For those who completed the game in the first week...

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 9:46 pm

I'm just curious.

For those who finished the game in the first week (or anyone who finishes the game, ever, in a matter of days), how often did you use fast travel to get where you were going? Since I never got in the habit of using it, I'd imagine it's must faster to finish the game if you use it to zip around.

Also, it's probably much easier to finish if you don't create character after character and discard them after level two, which is what I've been doing!

You're just baiting people into a stupid "fast travel is horrible and for casuals" arguement. Don't think we don't know that.

Way to jump to conclusions, kid.

At any rate, Wishbone, I've been using it whenever I need to. Usually for heading to a doctor that I know of to fix my limbs or buy some supplies. I do explore off the beaten path a lot, though.

And I finished the main quest about 3 days ago for the first time. It's fairly short, even if you don't use fast travel all the time. The real meat of the game is in the side quests, in my opinion.

There's no real random encounters. If you've seen what's between point A and B before, you've seen all it's got to show you just about. Wasn't going to discover anything new, just waste my time, so I fast travelled a lot.

I hope this doesn't turn into another fast travel cheering / bashing thread. I really was curious.

I know most people use fast travel, and I'm cool with that. I just don't, mostly because when I'm in a hurry to get somewhere in the game, that's when I know that I've been playing too long! I also, dunno why, usually walk everywhere instead of running. Maybe that's because IRL I can't run worth a damn and certainly not all day up and down mountains.

Thanks for answering and I hope to get a few more responses before this falls into lower page oblivion.

Even tho I have 50 real hours invested in the game, I'm not done. I'm specifically avoiding the main quest. So I didn't vote.

However, I just wanted to say that I use Fast Travel like its going out of style. I tend to play a SELL ALL style, so my companion and I will strip every item from every complex/building. If that means I fast travel to sell 9 times in a building because there are 9 rooms to loot, then so be it. :)

Hah! I did that once in FO3, too! Like it was my personal responsibility to clean up the wastelands! You never saw such sparkling clean subways in your life as you did when I was done with 'em!

I logged 80+ hours in my first playthrough, I didn't start using fast travel a lot until the last 10-15 hours or so because some quests were getting a little tedious. NCR and BOS missions required a lot of long distance traveling over areas I had already scoured quite thoroughly.

Eh, I just fast travelled medium to long distances. The way I see it, once you find a place, that map marker to fast travel to is something I earned. I don't want to make repeat runs from Goodsprings ALL THE WAY to Jacobstown. Thats just tedious at that point. :bonk:

Thanks, everyone, for taking part.

I'm glad this didn't turn into another flame fest, and the results look pretty much like I expected. I had a hunch, see, that to finish the game quickly, in a matter of days, you'd need to fast travel more often than not, and it looks like that's the way it is. Maybe a bit more skewed toward fast travel than normal.

I know if I used fast travel, I wouldn't heave a sigh before starting the game back up, knowing that my immediate future meant hitting the Q key, driving my char, and sitting back while she walked back home. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.

Really depended on where I had to go (and current locations). Most of the time I'd walk to places that had a route I didn't explore yet. Or if I just wanted to enjoy a stroll through the desert with a nice music.

I still haven't completed the game partly because I don't use fast travel.
