"For the Republic" Brotherhood bug

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:45 am

While doing the "For the Republic" quest I am on the paet where I have to deal with the BoS. I want to form an alliance between them and the NCR but whenever I talk to MacNamara he says he is busy preparing to lift the lockdown and won't talk to me. Please Obsidian, look into this and if anyone knows a workaround please tell me.
P.S. I already completed "In the Dark" and am liked by the BoS.

Did you already help Lorenzo with the air purification problem ?

Because after finishing Still In The Dark quest you should been able to get another quest to get Power Armor training: Eyesigth To The Blind.

Did you help to recover the lost laser gun ?

Maybe getting Veronica as follower and taking her there migth help.

I got the purification filters, not the gun and how do you get "Eyesight to the Blind" quest and power armor training?

Hi,
Eyesight 2 the Blind.....

To start this quest, you will have to leave the bunker and go back to Elder McNamara.
After you complete the quest Still in the Dark, Elder McNamara will ask you once again for your help.
Accepting his request will activate Eyesight to the Blind.
NOTE: If this quest is unavailable to you, you may have to complete Veronica's quest, I Could Make You Care. This is more likely if Veronica is your follower.

After you completet the quest report back to Elder McNamara, he says they have been receiving telemetry from the transponder. He will reward the title of Brotherhood of Steel Paladin, T-45d Power Armor in poor condition, the perk Power Armor Training, and full access to the armory.

best regards and a happy new year.

Thanks for the tip, but therein lies the problem, I can't start any dialogue with him, he simply tells me he his busy. I also already completed "I Could Make You Care."

OK, :brokencomputer:

as far as i understand you got urself the filters already,
but you also need :

Reverse Pulse Cleaner from Vault 3
Differential Pressure Controller from Vault 11

After you complete this quest, youre able to talk to Mc Namara again.
Until that he only responds --- he is busy preparing to lift the lockdown ---

Ok, i got one more thing before i am passing out on this.....

There is a bug that allows the player to seemingly complete both options. For this error state to occur, you must tell Hardin about the "Chain that Binds" but NOT tell him about McNamara's orders to find scouts/paladins/filtration parts. The player can then turn in the filtration parts, tell McNamara you've turned in the parts, and finally tell Hardin about the orders. This is the only order of events that works, as the "Chain that Binds" dialogue options disappear from Hardin after turning in the filtration parts.
--This route generates more immediate XP, but leaves the two NPCs in an error state. They will, for the rest of the game, both only tell the player to come back later. This prevents you from continuing on to the next part in the chain.

And...
Helping Hardin to take over the chapter and repairing the filtration system are intended to be mutually exclusive quests. However as long as you have spoken to Lorenzo about the filtration system before Hardin takes over you can still turn in the parts to him and he will direct you to the elder, but McNamara will No LONGER have the Completion Dialog. You must pick one or the other, with Hardin's route being easier but resulting in less faction rep (the average player ending up at "accepted") and McNamara's being harder but leaving the average player at "liked." Note also that the quests following their transitions are completely different.

best wishes...hope that helps ya

Well thanks for all the help PaladinLaCruz, unfortunately it looks like the only option left in order to make sure the NCR wins is to kill the BoS. Great, fml. Ah well, maybe I'll take a break from Fallout and play some other stuff while I wait for a patch...

Well, Kman, I guess we are both screwed in this regard. I am having the exact same issue. I'm still unclear on PaladinLaCruz's instructions on
1. Keeping McNamara in power
2. Getting McNamara to ally with NCR

Is the point never to talk to Hardin?

I guess I'm going for round 3 on FNV...no sense in continuing and I'm not wanting to try and destroy the BoS. S-I-G-H!

Actually, you were quite helpful. I didn't know it was possible to start both quests at the same time.

That isn't possible. He will corner you and ask for your help, You do not have to give it to him. You can do the research required, just don't tell him about The Chain.

In my first play through I sided with Hardin. While I could then not get them to ally with the NCR, I didn't have to kill them either. I believe Lt. Moore said something to the effect that they would have to take care of them later.

All-in-all, i prefer to side with McNamara
