Former MilitarySniper Build HELP

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2016 8:11 pm

Ok, so I'm preparing for the Automaton DLC by starting a new build, one that's not really Canon.

In it Juno, a Former Military Sniper and Local Hunter, obviously falls back on her Military training and Hunting skills to survive the Wasteland and Find her son.

Just looking for some general tips and tricks from the pros, if it helps hers what I have planned:

Primary Weapon: .308 Hunting Rifle (Long Range Scope, Short Quick-Eject Mag, Full Stock aka non Marksmen Stock, Long Ported Barrel) I'm undecided on the Silencer.

Secondary Weapon: Taurus Raging Bull (in reality, it's a .454 Casual, but in my case it's .44, basically it's got the Bull Barrel, and Fully Upgraded Chamber, with Comfort Grip).

Melee Weapon: David Bowie Knife (Stealth Blade)

Ultimate Back-Up: Undecided

Just need some tips for finding a lot of ammo, mainly .44 and .308, also need help on finding Ultimate Back-Up Weapon. Prefered something small, lightweight, and Non-Scoped (Reflex Sight ok).

Also, whose a good faction for her to join, I wanna say the Minutemen, but dunno.

One final piece, any tips for good armor? Will post a pick of her soon so you'll see her. I want something that'll look good, I don't really car what the effects are just if they look good, so your personal favorites are welcome.

Rifleman and gunslinger naturally. Being former military and a hunter I would suggest toughness. Ninja and sneak if you plan on making the most of the stealth blade maybe adding in some Mr sandman if you plan to put a silencer on that rifle. Awareness would be a nice addition just playing off the background. Moving target for reduced sprint cost. A lot of people don't like the sniper perk but what can I say I like maximizing my effectiveness. :D you can do a LOT with vats too if you plan on using it.

Luck 6 7 and 9 I would say are nearly essential for VATs, better criticals, critical banker and four leaf clover. 8 grim reapers sprint is exceptionally handy. If you want sniper that's perception 8. Rifleman is perception 2. If you plan on going it alone definitely charisma 3 for lone wanderer. Ninja is agility 7. Gun Fu is a lot of VATs fun against groups but requires agility 10.

That was my second guess.

So any tips for a Ultimate Back-Up weapon, was thinking Silenced 10mm Pistol, that good?

Any good Armor Combinations?

Best possible backup weapon is probably the Deliverer pistol you get if you join the railroad. Small, nasty, crazy rate of fire, hits hard, cheap ammo and you can put a silencer on it. Absolutely brutal gun. And you can get it well before the point of no return in their questline if you don't want to commit to them.

If you're gonna use a 10mm I'd say get a wounding or explosive one. I myself run a sniper using my Kansas City Shuffle (.50 2 shot hunting rifle, long range scope, quick eject mag, long wooden stock) Kremvh's Tooth for melee and my Deliverer fully upgraded for a sidearm. Armor wise I rock my silver shroud armor but there's so many choices. Anything you can put BW on and stack more armor is great.

From a "real" military point of view:

You can have a Navy Seal build with Aqua Boy/Girl, Big Leagues for Pickman's Blade and General Chao's Revenge, Stealth, Ninja, Sandman, Cloak and Dagger Deacon's Perk, Gun Nut, Armorer for Muffled/Shadowed/Ultra Light gear, Hacker, Locksmith, Moving Target and Rifleman. Boost your INT to be able to hack and command robots (Robotics Expert). Pickman's Blade is actually a Ka-Bar. You can mod your rifle and attach a knife to it and make a Bayonet. No need for Luck or Charisma and all that "sissy stuff". You are smart, silent and effective and can survive in a harsh environment. This is if you like to sneak, of course.

If you don't, go "Baddy Infantry" with Power Armor, Big Guns, Basher, Strong Back, Adamantium Skeleton, Medic, Gun Nut, Bloody Mess, Armorer and Science for PA Mods, Scrounger for lots of ammo, Toughness and Life Giver. High Endurance and food, lots of it, Purified Water, Radaway and Stimpacks

Here's the thing: No drugs (you know better than that if you were a military in the past), no stealing, pickpocketing, cheating or lying.

This type of build is the one I always do first, and is my favorite.

Starting with the SPECIAL, strength is among your lowest priority. Perception and Agility are the most important. Luck and Intelligence are fairly important. Endurance and Charisma are less so. You dont need 10 in anything right away, but you need an Perception at 8 for Sniper perk and Agility and Luck at 7 for Ninja and Better Criticals...more on perks this below. The others really depend on anything outside of sniping and combat, and more on crafting. Low intelligence you can mod ballistic weapons and high intelligence for energy weapons

Perks: Gunslinger and Rifleman for weapons. Sniper for VATS. Sneak for stealth. Ninja for stealth-attack bonus. Optional is Penetrator, but it is handy at later levels.

After that, you can take perks for modding your guns, I wouldnt worry too much about armor early on, but once you get to 25ish you can invest in strength and then armorer perks. So having intelligence though allows for gun nut perks, which if you are like me you enjoy the ballistic weapons rather than energy (though energy is better for robots, so if you find a nice sniper laser or plasma rifle...keep it stored, I have one myself and I'm glad I did as I too am awaiting for the DLC). If you want to mod energy weapons, you'll need the Science perk.

Another set branch out options are in the Luck tree: mainly Bloody Mess (5% dam bonus) and Better Criticals, but also Four-Leaf Clover which has a chance to fill crit meter with each hit...as a sniper that crit meter is your friend in big fights). Also Action Boy is Agility helps with gaining AP faster.

After that, anything else is up to you whether you get some settlement perks, or extra stength, or just save perk points for a bigger investment later on when stuff is level locked. Also if you want to be more effective with melee, a 2 in strength will give you access to Big League Slugger.

As for finding ammo, .308 ammo can be a pain to find. I have found though game will provide more of what you use with random loot, but if you in exterior areas a key thing is to look for sniper nests. Any raider settlement might have a spot where a sniper overlooks an area. Find that spot and there is usually a container with some ammo used by them. Those spots are your best chance for finding the ammo when exploring (.50 and .308).

As for that ultimate backup weapon, I suggest a shotgun. You are a sniper and vulnerable when, not if, someone gets up close. Whip out the shotgun, enter VATS, and double tap that thing on their face. Great thing about shotguns is they fall under the rifleman perk.

A word about armor: you can mod armor without perks to a point and you wont need much more because you take fewer hits when farther away and in stealth. I liked grabbing a gren BoS suit or military fatigues and some leather or combat pieces. If you do get into armor modding, adding Shadowed to them is great for stealth as well as looks.

Also one last word on supressors: Yes. Makes it a lot harder for enemies to locate you when they get alerted. Another advantage to being a sniper.

Combat technique: Use VATS for an instant kill first shot or as a finishing shot after manually doing the first (dont forget to hold your breath). Use VATS from a distance to scan for and locate enemies, track them in your scope and take out target that pose the bigger threat to you or the ones farthest from their friends (chance they wont know they just lost their buddy).

Remember, only move forward when it is sfe to do so...you are not a close-medium range fighter unless you have AP to "snipe" someone from 20 feet away or you have that shotty.

Good luck.

For a ultimate backup id suggest a full auto pipe carbine of some sort. Lots of .38 around, get it nice and short so it doesn't seem that tough to carry around, and if someone gets the jump on you you can pull it out and spray down whatever is threatening you in a fit of full auto panic.

There are several ways to look at this. Certainly a scoped Hunting Rifle is where it starts. A Long Recon scope is what you want for a sniper. Now you can take a .45 Combat Rifle and mod it to .308 and stick a scope on that. I use a medium scope with mine and it's a very good medium range high volume rifle. You can make a small area uninhabitable done right.

My favorite rifle though is an Assault Rifle with a short or medium scope and a big mag. Just the ticket for nearly all combat, outside of head bashing.

If you want to RP a sniper, go with the hunting rifle over the combat rifle.

But the combat rifle blows away the hunting rifle performance wise in FO4, sadly enough.

I actually had it wrote out, she (figuratively, have to build it of course) takes her old Hunting Rifle (the one she used for hunting game) and used it. I'm thinking a Double Barrel Shotgun is good, can Role Play that she put a strap on it and it's flung over her shoulder. I think it's better cause, hopefully, it will only be used very rarely.

Hell your ultimate backup weapons could even be a sack of grenades and molitoves because if your hidden they don't tend to give away your position.

If I wanted to do that I would have titled this "Stealthy Explosive Help". It's not.

If I'm hidden that means I'm taking a shot at the knee of a target 200 yard away with a Aretic Sniper Rifle.

If you can name the reference your officially my new favorite friend...
