Forced Third Person Finishing Moves Camera Confirmed

Post » Sun Jul 31, 2011 8:14 am

"And there are cinematic “kill moves,” in which the action slows down or the camera pulls back to show you finishing off a monster with a flourish."

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011/07/29/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-an-early-look/?mod=google_news_blog we will be forced to slay "monsters" in third person when one finishes them. I'm still uncertain myself whether said finishers are even optional, so there still might be hope.

As long as it's just dragons I myself won't mind.

Yes, it's been confirmed since e3 that they are automatic and unavoidable.

Still questionable whether or not finishers are optional and how many of these "monsters" force a third person cam-kill.

Its not just dragons, we've seen it used on a few things, both animals and people, in the gameplay videos.

While I roleplay, its not to an extent that this will ruin that, but I'm sure others will have different opinons.

I see the need for a third person kill for dragons, as you will be jumping and climbing beast which could make some people nauseous, but it worked fine for the bandit human kill. I didn't see the need for a forced camera on the wolf/dog.

If finisher moves aren't optional, i'll find a way to disable them myself before I even play the game.

At first, I was totally against this. But after thinking about it for a while, I seriously wouldn't mind it. I'm guessing its because I play in both points of view. I'm guessing that the people this would bother the most are the people who prefer to NEVER switch to 3rd person.

Maybe the 3rd person kills count as "kill-cams". If so then we'll definitely be able to disable them, as we could in Fallout.

Eh?

ShadowWarrior, I usually play in first person. I don't mind third person, as long as I decide when it's used. <_<

Thats a good point. I wouldn't be surprised if this is something that you can disable in the options menu. Things like this typically are in my experience.

I switch back and forth between third and first person, and I'm not too concerned about it popping you out of first person for finishers as long as it's not really common. I'm more miffed that it's uncontrollable and random even though you perform a completely different move, makes it into a luck thing when it should be based on skillful key combinations anytime during combat. Like DR :D

Eh?

I assumed you made the first comment to either show how much you didn't care about staying in first person or to show disapproval of my topic. If my topic, why even click on it? I made the title clear.

Agreed, but for the sake of most people it's better left optional. If that's even the case.

I think finishing moves are cool but i'd want them optional because i see them getting annoying late in the game.

Am I the only [censored] person in the world who really likes these damn things and doesn't give a flying [censored] about being "forced" out of first person? I really wish they'd actually show off the third-person play instead of simply insisting that it's a "viable option" now, because if it looks cool enough then I just might play in third person more often.

At any rate, as I've said before, what I really like about the finishers in third person is that it makes me feel like my guy (who is not me, but a character I control, for [censored]'s sake) is a part of the game world itself, and has actual physical interaction with the enemies he slays rather than just waving a damn sword around in their general direction until they ragdoll. It looks interesting, damn it, and the longest one we saw was at the end of the dragon battle, and it was all of five seconds, and appropriately flashy for the end of a major battle.

Still, given how much endless crying about it is on the forums I have no trouble believing they'll have an option to get rid of it completely, because after all, it's not like you'll get sick of seeing a ragdoll fall down after the 500th time. It's only one and a half second ribcage poking that ruins everything forever.

I'd like to have it optional, unless it's a specific encounter in some boss fights.
I don't want a finishing moves. I just want to be able to lop somebody's head off when I kill her. I don't want to be stuck in a 5 second animation while other enemies are beating on me.

Here is almost the same thread started a few days ago, with a link to another thread about the same topic from before that:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1214411-forced-3rd-person-confirmed/

The poll shows that (so far) less than 1/6 of respondents like the idea of being forced into 3rd person from 1st. That is, more than 5/6 don't care or don't like the idea, with almost 1/3 hating or GWAHH!-ing the idea.
