For the love of god tone down the Barnet

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 3:41 pm

We were promissed that there would be no ohk expect for headshots on light, this rifle completly demolishs that statement.. with engineer buff this rifle one shoots even mediums (with the pip perk) and thats without even getting headshot.

The damage needs to be toned down, or it should be impossible to buff..

Its a miracle that so few people have started taking advantage of it yet.

But after having a few matchs today where 3 + enemy team players were using the rifle, Its quite easy to see what the coming trend will be, with no travel speed aswell Its not exactly hard to hit a player, even less so when you don't need to aim for head.

The prison map in particular becomes less then enjoyable as it turns into all out sniper/camper war.

Hell as it is the rifle is just as effective as the Call of duty snipers, even more so since its quite easy to no-scope with it.

i think it needs to be buffed to one shot except for large without buffs and 1 shot large with buffs it gives you very low ammo its bolt action so if you miss your basicly screwed bolt action rifles were always meant to one shot in video games if they dont alot of people wont buy the game cuz sniping has a huge fan base with video gamers, also the drognov needs to be 2 shot

With as fast paced as this game is, anybody that pulls of a sniper shot deserves a ohk. Medium and lights move the fastest and if you can't get out of his sights then the person deserves to be shot. I run as a light and have only been shot once with the Barnet. If you close the distance the guy is screwed point blank and you win every time.

light5out, even in Brink sniping isn't terribly difficult. I use a Drognav and making headshots and 2hks isn't tough at all, and I've only got the Greeneye scope on (equivalent of COGA). Splash Damage promised no ohk weapons, and it's certainly not fun to be camped in spawn because half the enemy team are Engis with the extra buff using Barnet. I agree that it should be toned down to always be a 2hk, and I would also contend that the Drognav should be a 3hk because I feel dirty using it, but I want a weapon that isn't spray and can fire over reasonable distance.

2HKs are one thing, but getting headshots in this game is a pain. For the security tower (prison) map the Resistance needs them to shut down those MGs (was playing a game with a buddy and we each grabbed an MG, obliterated the enemy team for 5 straight minutes at the gate before someone decided to grab a Barnet and take us down). I'm a pretty decent sniper in Halo and COD and this... definitely harder. Also, if you're worried about getting sniped, that ability that let's you know when you're in someone's sights is key. As soon as you get that warning just slide into cover.

It's funny because I'm an absolutely rubbish shot in CoD and Halo but I can snipe in Brink like nobody's business. Might have a lot to do with only playing CoD and Halo on my 360 :\ Anyhow, I'm horrible and getting headshots isn't tough for me, 65-70% of my shots that hit home are headshots with my Drognav. I just think ohks should be removed. Snipers are annoying enough when it takes them a second shot, so one shot is kind of fantastically bothersome. I agree the Barnet should be stronger than the Drognav, but not ohk strong.

Oh, if you're playing Brink on the PC then I can understand headshots being easier, headshots are always easier on PCs in my experience.

It's true. It makes me giggle when the tf2 noob snipers think they're better than the other players because they can get headshots, which they think is quite a feat. If even I can snipe in an FPS, and I'm a horrid, wretched shot, then it really is very easy.

The sniper balance issue isnt that simple. The bigger issue is that regardless of it being a headshot or not, it still ruins a players chance for advancing. In security tower 4 or more snipers just destroy resistance in the first section, which brings me to my second point: Snipers get exponentially more dangerous as more players use them, one sniper isnt that bad, but a whole group of them destroys anything. I'm not sure what would be the most viable fix for this, but it seems likely that this will be exploited and a fix will be nessecary.

The most viable fix is maps with more diversity in routes. Snipers lose all power when given only limited alleys when the other team can go over, under of through multiple routes to take them out. As it stands, the current Brink maps are just too linear, usually with only 2 or 3 ways to get from one place to another. New maps can be all the balancing necessary for snipers, without even touching the power of the weapons themselves. Plus, it'll add another tactical layer, though it may well destroy teamwork :\ Always a drawback to everything.

Its a bolt action sniper, deal with it. The real problem is the maps, if there was more than two ways that could pretty much be covered by one person with a sniper it would be less of a problem. The Barnett is slow, really slow. After you take a shot it gives anyone enough time to move out of the way, and its reload is ridiculously slow compared to any other gun. Just because a weapon *can* be a one hit kill doesn't make it over powered, its rate of fire and reload speed make it balanced.

Actually they don't lose all power ethiir, thats just the camper ones ;)

Sitting at corners with it just using iron sight, Is also extremly effective, or even running and gunning.

Hell It can even be used as a shotgun :P

I don't mind It being able to oneshoot on headshots, but the body one hit kos need to go.

And yes I judge this from a pc perspective, which I consider fair as Pc is whats mainly used for competetive gaming. (no offense to console players, I love my consoles as much as the next guy)

Edit: And no, the maps are not the problem.

Its fire rate is slow yes, but not so slow that it warrants one hit body kills, not even close.
I'd be fine with body hit taking 90% of my health, but when it takes my entire health + 3 extra pips in one shoot, that is way over the top.

The reload really isnt that slow.

and Its not just *can* Its a very real fact that it WILL one hit kill light and medium, and it CAN one hit a heavy without the perk pip.

Splash damage made it very clear that they did not want snipers that could ohk like this, specifically because its alot of fun for the ONE guy doing the sniping, while it exactly the opposite for his 8 victims.

Funny thing is, once one person on a server starts using the sniper effectivly people start equipping sniper to counter him, then theyr team equips sniper to counter those people again.. and suddenly theres a all out sniper war going, while the idea sounds intresting,
I can say from experience it is not.

Like one of the above posters stated, the problem becomes worse the more people you actually got sniping, and he couldnt be more correct

If you want your sniper to ohk, well then fine, but lets add in bullet travel time, wind, bullet drop etcetc. I means if you want bolt action rifle to act realisticly and kill in one shoot, why not go all out?

Just flank the team of snipers, its not hard as resistance, there are are least 2 routs i know of on the first obj on the said map u all are complaining of. Try using some tactics b4 u all run to the forums and cry NERF, or just run straight into sniper fire, thats cool too, more kills for me :P

One guy with an smg can cover the one, and the other can be covered by said snipers. It doesn't work.

Oh you know 2 routes for the first objective on the map, yeah thats very helpful.. Only one problem.. security tower has more then one objective.

First Objective can also get locked more or less completly with 3 snipers, especially if those snipers are engineers who can lock of said routes with mines etc.

Oh and if you actually do manage to flank them on the first objective, well then you have to run across a big open area to get to the stairs, and then you have to walk up the bottleneck stairs.

As for your little, try using some tactics, If your idea of tactics is "well just flank them, somehow, I don't know how, just do it" then perhaps you are not one to give advice about tactics in the first place.

The real problem is the third and fourth objectives, but most of all the sheer amount of snipers.. having 1 sniper usually does not screw up the gameplay to much, but once you start getting 2, 3 or hell even 4 It becomes a major problem.
And yes these rifle are effective at close range aswell.

I am guilty of using the barnett with a double weapon buff, and yes it deserves to be slightly nerfed. I dont think I should be getting OHKs on mediums with full health by shooting them in the body, perhaps with a headshot, but still it seems to strong. ESPECIALLY after you figure out the glitch that makes the guns recoil non-existent.

umm not to be trying to start anything but have you ever played the older tom clancy games..they were all one shot kills with any gun..because as someone thats been shot before let me tell you i dont care where you get hit..you are going down..maybe not for good but i have been shot in the wrist and in the leg and both times i hit the ground instantly...at anyrate the one shot kills have been around a long time before CoD was even concieved..i think that it adds to the realisim of the game ..Barnet is supposed to be a Brinks version of Barret which is a .50 cal round which can lierally cut a person in half with one shot..so yeah im pretty sure they are not goin to fix this..nor should they

You do realize that brink is not trying to be realistic in any way right? Im very confident that the barnett will be in someway altered over the course of this game, it is just to strong for multiplayer.

1: I know its been around longer then cod, but It wasnt the standard before cod, you said always in otherwords the standard.
2: This game is not realistic, nor does it try to be realistic, I don't care if you been shoot in the toe and lost your finger, when the game is not based on realism your real life "army experience" is quite irrelevant.

Immortalprime.. Tough as nails, winning once on every campaign map on mp or hard.. hardly a feat. and also quite irrelevant to the discussion.
Heres one for you, If you can't handle killing without relying on one shoot kills, then perhaps you should play cod ? ;)

If you are gonna argue that its fair as it is, at least bring up better points then realism, or other games.

Medium body type is 140 base. The rifle does 125 unbuffed with a bodyshot. Highest I have seen estimated for the lvl 2 engy buff is 33% bumping it up to 166.25, but the first health buff is +30 putting a medium body type at 170. Everyone should have the free health boost, even if you don't have it a buff from any other source puts you out of one-shot bodyshot range.
