For those who played so far... ESO worth it?

Post » Tue Feb 25, 2014 6:54 pm

I only got to play during the last beta, and only a little bit. Overall...YES...totally worth it! I had a blast! It's a fun game for sure. Yes, I had some frustrating moments, and I didn't love absolutely every aspect of the game, but I liked it enough to pre-order and try it for the first month at least. I have a feeling I will continue to subscribe after my free month is up

That being said, my main problems with it were:

-Crashing (it was a stress test though so I sort of expected that)

-Bugged dialog with npc's (I would have to do /reloadui - many times per session)

I'm sure these things will be mostly ironed out at launch. I expect these minor issues will continue to pop up HERE AND THERE for a little while after launch while they keep tuning the game - but eventually it wil all stabilize.

Crafting:

-I had trouble finding the right npc's sometimes (this is due in part to the fact that they don't have nameplates like WoW or other MMO's - and also due to my aging memory)

-Once I found the right people, I didn't know what to do (in other words, I didn't know HOW to enchant, HOW to use the BS station etc - Most of these things will be addressed by a) having a manual handy once the game is launched B) just remembering how to do stuff)

I am confident that all these things will be addressed, on their end AND my end. I'm am confident that Zenimax will continue to fine tune the content, add more, remove stuff etc until the game runs great for almost everyone.

Folks, Zenimax is listening! I think they really want this game to be a success and are going to be really invested in it for a long time to come. They have already addressed two of the biggest gripes to come out of the last beta and I think that shows they trully do care about OUR experience. I do think they have their work cut out for them; some people will not even consider it because it's quite different from WoW etc. Some people will not consider it because it's quite a bit different from other ES titles. But if you keep in mind that it is it's own thing, and not expect it to be Skyrim OR WoW, then you're in for a treat.

Plus, it's the best looking MMO ever and simply exploring the world they created will be worth it.

8.5/10 based on my limited experience with the game....I think that's a great score for a brand new MMO, and I expect that will go up even more in the future.

There's more I could say - I admittedly did not go to deeply into some of my thoughts - but the bottom line for me is, if you can afford the game (knowing that you may not like it and will stop playing after your free month) then get it. I think you'll dig it...just don't have too many expectations and realize it's kind of it's own thing.

If you can wait I would.

I suspect the game will be free to play or buy to play sooner rather than later.

Right now it is just like every other game people fell in love with....its new.

Thats the only hook it has.

Once people get used to it you will see players taking mass exoduses from the game.

If you dont have any friends or a guild that plays all their games together I would wait.

Oh, well, I guess that explains it. I don't think there was any free to play games back when I got into MMOs 10+ years ago.

Why assume that? Ff14 is and old school action bar mmo with sub and a decent amount of players, SWTOR if released now in its finished state wouldn't be free, Rift went f2p to gave Tiron quick cash boost to stop them going under, you don't need 7 mil subs to make money.

Honestly I like that this game has a monthly sub fee, I hope it keeps it forever.

When games go free to play they all seem to take a nose dive....also they tend to pick away at you a few $$ at a time for this or that content.

Also free to play seem to have more spammers and irritating people who don't want to play the game but just want to troll the people who do like to play it lol.

Those small reasons along with games with monthly subs tend to have better in game support.

So lets hope this game keeps its monthly fees

$15 Is about one trip to the movies with some popcorn and a drink.....so skip the movie and rent it for a $1 in a couple months and save that money for a whole month of Elder Scrolls fun.

I would say its worth it. Im not a devout ES player, ive played a few titles but I did get into the beta. Its a solid game, Im not going to sit here and tell you its the greatest game in all aspects but its certainly worth the 60 intro price without a doubt. So we get to the sub, here's how I feel about it.... Im a little gun shy like other people after SWTOR on any sub based game. That said, I would be floored if the same type of scenario happened here. 15 a month isn't too steep considering what I pay for coffee a week. I think its probably best to let go of the negative perceptions around the sub and consider that the sub creates the atmosphere of expectations on the developer. That's a good thing as I am hopeful there wont be a cash shop with p2w items for pvp which happened in LOTRO and pretty much killed the action.

Im going to be curious as to the options on prepurchasing months. I swear I read somewhere that you could get a discounted price if you paid for months in advance. If they don't come at me with expansions I have to buy once a year but Im getting new content here and there Im okay with it. What the hell else are you going to spend your money on. If youre a gamer, youll want to be in TESO, even if its only for 6 months.

For me ESO is worth $200.00, because i simply love TES and MMOs, so combining them together is awesome to me. but for you? That i can't tell you. That will be something for you to decide, it isn't smart to base everybody elses opinion off of something you may really enjoy, while a crowd can tell you they hate it.

Ive had friends tell me a movie was horrible, don't go see it. And then i went to see it and loved it.

Don't listen to people who say "fail" or "crash" in the same sentence as a high profile MMORPG. Most games many MMO players or other game players for that matter claim are failures are actually far from it and I can't think of any MMO that "crashed" in recent times without more than enough time online for people to get their fill of it, there is just too much money involved for that to happen. Maybe the game will move to a different payment scheme than monthly subs but NOONE knows when or even if this will happen, not even ZOS since obviously now they are assuming they will and planning to have subs for the entirety of the games lifespan which will be at least 5 years.

What it comes down to is this, if you really want to play it and it has to be in the immediate future relative to launch then yes the price is worth it. If it is not really that important to you and you aren't interested enough to already be planning a purchase then it could just as easily wait and bet on paying less money or none at all to play, the difference is one way you are making a bet on something happening that very well might not (game going b2p or f2p). The first way you definitely pay some money but you definitely get what you pay for.

IMO this game is well worth the asking price, in fact , I would have paid double for the box and pay twice as much per month, the reason I would pay that is from playing in the past three betas, the game is EXACTLY what I have been wanting in an MMO, the crafting the PVPing and mostly the open exploration, love the exploring part..

I would tell every single person I know or meet to try this game

GREAT [censored] GAME !!!

It's a matter of perspective. Just look at ESO as just another $60 triple A video game where you will have 30 days to decide if you want to keep playing. If you don't like it after the 30 day period included in that $60, don't subscribe.I think it is worth the $60. We'll have to see what kind of content ESO has beyond level 15 to keep playing and subscribing. The pvp is neat but I don't think that too many (a million or less) will keep subscribing just for pvp in Cyrodiil unless ZOS can make it more than just an abstract blue vs. red vs. yellow thing. The big part of the initial base will probably be curious TES fans.

The whole "worth it" question isn't something that can be answered for EVERYBODY, since 60+15/mo means vastly different things to different people, depending on what their financial situation is.

If you have to give up food or shelter or heat to play? Not worth it :P

If you have to give up new clothes or a daily coffee? Depends on the value you put on those things. Everybody prioritizes things differently.

If you don't have to give up any of your normal expenditures at all? Then of course there's no question.

For me, it replaces buying other single player games, and there's no question that it's worth it. Really have enjoyed my time in beta and can't wait to play to the end in all three alliances, and then check out the endgame ;) Have already made new friends through my beta guild and look forward to playing with them, as well as my old gaming friends.

But really nobody else can answer the question of whether it's worth it for YOU.

I played the last beta for 2 days, and I had more fun in those 2 days than playing lots of mmos in the last 2 years. So for me, there is no doubt that its well worth it.

But yeah, test by yourself in the next beta, tho I believe u will like it enough.

Speaking in general, many people in America can afford to go with $60 less food given that more than half of Americans are classified as overweight or obese (grosly overweight).

It looks to me like a lot of the complaints are actually being resolved or worked on. Im more optimistic than I was a month ago.

Whether its going to faceplant depends on the quality and quantity of end game PvE content, which we still know relatively nothing about. Cyrodiil isnt going to keep the game from going F2P.

In short, its still up in the air.
