Forum Update Feedback & Discussion

You mean like being able to go to the "Fallout" section and have CD listed at the bottom of that...like I've been using since last evening after the update? Or am I just really missing something?

No he means something like http://goo.gl/XzwZ5

And we still need some way of getting direct to CD from the forum index, even if it is just at the bottom of other forums' lists like before the update. And as a pre-emptive strike, there are people who have joined these forums specifically for CD :P

Having CD at the bottom of the landing page was reviewed by admin and moderators prior to the change - we could see the beta version. It was rejected - sorry.

These are forums for gamesas games, members join for the games not CD. The number of people joining for CD over the last few months can be counted on the fingers of one hand, I know because I watch new members joining (part of the job :) ), if they move to CD over time and want to be part of this community they will know how to get here, either bookmarking or having to make an extra click from the landing page is not a great effort.

And you can probably count on no hands the number of people who joined for Rogue Warrior, yet it still has it's own section and three (three!) sub-forums. With the drop down menus on the index giving people access to every other forum right from the index, it gives no incentive to go into your preferred game's own index to see the link to CD. It's not entirely about ease of access - it turns CD into the forums' best kept secret.

You are somewhat overstating the case here - there are links to CD from everyone of the game forums - all 9 of them - hardly a "best kept secret" is it. You could claim it so if there were no links to CD at all. As I said, people join for the games and gravitate here from the games forums, if they like it they stay and they know how to get here. CD is not one of the game forums, it is an off topic forum for members to gather in and discuss other things. The majority of members will post in one or several of the games forums and possibly CD as well, lots of clicking involved so an extra click when they arrive is hardly any hardship.

Oh. Sorry. I guess I misunderstood "even if it is just at the bottom of other forums' lists like before the update" to mean what it said rather than being secret code for something else. My bad.

With the IP.Board skin all the forums and subforums are back on the main portal, like the good ol' days, with CD everywhere.

Hey, those ugly black boxes around our avatars and the Edited by lines are gone! Thanks! Now if we could pretty please get a little more distinction between stickied topics and regular topics. Can we please keep all of the new smileys this time too instead of them disappearing once we grow to love them? :)

Yup, links at the bottom of nine pages which the drop down menus in the index ensure people will never have any need of going to. I'm sure after enough time has passed to give us some usable page view stats, the admins will be able to confirm that. You can put 100 links to CD about the forums, but they're not much good if they're spattered around useless pages. The argument that people "don't come for CD" is hardly convincing enough to merit not having a link in the index. I'd wager it's probably up there amongst the most active forums - certainly nowhere near the bottom - so considering what people come here for rather than join for might be a more logical approach. Someone, somewhere, seems to be falling into the the "rope in new customers, and to hell with the existing ones" mindset.

I see the gripes I screenied have all been fixed. Good job :)

The forum topics page (what's that called, anyway?) is still too gray though. It works find with Rogue Warrior's black background, but against the grays/browns of the CD/Fallout/TES forums, it's none too easy on the eye. More contrast, perchance?

I'll second this. The minor tweaks to the theme are a good start, but the gray/gray/tan is still really hard on the eyes. I'll keep sticking with the IP Board theme for now.

What has happened to the links to the websites on the index?

I liked them. I'm beginning to like this one less and less.

And what is that thing on profiles that shows their "display name history"? Is there a way to change your display name?

I'd so change mine straight away if there was; but I don't think it works - much like the option to 'change photo' in the profile options. :ermm:

I've also just noticed that a few common 'dislikes' have been fixed.

The profile at the side of each post is now smaller and the pinned topics are now distinguishable from the first post in every forum!
Made my day.

I'm one who comes primarily for CD, and might venture to other forums a few times.

One click doesn't kill me. In fact, my normal path here has been the same for going on 6 years and remains the same. Morrowind.com > Forums > CD.

I can't remember CD ever being up with the other game forums, but I never used that method. My recollection has CD always being somewhat hidden (could be wrong).

Also, last time 'round, weren't there many comments from the CD folks about trying to keep this hidden in order to keep flamers away?

Truthfully, my opinion is that it's status quo, no harm no foul. Have an ice cream and cool off?

break

Love the little tweaks, and getting rid of that black rectangle for the user info...mucho gracias!

There used to be a link at the bottom of the board index.

The status quo works, but when they're already ironing things out after an update why settle for a forum that works when we can have one that works well? We need not always strive for mediocrity.

Alright, this is acceptable now. Ugly black boxes around our avatars and edits gone, and now the pinned topics are clearly separated by their gray color. Great work, guys.

Yes, I think the IT team (TS7 and Henning) deserve a round of applause for the work, time and effort they have put in for us, and for the work they do overtime in keeping the forums up and running.

This isn't really an issue, just more of an annoyance.. When I open the editor to post, I can't see the flashing line that tells me where Im going to type if it's at the far side of the screen. It's because the whole editor has a silverish border which is slightly irritating. Not a major problem though..

Yeah, thanks guys, for keeping this old rustbucket going and mitigating the ugly ass aesthetic changes that IPB feels necessary to heap on us.

I appreciate them keeping my favorite board on the internet running, but some of us are just grumpy as a bear (no joke intended ) about these kinds of things. But maybe it's me, but I feel like the choppy forum stuff is disappearing bit by bit, so I know they're working they're buts off.

Agreed, thanks guys! Keeping the best forums active on the internet and looking pretty must take a lot of work; it's appreciated!
I actually think I prefer this to any previous skins now, I really like it.

Can't be the easiest of things keeping a forum of this size running smoothly :)

Question: What do all the other admins do? Other than Gstaff and Nick, of course, who don't count. Do they all just admin the forums, or are the rest all just Petes pretending to be admins?

And now that you can see total posts in profiles again, I am very happy.

Also the new smileys are great.

I didn't read all the pages. I find it uglier than before. Guess I will get use to it, since the last one was uglier than the one before that.

The one thing that pisses me off, is after this what the 3rd or 4th change, there is still no indicator that we posted in a thread. It would be nice to see we already posted in something. I do like how if we want to change forums, we just have to click the forum and not have to hit "go" as well, so that is good.

This must take alot of work to do. Good job guys, this must not have been easy to do, espically with the short amount of time you did this in.
