I forget - at what level of cash does the game bug out?

Does 100,000 gold make it go wonky? Or does it take a lot more? Seems like I remember this being an issue at one point.

I don't recall there being an issue with coin in the game. My current character has 200,000g. 100,000 stashed in Breezehome and carrying the other 100,000. I haven't encountered any issues yet. Maybe 3 billion gold might cause some issues, but I haven't really heard of anyone getting that far.

Assuming the gold amount is saved as 32-bit number, it should be able to be anything between 2147483647 and -2147483648. So exceed that highest amount and it'll rollover as a negative number.

What is that, a negative 2 billion+ ?!?!?

Hmmm, perhaps a new quest line if you get too much coin and roll it over?

Okay, good deal then. I thought I remembered some issue with gold totals at some point.

Aren't we all glad they didn't decide to make a gold coin weigh 0.1 pounds?

No, I'm not. I wish they would bring back weighted gold, banks, and letters of credit from Daggerfall.

Yeah, I could see that, actually, but they'd have to rethink the whole economy. Prices are rather bizarre when you think about it; ten pounds of some vegetables are considerably more valuable than ten pounds of a lot of armor.

Maybe I should mention I'm playing on a 360.

Although it's possible I am just confused.

There are some weird occurrences I have come across where the merchants don't reset to what they had just before you saved your game, if you accidentally sell something you wanted to keep and reload so you don't have to buy it back. Like the merchants gold is low after you sold your item to them and their inventory is not reset. That has nothing to do with the amount of gold the player has though

Two quirks I've noticed about vendors:

? Sometimes stuff I sell stays in their inventory forever, and

? Sometimes their gold resets almost immediately. I've sold stuff at a vendor and brought them down to 3 gold, gone somewhere else in town, and returned like two hours later game time and they're back up to full gold.

Some custom smith and enchanted stuff will stay in their inventory. I think that is normal.

One way can think of their gold resetting is if you go back to the title screen or exit the game and load up your save again. Their gold theoretically resets every 24 hours, so it may be you sold i minor item to them the day before say at 3pm, but didn't bring their gold so low and came back the next day to sell them more stuff at 1pm and then 2hrs later their merchant gold resets back to full again for the day because it's been 24 hours since you saw them since their last "fresh" inventory.

No. Not seen that as an issue. Never seen it on anyone else as an issue either. My richest character (in terms of cash) has a little under 900k coinage.

Wasn't there an issue regarding merchants having more than 30,000 septims? I have some vague recollection of some mention, whether it was patched or not...I don't know

I believe so. I know I've run across a problem with the CoW merchants when I buy spells from them and their gold goes above a certain amount and I try selling them items to get the gold back their gold doesn't transfer over.
