For those who played so far... ESO worth it?

Post » Tue Feb 25, 2014 8:56 pm

I'm just a little curious... With how much the game is per month and all (Around 15 dollars I think, yes? At least I was told)...

Is the game, so far, worth buying and paying for? Or is it not worth it and there's a good chance that ESO might fail and crash due to the price is too high for what the game is worth?

Though I think the main reason why I'm asking is cause I did got into a debate with some friends of mine (School friends, too... Well back when I was in school)... Pretty much all of them think the game cost way too much and it will just end up failing and crash (Even though it seems like they hadn't checked out NOT one single thing about it, to my knowledge)...

I mean, from what I've saw and heard... The game would definably be worth it (If i have the internet and proper system to play de' game, firstly)... But I want to hear some more opinions about it... If that's alright.

The game isn't going to fail, it's a very good MMO. For me personally, after playing in the open beta it basically killed my interest in all other games. ESO just does everything better.

It is a matter of taste, really. To me, ESO is absolutely worth it. I have very minor complaints, nothing deal breaker at all, and I bought the CE after four hours of gameplay because I knew that I could never pass a game like this.
One of my closest friends hates everything about it, though.

There isn't going to be an open beta. That being said, I believe anyone that applies will stand a more than fair chance to get in to closed beta. They may even be inviting everyone that applies at this point.

I have played many many MMOs and this looks to be one of the best I've ever played. After 3 betas I am hooked and cannot wait for more.

There is way to much to explain in one post though without creating a wall of text.

My advice would be to apply for beta and hope for an invite. Do that as soon as possible, because there is strong speculation that beta invites for this weekend are going out tomorrow.

Meanwhile, go to youtube and search ESO. Watch several videos on both PvE content and the PvP content. Also crafting.

Having recently played I the BETA, I am definitely hooked. PvP is amazing and I am coming from a game (FFXI) that has little PvP elements. The PvE is also nice but I would imagine it will receive plenty of updating and added content. I have tried many other mmos and this is the only one to hold my attention and get to think about an MMO other than FFXI. Give a try if you can get a BETA invite

We can never know the longevity at the beginning, swtor and warhammer are good examples to how certain things are not visible in closed betas that give you first few areas of the game. So it would be speculation how much it will hold for how many years, when it will go out of subs model etc.

For me, having played 4 betas, I can say that the box price and the $15 is definitely more than worth for what this game has to offer from the first moment of logging in until I complete both veteran content. I am buying it and subbing not thinking if I will be playing in 6 months - if I can get the entertainment value for $150 I pay for 6 months, I will be more than happy with my purchase and I have a feeling I will for that period.

[ PC MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ]
  • Operating System: Windows XP 32-bit
  • Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
  • Memory: 2GB System RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
  • Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with 512MB of RAM (NVIDIA? GeForce? 8800 / ATI Radeon? 2600 or better)
  • Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

If you have anything close to those specs, it's worth trying. After all, that's one of the things beta is for. To test how the game functions with various hardware.

It's clearly a better game than WoW for the same price, so if WoW's worth it, ESO is.

The sub isn't an issue if you sit 29p aside each day, even if you only play a few hrs a week the price to fun ratio is mute IMO. I paid 45£ for games that lasted 3 hrs, I think the 27.99 for 3 months is good ( guessing at reduced price for more months ordered)

Trust me... Not even close... I'm on a very very old computer and almost every single bucking time I tried to get a newer computer with at least a hand full of those specs... SOMETHING fails and ye'h... Got a useless computer...

It's really frustrating me honestly... And even after I get the right computer, got internet to worry about... Where I live, can only get Phone or Satellite related internet stuff... (And currently on Dial-Up... Which is a PAIN to deal wit' normally).

Though I am happy someone shared the specs requirement for the game and now I know for sure what to keep an eye out... Btw, do you know any good places to check out for a proper computer with W7 installed? (Might as well asked, I guess, while I'm at it)...

You should participate the beta and decide for yourself if it's worth it.

I'm still on the fence. There are things about it that I like, others that I don't. It may be mostly that I have a preference for oldschool MMO gameplay over casual friendly MMO gameplay, which has been the trend in recent years.

So far, the PvE has a bit of a "been there, done that" feel to it. It's done reasonably well, but it's not groundbreaking or particularly interesting to me. It's the three-way faction war I'm most interested in, because the massive battles are quite fun. However, there isn't all that much variety in the objectives you're fighting for and competition might demand the use of mods that give more information than they should (imo).

The game had some serious issues when I last played it, but ZOS clearly isn't slacking off when it comes to making changes. So at launch the game might be reasonably polished, at least for the low level content. TESO will not be for everyone, but I don't think it will fail either.

I dumped WoW for good. That old ship has finally sailed.

ESO is looking solid. Give a beta weekend a try and see what you think. It's looking great to me.

If your worried about the price of a sub, don't get a rdy made pc, costs so much more than its worth, build your own and save a lot.

Most fun I've had in an MMO in ages. It brought me the same sort of feeling of excitement and adevnture I had in DAoC and the earlier days of vanilla WoW.

$15 a month is basically pocket change in terms of $/hours of fun, based on what I've seen thus far.

The apparent quick response of the devs to player feedback, especially so late in the development cycle, bodes very well. Also, the client is easily the best optimized I've seen at release ever. Vanilla WoW was pretty good, but I still recall a fair number of glitches. Constant 90fps at 1440p with everything maxed, with lots of system resources left to spare, and virtually no hiccups, stutters, graphical bugs, etc. SWTOR and Rift weren't in this league two months after launch, forget about two months before. Looks better than any other big name MMO I've seen to boot.

I'm not going to count chickens too early, but IMHO a quick and rrsponsive dev team (in actions, not just words), an extremely stable and well optimised client, novel mechanics, and a (subjectively) "right" feel suggests to me that this one might stay p2p for a while. It certainly blows away Rift and SWTOR at launch in virtually every way, and by a large margin.

I won't call it a WoW killer, because it's not, nor is it trying to be. Frankly, I don't think we'll see a true WoW killer until Blizzard decides to kill WoW.

I am really into this game after two beta weekends. I got into the crafting last beta and I love it. I usually don't do much crafting in other mmorpgs but I will for ESO. I like the system in place. Watch the videos on pvp (haven't tried it yet) there is some good footage out there. Worth the money? For me yes, you have to decide for yourself. Sign up for beta asap. Good luck!

I have played a lot of MMO's on a subscription basis. ESO has changed up the way things are presented to players, or maybe I should say they have mixed it up a bit. So far, from my two beta tests, I didn't see anything earth shaking that I haven't already seen in good MMO's.

The real test for a new game release is minimizing peoples frustration at launch. I did see quite a few bugged quests, some of which would prevent you from continuing a quest line, there were some latency issues, some mobs were over "camped" etc... so hopefully they will get that stuff fixed... but I have seen that before and most likely something else will appear and get people frustrated. After a smooth launch, most people will have enough time in the game and start complaining about balance issues.

Class Balance could come an issue, if people whine about it enough. What I mean by that is that since there are only 4 classes, but you can use any weapon or wear any armor, doesn't mean you should. If people complain that their heavy armor wearing, duel-weilding DK Breton doesn't get the same results using a 1h/shield combo against mob "X" it could become an issue. Depends on how ESO addresses it. Just because you can dump skill points into something, doesn't mean you should. Graphics are not over the top, and mob AI is not that great. I would put it on par with other MMO's. I have yet to go against any real boss mobs to see how the ai on them work.

The PVP area is standard for most MMO's that have a PVP area... a triangle map with different capture the flag/keep/stone/insert objectives.

Hey, Jusey1, if I could politely ask - what is your reference for the game's subscription fee? I am a bit flummoxed why a lot of people are saying it's high. Are there other online games you and your friends have played that are cheaper? (There very well may be - I have not played a substantial amount of MMOs.)

I find a lot to love in ESO, but then again, I am a die hard fan of the series. If you can't get into the beta, videos may be your best bet of checking it out.

Edit: Oh, and if you do go for a new computer, I agree with the others. Build it. You will save hundreds of dollars.

If money is very tight, you can usually find a pre owned PC at any local PC repair shop. You could easily find something that would match the minimum requirements for $150-$400

If you can spare more money, I would advise getting something that meets the suggested requirements

[ PC RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ]
  • Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8 64-bit
  • Processor: Quad Core 2.3GHz or equivalent processor
  • Memory: 4GB System RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
  • Video Card: Direct X 11 compliant video card with 2GB of RAM (NVIDIA? GeForce? 560 Ti / ATI Radeon? 6950 or better)
  • Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

You can get a very solid rig for $800

You can get satelite or land line internet that is faster than the standard 56k.

There are "free" games, but virtually all are pay2win, with average monthly expenditure higher than p2p games for people that play more than a couple hours a week.

I've honestly been thinking about building my own... I do, after all, have a computer upstairs that is unused... And can definably keep parts from it (Heck, I have two harddrives from it... One is 450GB and the other 500GB, both with Windows 7 Ultimate installed!) but my knowledge in this computer area is lacking so will need to do some research of "how to build a computer" and such...

But anyways. I didn't create this thread for computer talk. So I am terribly off topic here.
