I was also having trouble with ammo.. but reading the posts here, I have very little points in the luck category.

Yep, definitely time to make a new character.

Well, at first I found myself in a similiar situation, I ran out of ammo and had to really save my bullets.

I use a 10mm pistol for various encounters, a hunting rifle for sniping and a sawn of shotgun for close encounters/surprise attacks.

After a short while I noticed that I had almost no ammo for these guns but I had over 900 bullets of the 0.38 and since bullets seem to be the proper way to pay for items I traded my .38 for the more desireable 10mm, .308 and shotgun shells (which you will find in ambundance after a while).

My Top Five Tips for ammo conservation:

1: Two guns - long range and short range for whatever two ammo types you have the most of - as you use up one type you stockpile another. Swap out as required.

2: Carry a big stick. Or knife. Or sledgehammer. Some melee weapon for the times when your enemy ain't worth a bullet.

3: Use the right tool for the job. Miniguns are fun, but total overkill on a Radroach. Try to use the least force neccessary to kill a particular target.

4: Loot loot loot. Learn to pick locks. Learn places that respawn ammo and visit regularly (Gunner camp on the freeway next to downed Flight 1981 is a good one - plus the crash site itself often has an NPC battle raging).

5: Always weigh the cost of the ammo you're about to expend vs the reward you'll get. If you've got 4 wild dogs guarding a toolbox, move on. If it's a pile of safes, go nuts.

Honorable mention: .38 cal ammo is as common as texture pop in the Wasteland. Mod up and carry a Bolt gun as your go-to gun. Use it on everything you can.

Hope that helps! :)

heh all my special stats are 5 except charisma and it's 6. don't have any issues finding ammo, but I would agree on the armor thing. I left a crapload of armor behind when going after kellogg.

hey it's you again, at that level on normal it's good to revisit old areas with re spawning enemies and pick up ammo from them, if you find a pipe weapon with really good mod/s then re-mod with a standard version so you can re-use that mod for you own super pipe weapon...unless you have gun nut and can make mods you need yourself...i strongly recommend avoiding the castle until you're about level 20 or you have ALOT of frag mines to kite the queen through...the first time I defeated her was the first time in the game where I actually used any of my psycho and med-x

Good advice. I make sure I have at least 4 weapons. 1 for each of these ammo types: 10mm, .38, .308, .45

This way I always have a useful weapon.

For the invisible lock pick bug, there is a sort of work-around. There is a "what's yours in mine" type of companion available. Was a godsend earlier on when I didn't have any lock picking. Hand over some bobby-pins and they can pick novice, advanced, and (with time and many pins) expert locks.

Ties you to one companions, but we get along great anyway. :foodndrink:

The first thing I did was get the more ammo from boxed perk. That helps a lot.

I've got a legendary Explosive Sniper gun, it can be molded to take. 38 once I get to level 25 for the gun perk. That's my plan, taking a gun with a power perk and use that

I have a luck of 3 and I have ammo for my pipe pistol and 10mm pistol for days. about 1000 for each. I have trouble keeping ammo for higher damage weapons though.

I loot every corpse, pick up everything, barely buy anything except for junk for my settlement and I don't have problems keeping ammo for those 2 weapons. I do keep a bayonet on my pipe pistol for those odd close encounters but other than that I haven't had a problem on default and I just took scrounger at level 16. The biggest problem I had was Super Mutant Behemoths. Big bullet sponges, and 2 mini nukes barely made a dent. I found their weakness.... they can't swim, they will avoid deep water. So I find a small lake, swim to the other side and shoot them as they come go around and come at me. Works well.

I feel your pain. I only use automatics. This will be hard to say outside of the spoilers forum, but I will try.

Their is a certain greenhouse that is willing to buy a specific crop from you. Takes a bit of time, but if you go silly with the planting you can bring in a sizeable haul.

Also: Junkjet. I very much wish to tell you how to get it. :sadvaultboy:

Ammo can be an issue for those of us with high charisma and per esp 5.56mm that stuff is ultra rare for me. I seem to have to rotate which gun I use but one thing for sure I would recommend least early on is stay away from rapid fire weapons. They will drain your supply fast and thanks to the recoil most of those shots missed.

use knife, baseball bat, machete, sword, melle weapons, use the weapons you find until you run out of ammo then sell them, d side quests and get more money or use the console command to get money

Yeah, I'm aware that I could just use the console to have as much money as I want, but that's just not satisfactory for me. I prefer to actually play the game more or less as its intended, although bugs like the invisible lockpick can make that difficult at times.

As for melee, I just have no talent for it I guess. I'm always a little amazed when I manage to stomp on a radroach, 'cuz melee always seems to get me killed... Even in power armor, I can't go toe to toe with half of the opponents I run into it seems. and since I'm too poor to buy fusion cores, it doesn't matter anyway.

I have already retired that character, and a new one is coming along nicely... and much luckier, except she never seems to find bobby pins. Since the locks are invisible to me, I guess it doesn't matter mush, eh? :D
