive stuff. It doesn't seem unreasonable not to like that.

You might as well be calling Bethesda mad, since they themselves have addressed this as an issue and said that nothing will be random this time around.

Most of my ideas have already been posted here. The only thing that hasn't been mentioned so far it the actuall meshes of objects: Every object had a box about the size of half of a book around it, making items float when you placed them. I know it was done to save time when designed objects, but it was a total immersion killer for me.

I don't know what you're talking about. Pretty much everything collided with the edges of the objects. If it had a collision detection around it in the size of a book, you wouldn't be able to place a fork next to a plate. Things did sometimes do odd things like float, but that is a problem with the physics system, not the actual borders for collision detection.

Why just Oblivion? Why not Morrowind, too? Doesn't Oblivion get put down enough? Do we really need a whole thread about it?

No, everyone loves to put down Oblivion. They can't get enough. They need a new forum section for "What was wrong with Oblivion".

What annoyed me the most in Oblivion was that you couldn't go from one town to another by the main imperial roads (that were supposed to be well-maintained) without fighting something every 5 meters. On higher levels you encountered minotaur lords with every step, which was very unpleasant, especially for NPCs that were traveling (and - if you cared, and I did - then you had to save them). And i remember encountering a dreugh somewhere between Bravil and Leyawiin, and no matter how many times I've killed him, he reappeared over and over again in the exactly same spot. That was driving me crazy.

But, thankfully, It's been confirmed it won't be a problem in Skyrim.

People LOVE to hate Oblivion. I suppose you look cooler if you do so, or something. It's like that of "Every past time was better", and I'm afraid it won't change.

Oblivion had some flaws, right, all of us know about it. But so did Morrowind or Daggerfall, and nobody talks about it. Of course, we can talk about problems that we don't want to see repeated, but... why only from Oblivion? I don't know...

Horses.

The default level scaling.

And the really short list of "generic NPC" voice actors.

The scaling

The world having only 2 environments

Magic being laughable

Item damage

Having only 1 voice actor for each race

very few sets of armor per level

Oblivion not really full of monsters, guards could have taken care of it

Lack of stealth system

Elven armor lookling like a v neck and duck feet

Weapons having no magic visual effects

Poison being the same as long lasting curses

Combat they have already done a lot to fix so

Quests placing the goal so far away that you basically have to fast travel, because if you ran there there wasn't anything interesting to see along the way

Lack of birds

Arrows lacking damage but again they said they fixed it

Light spell having one color but again magic in general was laughable

other than the stuff said and the stuff i know they are going to fix...

how different races were different things (imperial guards, khajit bandits, high elf mages etc)

the way soul gems were done

lockpick system

quests with no freedom

SITHIS SITHIS SITHIS crap from the dark brotherhood- infact the entire way the dark brotherhood was done was terrible

^ actually guilds were pretty [censored] aswell. they were all black and white. with even the thieves guild being noble . i want morrowinds moral grey back

how racist npcs were, it wasnt enough

i would like them to find a cure for the there are only so many voices in the world syndrome that has plagued the series thus far(sounds like theyr having more actors involved).
i also want the scaling to be fixed (also sounds like it will be done).
i also want them to tone down the rate that magicka regenerates.
and i want them to make bosmer just a little bit more serious at least a few .
in addition i want guilds to be just a bit more involving and have slightly better stories to them as they where on to something when they made the dark brotherhood a story of betrayal and all tha.t
and i dont want the thieves guilds little catchphrase to be shadow hide you it sounded just plain stupid not to mention it sounded like they where calling you ugly.
last but not least fix the damn faces if the first non essential npc i bump into has a creepy permanent smile that would make even the joker stare in awe i swear that persons gonna become scamp chow.
