Well. IF we can have our own custom weapons, mine will loke something like http://ofnir123.deviantart.com/art/Ancient-Blade-197723550, but with some runes and maybe a better handguard... if I ever find the inspiration to make a good-looking one
(and yes, that sword is from me)

If I can make any kind of weapon... then it′s 1-h hammer maxed in every way in terms of size :D It′s not about how you use it, but it′s the size that matters :D

I wish I haddnt read this, I will really miss it now if we cant forge custom weapons! I imagine a spore-like editor with preset moulds which can be tempered into various shapes...

And IF its in, I'm building Stormbringer.

I was told that we will be able to forge our own weapons but they haven't really told us the extent of the system yet, I really hope that they come pretty damn close to what you guys suggest

Of course we can make our own weapons, it's called modding. All you need is 3D modelling software and the skill to use it.

I don't understand how they could truly implement it on the level of "fully custom" weapons. \

Just for fun though IF we can....

I'd make http://www.samurai-swords-for-sale.com/store/images/P/Narsil-LOTR.jpg Just so anytime I met bandits on the road I could be like *unsheathes sword* "Behold! The blade that was broken, and forged again! Andúril! Flame of the West! Then they'd be like :o :bolt:

something like spore would be cool, maybe less extensive. you unlock more molds as the smithing skill rises. different molds have different stat boosts. items can be reforged if you have sufficient skill. if it works like that.
its possible to put in game tool-sets that work really well, spore, little big planet, and yes, minecraft.
it would almost bring the full user created experience to the casual market. and the pc guys get that + mods.

ooh...speaking of spore...darkspore..[school girl squeel]

 I haven't seen that one before!

As for the thread question, I'm not sure. I wouldn't want to be able to make something that wouldn't fit with the world.

I got it! I'd make a spear!

I played Dark Messiah and I didn't think the forge was that awesome. It was neat the first time I did it, but the only time you get to create a "unique" sword is near the end. And even then you don't customize it or anything. I mean, it was awesome with it being a linear game. But if Skyrim wants Smithing to be fun they are going to have to go a lot farther.

The only good way I can think of that would allow the player to make visually custom weapons inside the game, without getting ridiculous, would be to use a variety of different parts that the player assembles in whichever way he pleases to make his weapon. So in the case of a sword you'd have a variety of grips, guards, blades, pommels and decorations that you pick between to create a sword of your liking. The textures and statistics of the weapon would change depending on what materials you used in your assembly, so you could for instance deign to make a sword with a glass blade and a grip of ebony with a emerald set in the pommel, all visually effecting the look of the weapon. It would require weapons to be not only one model however but a composite of model parts. Such a design would also limit the uniqueness of looks in weapons, because the shapes would have to fit each other seamlessly without clipping or gaps.

Personally I think it'd be neat, but perhaps it would be even more interesting to bring such a system to armour crafting as well. I guess it would be something along the lines of the system found in Neverwinter Night's toolset, and armour and weapons crafting in-game.

What we've heard so far about character creation (in the podcast interview) sounds a little like what you've outlined here. Todd talked about a set of pre-designed noses as an example, adding that once the player had selected their pre-designed element, they could alter aspects of it like size. I cant imagine it would be too much of a stretch to use this "editor" with armour and weapons.

I want a "lightsaber". Dragonbreath sword or something, probably unique artifact. Hilt with magickal plasma fire + shock torch instead of blade. Due to inertia, it should wave a bit, effectively being straight while it is held in hand, and turning to curved, scimitar-style, when it is being used to strike.

Dao broadswords.

It would be cool if we could at least get moulds and make any shape of sword/hilt out of those moulds, so I could have an ebony sword that looksd like a silver one or a steel one that looks Elven.

I would guess a simple 1-handed hammer made from ebony with runes on the hilt. Magical of course.
