For the love of the Mad God, make children perishable!

Post » Sat May 15, 2010 1:34 am

If children are to be included in this game, they should absolutely be killable or at the very least vulnerable to being knocked unconscious in the same way as vital NPCs in Oblivion. Preferably the former.

If loads of little immortals are running around it will have a negative effect on immersion. Please. This kind of game should allow you to do whatever you want. If you're going to yield to some silly taboo, just don't put kids in the game at all.

Anyone else agree?

I would rather be able to purchase Skyrim in my country.

Like the old saying goes. Mod it if you want it.

Explain why this thread should be locked? It's a perfectly valid discussion.

Discussing child killing is against the forum rules, if you read them you would know.

From the pinned forum rules thread:

Likewise, discussion of killing children is not permitted as it is classed as mature content, neither is it a feature of Bethesda Softworks games.

Wow. That is ridiculous. It's a perfectly valid issue that is inevitably going to come up in any game that includes children. This is the year 2011, isn't it? Not 1930?

Man, what are you on? It's even more of a sensitive issue nowadays than it was back then.

You don't kill men or orcs or elves either. Yet people would kick up a fuss if none of those were killable in-game.

As for "mature content" ... Elder Scrolls games all involve killing things. How is discussing killing one thing more mature or innappropriate than discussing killing another.

People need to learn to be less sensitive. It's just a game, same as any other. In an age where games that let you go on killing sprees are perfectly acceptable, I find it amazing that the issue over killing in-game children remains.

At the end of the day, IT'S A GAME. They're not real children. They're images.

Even killing advlts in computer games is a sensitive topic (at least outside the US). I can understand that a developer doesn't want his game to be known as 'the game where you can kill children'. It doesn't matter whether the player is not forced to kill children or whether it's a crime in the game to kill them. Some people would go crazy about it and would try to make Skyrim look like a game for bloodthirsty perverts. And many other people would believe them without even looking at the game. While I personally wouldn't mind killable children I perfectly understand the reasons why they're not included.

I have to agree that the option is we have no option to get rid of children which are imortal isnt good for immersion, guess it would be enough if they just run in fear and disappear in a placeholding area if all advlts are dead in the city, wouldnt be against the rules. But i would suggest to change the subject of thread then to discuss possible ways to protect the immersion against small gods running around. :toughninja:

In Morrowind we could kill anyone. Now there if you kill anyone you're able to kill, we'll get a sort of Children of the Corn :disguise:

But still, we don't need that.

As others mentioned this will ultimately be locked.

The issue gamesas would deal with is inevitable red tape from countries with a) politicians who know nothing about video games and cannot discern fiction from reality and B ) any large swath of politically correct or content-controlling groups who want to dictate what others do and see even when involving non-real worlds.

Honestly I think the fact that this is taboo largely says what a joke modern nations have become at this issue. Sadly, people have to choose between wanting the option to kill pixel children or be able to buy the game at all.

In truth killing pixel children isn't that important to me to demand it or have any effect on whether or not I play Skyrim, however, I'm sad that red tape has it so discussion of it will get squelched because either people can't handle opinions on this very forum, or the politically correct simply cannot discern fiction from reality.. or you have those who enjoy telling others what they can and can't see or do even when it harms no one else in real life.
