Forum background changes

Looks good so far.

Except the glaring white Bethesda logo stabbing my eyes.

I gather the theme only changed in the TES section? Because I'm not seeing any change in CD (thankfully), apart from the glaring white Bethesda logo at the top, and the lack of stars/icons.

Doesn't really mean much to me - I try to avoid the TESV forum as best as I can. It is literally painful reading threads there.

I dunno if this is related or whatever but to the left of the thread names there is usually an eye which means I've responded to that thread and usually a circle with an arrow in it which takes me to the last unread post in that thread.
Yeah, those are gone, can't see them anymore, quite frankly it's pissing me the [censored] off, any idea if it's related to this background change or how I can fix it?

Bleh...every change seems to make the forum worse in my opinion. Every update makes the forum uglier and uglier.

I don't like the new background since it makes it harder to read the posts IMO. There should be an option to change it back, the old one was more convinient to read.

The ES sections looks nice, but not much else. What happened to my stars? And what do the two bars under everyones name mean?

Edit: Oh wait, they just replaced the PM this member and Add this member as a friend icons. Or maybe it's just me.

Ah I do miss my stars. And the read/unread symbols on the side of the thread.

It's obvious that they're still working on the forum. A lot of things look broken.

Yep. I can't tell which threads are locked or not either unless I actually click on them. This is nuts.

a repost from the other forum update thread:

Here are a couple of bugs I've noticed from the latest update:

  • http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5459839/Photos/lockedbug.png

Other things worth mentioning:
  • Rank stars have been replaced by grey blocks
  • Huge white Bethesda logo looks out of place
  • new Skyrim background is distracting (after the skyrim guy was added to the picture), it makes it difficult to read the forum
  • The forums are still as slow as ever (The Bethesda theme), this hasn't changed since the last update a few months back and it still gets on my nerves

Also, why, WHY is there flash on the forums? :cold:

I know it's been there a while I just think it's unnecessary. Why make the forum even slower by using flash?

EDIT2: It would also appear that the forum update broke my chrome extension. or at least the parts of it that use jquery. I have no idea why it stopped working, but it works fine on all other websites so I have to assume that it has something to do with the form update.

I'm still not entirely sure why a PC capable of maxing out crysis has noticable scroll lag from transparent elements over a fixed background, but there you go. Stylish still to the rescue.
Also missing unread icons, making the forum almost unusable. But hey, there's a fancy image now.

What is this "last reply" button everyone speaks of? I've been here since September. Am I that oblivious not to see the icon?

I got used to the latest massive overhaul of the forum, I didn't like it at first but as I said, i've gotten used to it. This though...The skyrim forum is basically transparent with a picture in the background, it makes reading a topic incredibly distracting and plain uncomfortable. I don't mind background changes, like the parchment on the CD forum, but having every thread be transparent to show off a screenshot we've seen many times is too much if you ask me.

On a forum you'd think readability would be a high priority, especially on a forum like this where people tend to write long posts, as the Skyrm board is now it's just plain irritating to read, it's uncomfortable and it actually makes me want to avoid the forum as opposed to participating in it.

The Skyrim forum looks terrible now, not because of the screenshot in the background, but because reading it has become much more straining and as a result much less enjoyable, overall i would say the recent change to the Skyrim board has done far more harm than good.

EDIT: in fact, I would say remove the transparency all together, a fancy background is not in any way important enough to hurt readability that badly. I'm a designer at heart, I get wanting to make things look nice, but form can never take precedence over function, the two need to blend together seamlessly or not at all. In this particular instance, form needs to let function do it's thing.

Oy, that background change is terrible. Why did they use a picture of some Nordish guy with a dragon horn sticking out of his right buttock? To make reading posts difficult? I much prefer the setup used by http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/forum/24-oblivion-wipz-relz-mods/page__prune_day__100__sort_by__Z-A__sort_key__last_post__topicfilter__all__st__30 There's still an image in the background, but the forums aren't transparent so it doesn't interfere with reading. A static background like the one here in CD would be good if Beth doesn't want to get rid of the transparency. And what happened to the icons? And where did the stars go? I wantz muh starz back!

@Vyper: Agreed. What with the post box transparencies, a complicated background just makes it hard to focus on the text. Also, I don't like the Dovahkin (sp?) background mainly because part of what I love about TES is that I can make my hero be a male or female. But now I'm having nordic testosterone shoved down my throat. Until I read about it, I didn't even know Mass Effect let the player choose gender because every picture and description of "Shepherd" was always a guy. Yes, I guess I'm being picky, but assuming that the Dragonborn must be male says to me "We intend for you to play this game as a male. But, I guess if you want to be a female, go ahead, but you're not playing it the way we developers intended." =/

I don't think the new skin is working right. For me, all the new post notifications have gone and there are no separators between the levels in the navigation tree at the top. Where do we report problems?

The background changes were started late yesterday and obviously some other problems arose, like the thread folders and stars. No doubt the team will get around to sorting them out today when they get back to work.

The mods have lost some functions as well - but don't worry guys, we can still get around them to carry out our duties. ;)
