Forged Anew

Come, Children! Gather ‘round, and I shall tell you the tale of our ancestors!

We did not always live here, my children. Look up, gaze into the night sky! You see the stars, yes? Thousands of tiny pinpricks of light, perhaps even millions! Each its own sun, each with its own earth child. It is from that star filled blackness that we came, young ones.

But how, you ask? How could we jump through the void, and come to this foreign land that we now call home? Simple, my dear children! We built boats! Yes, massive shuttles that swam through the empty Gulf as though it were water! It was a great invention, perhaps the greatest in the history of our civilizations. Mankind celebrated and flourished.

But, as mankind always does, it turned its sights to domination and warfare. The Void was new land, now, as were all of the stars and planets within it. The boats we built were outfitted with exotic weaponry that belched flames and stone that could annihilate other ships. Fleets and armadas were formed, and the peaceful and empty night sky became filled with fire and death.

One such battle occurred over our very heads a thousand years ago. It is said the number of ships present were more than the stars in the sky, yet only three survived. Wounded and damaged, the Void Boats plummeted towards the surface of this planet, one crashing in the Eastern Plains, one in the Northern Mountains, and one in the Southern Bay.

The crew of these ships crawled forth from the smoking wreckage, and began to build. First they made small tents and huts to sleep in, and large signal fires to signal rescue ships. But none ever came. Then they built houses and lodges, as well as granaries to hold their gathered food. Still, no rescue came.

Those small lodges turned into larger homes, and those who lived within built families. Generations came and went, and the focus of the survivors turned from survival and escape to carving out a living in a new world. Our old cultures faded out and were forgotten, our history left unspoken and tarnished. Our small villages turned into towns, those towns into cities, and those cities into empires. We were forged anew on this alien world.

But, as is the way of Man, these Empires developed tools of war; sharp blades and axes and spears. The three nations clashed, spilling blood across the foreign soil of this world, seeking new territory, more power, and perhaps to resolve ancient conflicts that are only half remembered…

Yes, it was in the fire of war and desire that our civilizations were forged, and it is in those fires that we shall be destroyed.

Some here desire the conquest of their brothers and neighbors. Some desire the forbidden knowledge locked away in the ancient ruins. Some desire wealth and care not how it is acquired. And some desire to escape this world, and return to the one of Olde, spoken of only in tales and fables.

I ask you, my child, what is it that you desire?

Forged Anew is a small total conversion mod using the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The world, its people, lore, and history, are not connected to the Elder Scrolls mythos in any way, but are instead of my own creation (and your creation too, if you should chose to help).

Our objective with Forged Anew is to create a mod that will make players say “Wow, this is a cool game” and not mod. It will follow the natural niche of the Elder Scrolls series, however, with a strong “be who you want to be” vibe in a completely explorable open world, full of quests, monsters, flowers, and many secrets.

In addition to these features, we are developing plot line in Forged Anew that is complex and branching, with many different crossroads and multiple endings, all of which are morally ambiguous and open for the player’s interpretation. The player will completely skip over some quests when taking a certain path, and open the door to others that would otherwise be inaccessible, each resulting in different outcomes that will completely reshape the world.

Forged Anew will be a relatively small mod, about twice the size of the Bloodmoon expansion for Morrowind. In addition to a branching main quest, there will be several joinable factions, and a world full of mysterious dungeons and secret areas.

If you would like to help or join the Forged Anew team, you need only ask, and our private development forums will become available to you and we can jump right in and get to work. We need good scripters, quest writers, modelers, interior designers; anything and everything. If you are looking to develop your talents as a modder or writer, this is the place to be. Also feel free to post questions, comments, or anything else in this thread.

Coming soon!

18 months is not a very long time, as far as indie development is concerned. We currently only have a small handful of members, and require more to meet the deadlines. If you have any interest in joining the team, visit our http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/topic/5323-team-application-thread/ on Dark Creations, or shoot me a PM (or just post on this thread; doesnt quite matter). Any help is appreciated.
