For us trophy collectors

One activity that totally svcked me into Morrowind was soultrapping various creatures (especially the unique named ones, like the Dagoths). Once I had an adequate abode, it was very satisfying to catalog and display them. Lesser souls of rats, scribs, and kwama's neatly stacked on the shelf. Grand souls of the Dagoths arrayed amongst spilled gems on limeware platters. It gave one a certain sense of accomplishment, and kept me playing long after the quests had ended.

A few years later, Oblivion just wasn't the same. Soul gems came in two varieties: Filled and Empty. There was nothing to link the filled soul gem to the adventure you had in capturing it. But even if there was, attempting to display them was useless. Items bound by physics would slide on surfaces like greased kittens, or go flying across the room if you so much as looked at them funny. In Morrowind, my abode was a massive display and testament to my adventures, but in Oblivion I simply placed everything in containers to avoid the mess and headache.

So here's desperately hoping that Skyrim has the following features.
- Soul gems that display the name of the captured soul
- "fixed" item placement

I agree that soul gems should go back to having the name of the creature on them. Having one with "Vivec" or "Dagoth Ur" was really badass. "Fixed" item placement is a good idea, so long as it's optional or there's some specific way to do it. Physics are a good thing, but trying to decorate your house with those physics can be a hassle. (The Decorator Assistant mod for Oblivion fixed this wonderfully, but isn't really something that would make sense in-game.)

Yes, this is a good suggestion, indeed. Mostly about the physics, though, as I don't really care about soul gems.

Here here...

You definately should be able to correctly display your items, and in addition, the name of the captured soul should be shown... totally agree.

Yes
It was a real pain in TES IV and FO3 getting everything set up perfectly then 2 minutes later accidentally knocking something over
Mods helped for PC users
I'd hope that if they can't manage fixed item placement everywhere then at least there'll be options like weapon racks, armour mannequins and display cases that "fix" items placed in them

I agree, in morrowind my abode was filled with countless treasures and trophies of past conflicts, in oblivion however it was mainly just rare weapons and daedric artifacts

I hope this issue does get definitively addressed. Morrowind's overflow lootbag killed me, especially since even if you empty it I don't think it disappeared, and even though the cell was now vacant, any items set down went back into it.

Oblivion's physic-glitchy display cases had the same effect. We need: armor mannequins, and the ability to "hang" stuff on walls, anywhere we want.

"Smart" display cases; you put things inside (like chests) and it displays everything, as long as it has "sense"... Maybe some "Weapon display case", "Armor display case", "Soulgem display case", etc? Anothe other option could well be mannequins for armors (vanilla mannequins, not modded), etc..

But please, yes, take back soul gems that display the name of the captured soul.

I love decorating my house, I want more house options and easier ability to decorate. While I am sure a mod will help out, many player want this(afterall Beth put player homes in the game), so hopefully there will be a fix for this in SR.

Right! Even the humble chitin dagger had a place in my weapon room in Morrowind.

The Physics for the 360 were super glitchy. I used to be able to "drop" certain items that stood up in mind air.

I'm hoping for nothing less than physics-less fixed item placement. I want Dwemmer bowls with greedy handfulls of gems. I want 5 foot tall precariously balanced stacks of books. Ebony and glass piles stacked in the fireplace. Bleeding Daedra hearts on top of Kagouti skins, and bonemeal neatly piled on scraps of paper.

... I might have to go install Morrowind again.

One thing is not incompatible with other :) I used to pile books in the floor in my shack, and used tables and shelves for my weapons and armors. The fact is that even when I find nice to "accumulate" some alchemy tools and ingredients like Corpus Weepings, Daedra's and Ghoul's Heart or Vampire dust in a table, I think it looks way better to display weapons in walls, for example, armors in mannequins and SOME items in display cases; http://www.hotlinecy.com/RM%20Displays/Lucite%20jar%20stand.JPG could be perfect to display soulgems, and having something like http://www.jmu.edu/geology/wm_library/museum.jpg could rock to display whatever we want to.

Definitely like the brainstorming happening here. I hope Beth honours the feedback they've gotten from the amount of people abroad that loved using their houses for showcase purposes. For instance, I loved collecting all the rare books in the games, and for me, a library that I could shelve books in would be spectacular. All the ideas about armor and weapons racks sounds fantastic too. Do want.

Yeah I hope they do as well. At first I was like meh no one's going to see this stuff except me. So what's the point.

Recently though (in Oblivion) I've been setting up Ayleid statues on my mantel, and credenza in Benius manor. What a PITA! I know there are mods, but I'm not THAT into it to fuss with all that atm. Actually, I haven't found one to do items (books yeah) without having to do other things as well (summon an altar or w/e). I'm at like 60 hours now still trying to clear everything, maybe when I'm done with that I'll look into further.

But, I feel a greater sense of accomplishment when I'm able to see them all (four of them lol). It's quite nice, hehe.

I'm sure they think these ideas are great as well. But, they have idea's of their own. They need to do tons of work making sure all that is functional first before getting into all the little things. Sure they have been creating this game for awhile now, but the creation engine most likely took half that time (don't quote me on that). So yeah...I'm sure if they find the time, something like this would be put in (like the bobble head deal in FO3, heh or sold as DLC lol).
