Forgotten Dreams of Granduer

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 10:58 pm

His armor weighed against his body as he bounced slightly on the back of the horse. His steel longsword flashed in it's scabbard, and he held his shield in his hand. All of a sudden, an arrow flew through the air torwards him. He rolled off the horse, sword at the ready. An army of daedric soldiers charged at him. He smiled inside his helmet and ran torwards the army. The first bandit swung his sword, and so did the horseman. The two blades clashed against another and sparks flew as the horseman kicked the dagger in the man's belt into his gut. He then used a magic bolt to cut down another approaching bandit. He hadn't even broken a sweat. After all, he was a hero...

In his dreams...

-Age 14

The dog burst through the door and pounced on top of Ticedo Duroniam, jolting him from his dream. Ranger, the german shepard-huskie mix sat on the 14-year old's chest. He sat up slowly and scratched Ranger's ears. "Your worse than a rooster!" His dream was still in his head as he walked over to the wash basin and splashed his face, wetting part of his hair slightly. It was fairly long, which irritated his father, a veteran from the Imperial Army. His mother didn't bother with it. She said she picked her battles, and that wasn't one of them. With a flick of his neck, his hair fell away from his eyes. Ticedo pulled on his shirt, and put on his shoes. Doeskin. They were nice and soft. He opened the door and walked into the dining room. There was some bacon, a special occasion, and one of Ticedo's favorite foods. All thoughts of his previous dream left him in the aroma of the pork product. His father sat at the head of the table, reading the paper, while his mother was cleaning up the result of the bacon. "Morning mom, dad" His father looked up from the paper and smiled "Morning son" His mother walked past him and kissed him on his head, pushing his hair back into his face. His father shook his head and muttered "We should cut all that hair off, get him a nice, short military cut." Ticedo laughed and finished his bacon before his mom came back with some scrambled eggs, with some of thier cheese from their reserves. Ticedo's house was fairly large compared to other houses a little bit outside the Castle. They had a fairly large farm, with lots of crops, and some livestock. They also ran a stable, taking care of horses for people, as well as selling and buying horses. Blacks, Chestnuts, Paints, the works. It gave Ticedo alot of chores, but it was commonplace. It also gave him a fondness of sleep. However, he had alot to do before he got to go back to sleep...

Ticedo wiped the sweat from his forehead and set the hoe against the toolshed. He had gotten quite a few rows tilled before his father came back from town with a new steer. Their old one had gotten just that: old. He was sitting in the barn, and if a steer could have a look of tranquility, he did as he chomped on his feed, as if enjoying watching Ticedo do his work for him. the new steer was fairly young, but was bigger than the old steer, Brutis. Ticedo's father set up the steer's hitch, and walked over to Ticedo. "How much you get done?" Ticedo pushed away the hair matted to his forehead "No idea, i was daydreaming half the time" His father chuckled and clapped a hand on his shoulder "Nice job pup." Hearing this, Ranger perked up his ears, and lifted his head to see who was talking about him, but relaxed again when he realized he was not being adressed. Ticedo's mother came out the door and set down the bucket she had brought out for water from the well. "What are you gonna name him?" His father made a grunting soud, but Ticedo said "Julius." His mother smiled and said "That's a lovely name." "Yeah, lovely" muttered his father "Now get over to those stables and get to work." Ticedo groaned a bit before walking over to the stables. A big bay horse trotted over and held his nose over the fence. Ticedo patted his nose, and the horse grunted. Ticedo went inside the stable-house and grabbed a brush before hopping the fence. He ran the brush through the big bay's coat and mane, cleaning him throughly before moving on to the next. About an hour later, Ticedo had brushed the fur of all the horses, as well as using a chisel to pick mud out of their shoes. The sun was low in the west, and Ticedo sat up on the fence and watched it for a while. Ranger came bounding across the lawn and barked at Ticedo, turning his head torwards the house, and then back at Ticedo with his dark blue eyes. Ticedo nodded and dropped down before heading to the house with his dog. Dinner was served. Ticedo's father had shot a deer, and so there was veal tonight, along with potatoes. It was great. Ticedo's father was a great cook. Having filled himself up, he went to bed, and was out in a short while. Life was good, and Ticedo was content.

Or was he?

The bandit looked down at the helpless woman and pulled back the bow string. He smiled as he let it fly. Ticedo dove in the way as the arrow bounced off of his armor. The woman swooned and batted her eyelashes saying "My hero!" Ticedo smiled heroicly as he pulled back his own bow string, letting fly the deadly arrow. It hit him right between the eyes as he toppled. More bandits poured out of the cave. Ticedo grabbed the woman by the waist and pulled her up onto his horse. He turned around and cast a spell that blew away the entire cave, and rode of. On the back of the horse, the woman held him closely and said "You saved my life." Ticedo smiled "Don't mention it, my dear lady" "How can i repay you?" Ticedo smiled "Well..."

yeah right...

-16 years old

Ticedo woke slowly, grudgingly. He wanted to see where that dream would have gone. He smiled to himself and stood up, scratching his bare chest and stumbling over to his mirror. His hair, whose bangs had been touched up enough so that he could see, was all over the place, pointing in all the compass directions, and adding a few of it's own. He shook his head a few times before it was back to normal. He loved his hair. All he had to do was shake his head a couple times, and it was better. His face had matured a bit more, and he was starting a little bit of a beard, as well as growing out his sideburns. If it grew the way he planned it, the two would meet under his chin. He wasn't exactly handsome. He was in fact rather plain. The most noticible factor were his eyes. They were a piercing gray-blue color. They had an almost hypnotising effect, seeming to peer into the onlooker's soul. He threw on a collared shirt and stepped into his shoes. His feet had grown as well, but had gotten another pair of doeskin shoes. He had made these himself. His father had taught him how when he was 15. He opened the door into the kitchen and saw neither his mother or father. He looked out the window and saw his two brothers doing the work he used to do. He got to sleep in as soon as his younger brother was 14. His youngest brother was as capable as the fourteen year old, but was only 12. His mother was sitting under a tree with Ranger, now fully grown. She had a book open on her lap, as she liked to read outside. His father was hitching up Julius. Brutis had passed on before the harvest, and Ticedo's mother had demanded they bury him. Ticedo and his father had dug a grave for most of the day. He might not have been as big as Julius, but he was still big. When Julius was gone, it would take Ticedo, his father, and his brothers. Ticedo went around and said "Good Morning" to everyone before opening the gate and hopping up into the sadle of Black Jack, his own horse. He was a big bay-black horse mix. Little big for a black horse, but he still had the speed. His father walked up to him, regarding him with mock suspicion. "Where exactly are you heading?" Ticedo grabbed the reigns and patted Jack on the nose. "I'm heading out to see if i can find any friends of mine in town." His father nodded and patted Jack on his flank. "Alright, be back by sundown. Ticedo nodded at his father. In two short years, he was already taller than him, and his hair was turning gray as well. He was starting to see that his father was getting older. It was hidden deep in the back of his mind, but it was there nonetheless. Ticedo bucked up Black Jack as his brothers looked on in wonder. He loved being the oldest brother. Just the way it made him feel. As he rode to town, all thoughts of his dream were gone...

Black Jack snorted as he was closed into the the stables. "Don't worry about it Jack, just hang here for a while," Ticedo said, and then, under his breath "and watch out for that orc chick. She's looking at you kind of funny." Ticedo walked over to the two imperial workers, and told them to keep an eye on his horse. He pushed open the imperial city gates, and found himself inside the city. Almost right away, Ticedo saw that some sort of festival was in town. He found several of his friends there, and they deceided to look around. After messing around for a while, they came upon a gypsie fortuneteller's tent. Ticedo and his friends entered, and she pulled out some chairs for everyone to sit on. She started waving her hands around a crystal ball. "Is there a Ticedo Duranium here?" Ticedo raised his hand, just a little bit later. One of his friends, a wood elf girl, squeezed his hand tighter. He hadn't even noticed her holding his hand. Now he could feel his face turning red. 'Good thing it's dark in here...' "I see the stars. They show a pattern. It appears to be...the Shadow. Ticedo felt a smile cross his face. 'That sounds cool...' She started calling out more names, starting with the bosmer girl. "I am seeing the name Kirsty" She slowly raised her hand. The light from the candles played across her face, giving it a red-orange glow. He felt an attraction for her he hadn't felt before. He thought back to her hand on his. 'Wow,' Ticedo thought 'There must of been lots of clues like that.' He shook his head. 'How clueless am I?' "I see the form of...The Lover" Kirsty's face turned even redder through the candles to a chorus of "oooooo"'s and cat calls. She looked at Ticedo nervously, and he smiled. She smiled back. Now that he wasn't so clueless, he could turn on the charm. After all, she was pretty good-looking. The rest of the group got their birthsigns, one of the guys getting The Lady, setting everyone off in a fit of laughter. When they got out of there, it was already almost dark. Ticedo said he had to go, and the group fell away to see what things were still here. All but Kirsty. She stood there, her hands behind her back, nervously biting her lip. "I have to be home too" she said, her green eyes meeting his gray-blue ones. Ticedo nodded. "You don't live far from me right? Over by the forest?" She nodded. "Comeon, i'll take you home on Black Jack" He led her out the gate and over to the stables. Ticedo opened the gate and got Jack's saddle ready. As he looked around, he thought there were fewer horses than before, but he dismissed it. He had other things to worry about. He hopped up onto Black Jack and led him out of the stabble. He held his hand down to Kirsty, smiling as he did. She took his hand and he pulled her up, gently setting her down on the back of the saddle. His mother had practiced with him a while ago, for when he got a "lady friend", as she called them. She clasped her hands around his waist as he made Jack canter out onto the path. He turned back and said "Want me to speed it up?" Kirsty smiled up at him and said "Bring it on." Ticedo smiled and put Jack into a gallop. Kirsty held on tighter. 'This seems kind of familiar...oh well' They soon reached Kirsty's house. Ticedo noticed a bale of hay with a red target on it. There were several arrows in it, none of them straying on ring from the bullseye "Well someone's quite the talented archer" said Ticedo, smiling. Kirsty turned red and said "That's my brother. He trying to impress girls with his archery." Ticedo seemed to contemplate this. "Does it work?" he asked her. She laughed. Ticedo replayed her laugh over in his head after it was over. Kirsty's laugh was beautiful, and it made his heart feel light. "From time to time, yeah." she said with another smile. Ticedo hopped off the horse and picked up the bow nearby. He grabbed up an arrow out of a quiver and notched it on the bowstring, pulling it back and taking aim. Kirsty sat sidesaddle on Black Jack, watching him with interest. He let it fly, and it hit the outer ring. Ticedo pumped his fist into the air in mock bravado. "Oh yeah, how awesome was that?" Kirsty kaughed again, fillign Ticedo's ears with a sound better than any music. He held the bow out to her. "You care to try?" She smiled and hopped off Black Jack. "I couldn't possibly beat you" she said sarcasticaly. Ticedo smiled and said "My awesome marksmanship could defeat even the best wood elf archer. She shook her head and walked to her door. "See you around Ticedo" He put down the bow and held up his hand "Good night, m'lady" he said with a flourishing bow. She giggled one more time before opening the door and dissappearing into the home. Ticedo walked happily over to Black Jack and patted him on his nose "Jack my friend, that is quite the woman." Jack stomped his hoof and neighed. "Yeah yeah, we'll get you a girl too." Ticedo hopped up into the saddle and turned him around torwards home. "I saw you checking out that white horse back at the stables. Don't worry, i'll put in a good word for you."...The conversation continued all the way back to the ranch.

The zombies all charged. Ticedo swung his silver claymore and few times, lopping off limbs and heads, which rolled around on the ground. The necromancer controling all of this smirked at Ticedo. Ticedo smiled right back and drew his bow from across his back, and loaded an enchanted arrow. He aimed it at the dark mage. He called his zombies around him, and Ticedo raised his bow to the rock ceiling of the cave. The arrow was loosed and it exploded on contact with the ceiling. It started dropping rocks down. A zombie who had snuck up on Ticedo was crushed by a rock as he tried to attack. Ticedo put away his bow and took off down the narrow path. Rocks fell all over him, who dodged zombies as well as rocks as he made his way out. He saw the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak, and put on a burst of speed. He reached it just as the roof caved in. Ticedo threw himself out of the tunnel and hit the ground with a roll. He stood up, brushed himself off, and walked off...

-Age 18

Ranger, now with plenty of gray around the muzzle, pushed open the door to Ticedo's room, which stood slightly ajar. He put his front paws on the bed as he observed the young man still sound asleep. with a huff, the old dog dropped down and made his way to Ticedo's dresser. Ranger jumped up, landing his front paws on the dresser next to the bed, sending a glass of water tumbling over the edge, spilling all over Ticedo's head. He jumped up quickly, stunned awake by the cold water. He looked around, and saw Ranger looking at him. If a dog could have a smile, Ranger had a big one. Ticedo smiled, and stepped over to his mirror. His father had gotten his wish. Ticedo had gotten a haircut, his hair now being pretty short all around, but still having bangs, which hung down above his eyebrows. He shook his head a couple of times, feeling the strangeness of his new, shorter hair. His beard had also worked out, starting at the sideburns and meeting under his chin. Ticedo threw on a collared shirt and some sack cloth pants before stepping out into the kitchen. His family was already there. "Morning Ticedo" said his mother as she walked by and stood on tip-toe to kiss his cheek. He had gotten taller, and was now almost six feet. Ticedo sat down at his chair, across from his two brothers, who were wrestling in thier chairs. They were 16 and 14 now, yet they were still immature. Ticedo's father and mother had worked together to make today's breakfast special. Ticedo was going to join the Imperial Legion. They were doing a kind of bootcamp for prospects. Ticedo's father finsihed his paper and adressed his son. "You ready for this pup?" Ticedo grinned confidently. "Let's just say you won't be able to call me pup soon." Ticedo's father smiled at this. "Well then, let me live it up while i can, finish your breakfast pup!" Ticedo wolfed down the rest of his meal, and said bye to everyone before heading out to Black Jack. Ticedo looked over to the woods, but didn't see what he was looking for. He walked over to the stable, and found Black Jack standing next to a white mare. "Alright, comeon lover boy, we got somewhere to be." Black Jack snorted and shook his head, but let Ticedo put his saddle on. He hopped up on top of the horse and chided him out the gate and off torwards the Imperial City....

The walk to the training grounds seemed to take an eternity to Ticedo. He passed others on the way, and some going the opposite way, bruised, limping, one supporting another. A good-sized lump was building in Ticedo's throat. When he finally arrived, the gates seemed to be 5 times taller than usual. He swallowed, and pushed the gate open. Imperial troops were training with men, some his own age, some older. A man with a kind face approached Ticedo. "You here to join the Legion?" Ticedo nodded confidently. The man smiled and pointed to a make-shift armory. "Pick out some armor." Ticedo walked over, checking the different armors. There was the regular Legion armor, which looked cool, but was far too heavy. There were several other kinds of armor. Ticedo tested the weight of all of them, not being quite satisfied until he came to the chainmail. He tested it, smiling, and began putting it on. The smiling man addressed him "Is that the armor you've chosen?" Ticedo nodded once again. "All right, then prepare yourself!" He threw a longsword toTicedo, who caught it, not realizing what was happening until the trainer came at him. Ticedo instinctively put his sword up to block the slash. The impact tore through his arms, and he gritted his teeth. The man withdrew his sword and went at Ticedo again, lunging with his blade. Ticedo rolled under it, bringing the flat of his blade against the man's leg. He let out a yell and dropped to his knee. Ticedo sprung up and pushed the man over onto his back. He brought his blade to the man's neck. "He smiled again "Very good, but you are still young." He grabbed the blade with his gloved hand and pulled it, forcing Ticedo, who hadn't let go, forward. He then reached out with his other hand, punching Ticedo squarely in the jaw. He staggered back as the man got up. Ticedo went for another run, this time with his fists. The man held up his hand "That's enough." Ticedo stopped. The man laughed, not even out of breath. Ticedo's jaw throbbed, and he was breathing in deep gasps. "Your not bad for a rookie. Ever fought before?" Ticedo shook his head and the man laughed. "You've proved your meddle. What's your name?" Ticedo stood up a little straighter "Ticedo Duranium" The man rubbed his chin a bit, and said "I think i served under a Duranium. Anyway, the names Burcan." He walked over to another station and yelled back "Comeon, your not done yet." Ticedo sighed, and contiuned on, feeling his jaw where he already felt a bruise growing...
