[LIST] Forgotten/underdog mods

Post » Tue Oct 06, 2009 12:22 pm

[NOTE: You may want to look at the thread, this list certainly isn't complete.]

This is a list of mods that are of reasonable to great quality that just aren't popular enough. Mods to suggest onto this thread would be mods with a low(er) download count and possibly old that people just seem to miss all the time. It would also be great if you could specify the mod's category, as well as provide screenshots if there aren't any already existing for the mod.

In reality it's my effort to support modders who didn't/don't get the support and popularity they deserve! :D

The list
Mods are listed by category, categories listed alphebetically

I was thinking about this the other day, actually. Good idea.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=467 is a nice little mod. It was one of the first I ever played, and I always remember it fondly.

Ah thanks, I'll add that. Doesn't seem like an underdog mod, but it looks as if it's been forgotten over time. Thanks. :)

Another list someone's gotta put together is a full list of modlists, there's lots of good modlists that are forgotten. :)

Although they are your own, I think they look nice, I'll add them to the list.

I was also debating in my head if I should add some of my own underdog mods to the list, I was leaning toward not doing so, but if you guys would want my mods to be on there, I'll put them on.

LOL. :P

I was joking. One is just a reskin and the other just a simple lodge that hasn't been updated yet(yea I am updating it. Just taking a while :P)
Hardly anything worthwhile for a list.

Well, I think your mods are worthy of the list, so I added them. :)

Here's two more. I don't know how many people know of them, I found them after I thought I had played every mod and I really enjoyed them. Especially 'the arcane guard'

Those look cool, I'll add them to the list, but, what category is the first one? Is it just an item, or is there a quest?

Both are Quest mods.

I feel a little bit jerkish plugging myself and NOT having it be a joke, but since its release, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6267 has slipped under the radar. It even comes in Original Gray, in case you don't want Mournhold to be the Emerald City...

Your doing better than me, my most popular mod has around the amount of downloads that that one does. Most of my mods have a 100-400 download count, it can be demotivating sometimes...

I'll add it to the list though, since the list is to help out underdog mods, your mod fits the purpose.

Seriously though people, do you think I should add some of my "underdog" mods to the list? Most of my stuff seems to duck under the radar after a while after release, and it would be nice if more people were enjoying my mods, after all, that's what I made them for!

Damn, I totally forgot to rate it, although I use it ever since first released - situation corrected now! :) I didn't even know about v2.0... :(

I have http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6383, a mod I put in a tremendous effort and it was downloaded/rated at a rather "meh" level...

Your Grazeland tree replacer, it should have been downloaded much more than it is (about 200-something downloads if I recall).
Also, your signs. Way to little downloads.
Also your ivy retexture.
Your own Telvanni Manner is also a great mod if you ask me, and it only has also around 200 downloads.

Those are the mods by you I really enjoy and think they should be more known, so yes, by all means, add your mods to the list.

I wouldn't consider that an underdog though, it's got around 1000 downloads and has a rating of 10, however I like that mod (and use it myself) so I'll add it to the list anyways to support it. :D

EDIT: Chaka ZG, thanks for sharing my opinion... I had really thought that my Grazelands tree replacer would've gone crazy because of what if offered, but nope, a lot of my mods just can't seem to take off. Take OSBL or Oblivion Style Bethesda logos, that's a project of mine I had worked on (and I've been updating stuff lately) that I worked/work on with the same passion of say my animated menu, yet nobody seems to notice them...

Thank you. However, it is an underdog when compared with the newer AoW Museum, which got more than double the downloads and 4 times the ratings... ;) Note that I did most of the research about bump mapping while endesly experimenting with the shields mod (for months), before I came up with AoWM, so a bit part of the latter mod's success is due to the first one's experience...

Nevertheless, again, thank you... :) If you may allow a small advice from an older modder: while your mods are excellent, you fragment them into small bits and that's not helping much... Should you gather more things into a larger mod, you'll have surely more dls and ratings. I know this is not a general rule - I've seen very popular mods with only one sword released, albeit that was some FF-inspired, 8 foot tall, 1 foot wide blade, with spikes at all possible protuberances... :) But it certainly may help improving your download rate, if you are following that.

I am much surprised about Plangkye's Green Mournhold - I reckon that texture set is easily at the level of her Telvanni stuff (heck, just look at the screenies for AoWM, I love those textures!), but I see a sort of a parallel between this and my own above-mentioned situation... Good taste doesn't apply to everyone, so there will always be excellent underdogs out there (that's why your mods are also suffering, SWG)...

Cheers,
PKR.

Seeing as we're plugging our own mods... http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6385

I can't really complain abuot the reception (or lack thereof) this mod has gotten because I can see why it wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea. That and I made it because of a request. I guess it could be worse, it could have a rating of...1. :hehe:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=4709. Pure simple fun. They are in fact quite hard to find, unless you're looking for hidden stuff specifically you're not going to stumble upon them one after the other. My level 30 character only has 5 of them at the moment.

One of the few signpost replacers not on http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm is Adamant_2001's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2964. I like this one because it stays close to the look of the original (no fancy colours), and the writing is in Daedric only, as on most of the other signs and banners in Vvardenfell.

I've been using Plangkye's Green Marble Mournhold for quite a while now. Usually I'm a die-hard purist, but I've actually decided I like the 'emerald' textures better than the alternative grey ones. :) As for PKR's Forgotten Shields mod, I came across this a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe I'd never heard of it before. It's some of the most amazing work I've seen on PES, and I'd absolutely love to see a similar replacer for the weapon artifacts.

Orphier's done some of them! They're really good, too! The only one I don't use is his Chrysamere, but that's only because I use a VagabondAngel mesh for that one.

I like business type mods and this one has definitely slipped under the radar: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=399 by Graphite.

I like this mod so well that with Toccatta's generous help with the scripts, I actually made a Morrowind Crafting compatible version of it using the Morrowind Crafting foods instead. If anyone is interested: http://denina.kikaimegami.com/viewtopic.php?t=328.

-snip- As for PKR's Forgotten Shields mod, I came across this a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe I'd never heard of it before. It's some of the most amazing work I've seen on PES, and I'd absolutely love to see a similar replacer for the weapon artifacts.

Thank you, glad to hear that! :foodndrink: As for the artifact weapons' replacers, see below (I recommend using Oriphier and Plangkye's replacers).

Orphier's done some of them! They're really good, too! The only one I don't use is his Chrysamere, but that's only because I use a VagabondAngel mesh for that one.

True, Oriphier's done most of the long bladed artifacts - if not all - if I'm not mistaken. SWG, I suggest adding Oriphier's replacers to this list, as they are totally amazing and they are really low on downloads/ratings. I certainly hope some day Oriphier will listen to my advice and compile all these replacers into one big mod... ;)

Plangkye, funny you mention using a VA mesh for Crysamere and I think I know which one you ref to, as I used it as well in the past. I also used the original mesh (without the gems), with a darkened env map, for Umbra (until I downloaded Oriphier's replacer)! :) I'd also add here your artifact dagger replacers, all outstanding pieces and all underated!

Cheers,
PKR.
