Fortresscraft

Practically every game you buy these days builds on earlier games. There's nothing inherently wrong with taking MC's concepts and making them your own. FPS games were once known as 'Doom-clones', but that doesn't mean the genre has no right to exist and should've ended with Doom.

Just figured I'd give my opinion on the matter.

Here's another: wow, does FortressCraft look ugly. It seems someone just applied all the graphical effects, textures and models they could without a single thought about style or coherence :P

The water looks really nice though. I'm still going to check it out. IF IT EVER GETS RELEASED TODAY!

Also, Fortresscraft isn't a ripoff, it's a different game based on the same concept as Minecraft. You don't see people flaming Diablo-clones like Torchlight do you? No, because Diablo doesn't have the rights to the concept behind it. It's the same with Minecraft, Fortresscraft and all the other "Minecraft-clones" out there.

This is pretty much the most important quote in this thread. I don't really care if you really love Minecraft and hate FortressCraft for copying it, but this is just how it is. No need to start flaming and crying "rip-off".

That said, I don't really care about FortressCraft and wont be getting it (also, I don't even have Xbox Live, so yeah :P).

I think the problem is that it's pretty much impossible to do a Minecraft style game and not have it look a lot like Minecraft. After all it's still a landscape made out of blocks.

Dwarf Fortress is more robust in alpha than Minecraft is in beta, oh yeah and it's free. Paying for a game in alpha/beta doesn't sound like a very good deal to me, honestly.

I bought Minecraft in alpha too, but I won't argue that it was a "great deal", especially with how slow the development has been.

MC already bores me, and ets face it now it has 1mil sales wh would notch be motivated to keep working ? Hes rich, and the fact there is work on another game "scrolls" MC will update even slower.

Scrolls has been in development since November. MC reached 1m sales in the first week of January. Yes, MC is still being developed despite the 1m in sales. Notch was "rich" in October, strangely enough he keeps working on the game despite being rich. Weird huh?

Notch is not working on Scrolls, it`s a separate team of Mojang employees working on it.

It might be a rip-off, but it looks like a good rip-off. I'll probably end up getting it unless Minecraft turns up on 360, which is very unlikely at the moment. After all, it is said to be a combonation of Dorf Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft, which I both liked lots.
