Fortify Enchanting potion question(s)

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:04 am

I have all the relevant perks for Alchemy, my skill is 100, I have a full set of gear with 40-ish% bonuses.

When I create an enchanting potion it only gives me the 30% bonus for 30 seconds. This would easily be long enough to actually enchant the item, but would require very fast typing on my chat pad (xbox 360) in order to rename the weapon/armor.

Q1: Does the 30 seconds of the effect still count down while in the "keyboard" renaming things? (xbox 360)
Q2: Is there any way to up the time of the effect on the potion, or is 30sec the max? (the commercial versions give up to 60 seconds, but less bonus that I've seen)

30 seconds is it, but you can get more than 30% bonus by using a restoration potion combined with your gear while creating the alchemy potion. Typing the name doesn't count on the first item, but does seem to count towards any subsequent items. I'm also not convinced that it does give you thirty seconds - it seems to either give you about five, or forever.

Basically what I've found is that if you select the stuff you want and get in the naming menu, you can take as long as you want. Try to do the same with another item, and you will find the potion has worn off. You can do two items but only if you name really fast or skip naming.

My recommendation is to save and then play around with it.

Anyone else have different results?

You could also drink a potion of restoration right before drinking the potion of enchanting.

I also have problem with dual enchanting. Like I already said in a previous post, I quickly choose an effect like Fortify Health, which gives me 72 points and add quickly Fortify Magicka but it gives me only 62. So I had to restart again for 3 x before getting my ring enchanted with twice 72. As previously I had enchanted 72-72 a Necklace, I knew it was wrong. Or sometimes it gives me a certain number for the first enchantment and at the second, the first number changes and becomes inferior so that I have to try many times before getting a result. What I do is drink a Fortify Enchanting of 37% and quickly enchant without renaming. For the second item I drink again etc... I never stay long. Sometimes it works and sometimes not (bit bugged those altars). If I drink a restore health before what does it suppose to do?

EDIT: For Alchemy I have 5 gears at 29%. Circlet, Falmer Helmet, Gloves, Ring, Necklace. (It's possible to wear Circlet with a Falmer Helmet).

I'll have to play with it some and find out. Thanks for the information.

I like renaming stuff because that way it won't get confused with random loot. My first set of ring/necklace I just made them and didn't rename so I had to be super careful not to sell it along with other loot. Not to mention it gets my kids to roll their eyes when they see my "Daedric Axe of Awesome" ;-)

I haven't tried the fortify Restoration potion or gear option, just fortify smithing and alchemy. Very interesting.

I know it might be confusing but I created
Gold Diamond Necklace
Gold Diamond Ring

for Fortify Health and Magicka. For the Daedric weapons I press the Favorite key and as they are all (Legendary) at very, very high prices, I cannot sell them by mistake. The same for my Glass gears.

Always "Favorite" the items you don't want to sell. The little arrow will prevent you to do it...

As long as you have the item, enchantment(s), and soul gem selected before the 30 seconds are up, you have unlimited time to type the name. Changing anything else after the time limit will eliminate the potion bonus, so decide on a name last.
