Forgive enemies

Post » Thu Sep 15, 2011 4:25 am

Say, a bandit attacks me. I disarm him. Hes close to death and running away. Will I be able to have mercy and he will recognize that?

I always hated how in FO3 the enemies kept running away from me when they are defenseless. I want to show them that im not going to kill them in cold blood.

Don't be surprised because THEY WILL run!

I like it that way makes you feel manly, no mercy!

That's odd.. when they ran from me.. it was only to grab another weapon.

But what if I dont want to be a cowardly weakling who slaughters defenseless enemies?

Hmm, wonder if they implented a mercy system, it might cause various effects.

Like 1 scenario:

The person you pardon gives you gold or items as ''thanks''.

Or the person comes at a random time to assist you in a battle as he or she feels the need to repay you.

OR

He/she returns to kill you again, showing you what an ass the person really is ^^

Then let them run away. But I bet within 30 seconds the AI will have them come right back to attack you. Then you can do what you should have done in the first place, kill :P.

That would be nice I guess but if I start attacking someone I like finishing I don't like wasting my time and they didn't start out defenseless.

If you want to play video games you may want to let go of this feeble morality. You will be much stronger.

If they wanted to live they shouldent have attacked my mage!

Maybe Im roleplaying. Im not going to play a cold blooded murderer just because I can, in every playthrough.

You might have to resort to a calm spell in that case, then get far enough away that combat stops. Because I have serious doubts that there will be an option like this outside of scripted events.

This argument fails because you gain level and skill by doing things and not specifically killing things. I agree if a bandit runs away for example it would be super lame if it just comes right back again and attacks. That kind of defeats the point of it running away in the first place.

I didnt think about that, thats quite a good idea. Anyways, an option for that would be better imo. You dont have to know magic to tell someone that you arent going to kill him.

 i meant if you let go of morals you will no longer be held back by them and be able to be crueler and in a sense "more powerful"

Nothing to do with skills, not even an argument it was a joke.

Actually I was thinking if that was going to happen they wouldn't just have enemies randomly attack you there would be a dialog first. If they attack you first its not cold blooded murder.

I agree, I was just being realistic with you.

Roleplaying someone passive is near impossible. Which is a real shame considering there used to be a healer class. (Maybe possible now with better companions?)

I'd like something like that. In my Oblivion game, I had the Vows and Covenants mod that allowed you to use the yield function on attacking NPCs to ask for their surrender. If they were low on health, you had enough speechcraft/fame/personality, or other factors they might become non-hostile and plead for mercy. At that point you could either extort gold in exchange for mercy or let them go, though you could even make them a companion as their disposition is raised when you grant them mercy.

The Vow to Stendarr actually rewarded you with Paladin/Cleric type lesser powers as long as you give NPCs one chance to surrender before killing them and removed them and cursed you if you broke your vow.

Was a great mod for roleplaying, I'd really recommend it.

(Though I would've liked to be able to turn bandits or other evil NPCs in to the guards rather than leave them out there in the wilderness, though I think they became completely passive towards good NPCs after that anyways)

No some will actually run away and hide in the corner if they are too afraid to fight.

A bandit would have it coming to him, considering his entire life revolves around greed and preying on the weak.
