for the men playing as a female character

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 9:50 am

To answer your question, I like the idea of a gay protagonist in story telling. Deviating from what is expected of a hero makes the character seem more real, and also it helps me dissociate my character from myself for the purposes of role playing. Also, it makes the character more alien, more of an outsider to the people he will save, being the hero of the game.

Also I really like Cpt. Jack Harkness on Torchwood; the character is so complex, it feels like a motif in itself.

lisbians are unexpected, and they like girls. Guess I'm unimaginative but if I wanted to further disassociate myself from my character and play something alien I'd play a khajiit or an argonian or something.

In Oblivion I often keep several different characters going of different races and genders. I think female characters are more interesting to play though as they are more pleasing to look at. It's not like I consider myself being my character though. I'm just the one watching her story unfold. Like in a movie.

It really depends on what character I'm playing at the time. if I'm playing my usual character of a (male) Breton Mage, then I'll be going for the cutest girl I can find. Otherwise? it comes down to character.

My second character, an orc that likes two handed weapons, is going to be looking for a meek woman, because he likes to feel like a protector. My third, which is usually a female khajiit or argonian thief is going to be looking for a wealthy man within their own race.

I'm female and I used to play female characters in games but, yeah, I need variety.. so I usually go with male characters nowadays. As the saying goes, if I'm gonna stare at my character's back throughout the whole game might as well have a nice body to look at. ;-)

But I guess my second character will probably be female. ^^

It won't be my first playthrough but eventually I'll end up making a female assassin, probably marrying the DB leader or a member.

What Walt was talking about is that any character which isn't the stereotypical Conan-type fantasy hero is much more believable and enjoyable than.... well, the stereotypical Conan-type fantasy hero. This is what most 'men' like to play, the big, strong man over whom women swoon over all the time, wishfulfillment if you wish (pun not intended). This makes a game very stale though, at least for most people, even if they won't admit to it - Purely because it becomes "just another Michael Bay flick" so to speak. Just another nonsensical movie with more explosions than lines of dialogue.

I guess it's also a culture thing, especially in a religious country like the US, where certain things are simply 'not done' (even if they claim it's okay). People's minds are shaped by this and their upbringing and experimentation, or just the act of keeping an open mind, become increasingly difficult to where any deviation from the norm is ridiculed or even punished by one's peers.

Long story short: This thread is pretty superfluous. It's a discussion between people who already understand and people who cannot understand.

Except both male and females have the same attributes in Skyrim, only race governs attributes now.
Thank goodness for this. I am female, but would play a male character in Oblivion because I got tired of having to make three trips back to that dungeon or fort to carry the loot (even with all the stacked Feather spells).

I asked my husband this just now, and he responded with "I'd make my character look like you, then try to find an NPC that looked similar, and get them to have some lisbian action"...

I'm not sure whether to be flattered, or creeped out.

More a case of:

My female character will be a dominant witch/archmage with a gothic silk corset and a One-Handed whip and her husband will be a brainless slave.

i wonder what kind of male npc you will choose to be your character's husband. what sort of things you will look into when it comes to finding your ideal and perfect dream husband for her? :talk: .

what race and class is your character going to be?.
I'm not going to have a husband... :hubbahubba:

First time I started playing female characters was a few years ago, when my RL wife told me I failed to comprehend female logic. As a joke I started playing female characters and it kinda grew on me. Somehow they always end up being evil though. :|
No clue on what race or class I am going to be, can't make up my mind yet (:, but my in game husband is probably going to be someone I can relate to.

I find it easier to get into a different character by playing a female. If I play a male I often end up just playing myself.

Although this means I can play thieves, assassins and killers, this isn't just my stupid male chauvinistic ideas that "women are all crazy". It's just a way of disassociating my own personality from my characters.

So I don't think there's anything creepy about playing as a female, however I'll probably end marrying someone just like me in the game. Which is perhaps a bit narcissistic.
I enjoy playing both genders myself, after all this is role playing. anyway, i couldn't have said it any better than that when playing a female. most definitely takes on a whole new train of thought.

In fiction in general, nothing is new under the sun. In heroic fantasy, however, I can't think of a single lisbian protagonist (unless the rumors about Xena were true).

My khajiit female will try and marry whatever Nord Male most closely resembles the Stock Dhovakhin in terms of appearance and ability...

Guys see tough nord, think he's Dragonborn, and SURPRISE! It's the kitty-cat!

I wish I knew how to make machinima...
