Forum Update Feedback & Discussion

Apparently the forums are back up, for the most part at least. It seems the avatars aren't working (at least not for me) and there are some odd graphical issues going on.

So what do you think of this update?

There is http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1146917 about forum modding now, where you can find some stylesheet tricks and even a Chrome extension (by yours truly B) ) to modify the new forum look to your liking.

http://www.gamesas.com/avatar.php?member_name=

My Chrome extension is available http://www.exorince.xtreemhost.com/chrome/ExosBSFTweaks.crx (Right Click -> Save Link As)

It now has autoupdate so this is the last version you have to download manually. :) So if you downloaded it yesterday: please re-download it using the link above.

Thanks to DarN for the original stylesheet.

Still fugly, but I don't get any performance issues. Actually seems a bit better than the old software, which had a habit of hanging at times.

I like the new look. It has a few flaws, but on the whole, it's great. Just going to take some getting used to.

Im not having any severe issues though, so..no.

It kept me auto-signed in, so that's an improvement over the last one. I guess I have no complaints.

Other than I can't see my post count so how will anyone else know how much to respect me? D:

Have gif animations been fixed? I think I saw a few. Mine doesn't seem to be animating though, maybe it's just a cache thing. Does it look animated to anyone else?
Yes they have.

Not bad. It's still not all that aesthetically appealing (who ever thought shiny black was a good look?), but I suppose I'll get over that. It does seem to perform better than the last update though, so that's good.

Don't like the look, so I switched to IP.Board. No performance issues on my end though, for which I'm thankful. The search improvements are also great, so I'll cut my losses :)

Just had some fun with the search that's so improved...

Try to pull down the calendars to search for specific dates, but be careful- the highlight bar for where to search kinda gets in the way. :/

I get that choppy scroll problem (Chrome+Vista32). It comes from the fixed background.

This is the year 2010, why do I have to go through all of these extra clicks just to find out how awesome I am?

Also, I too just messed with the colors. That automatically makes this better than the last version.

Yes they have.

And your new avy is awesome. I love the winking avys that are subtle and your avy has that eyebrow thing going on too.

I'm having a bit of a problem remembering how to load the same subsection index at the bottom of a thread but that is just a habit thing I will become used to in a few days and really, it's nicer.

I changed from the default Beth skin to the IP Board skin and I like it much better. I have high speed net & fast PC but it still loads faster. I should have checked to see if there was more than one skin a while back. I don't like pale text on dark backgrounds. Aging eyes maybe.

Beyond the looks/colors, I'm having no issues with the change today. On the Beth skin it seemed the default font had changed, but I'm not sure if's actually true or imagination. Eye problems and memory problems. ;)

One complaint I have is that they got rid of everyones avatar.. I used to know people by their avatars! Now I don't know anyone anymore! (Unless you were smart enough to save your avatar before the apocalypse update..

I'm liking how the posts backgrounds are darker and less transparent. An improvement, although I still like the default grey and black theme the most from before March 10th. :(

Awful Awful Awful Awful Awful Awful.

I've changed my avatar to reflect the new crappiness of this forum layout. My old one is no longer in existence, thank you very much.

Yes they have.

Just keep in mind that if the GIF image dimensions are larger than 90x120, the forum software resizes the avatar for you, but can't keep the .gif animate. If you want the file to animate, make sure the dimensions are 90x120 or less before uploading.

Avatars are now uploaded to the forums rather than hosted elsewhere. I know many members will find this convenient and the mods are all happy that we won't have to enforce the 100k limit any more :)

I'm sick of getting used to new looks, but I'll get used to it just like I get used to the last one. The only problem is I don't see anything related to TES V on here, yet. Also, what happened to my avatar?

I just don't like change in the look in the short-term, but it looks pretty good, despite my missing the old one. Performance issues aren't a problem, for me.

Aww, piss. Mine's 96x96 :/ And the snowflake detail is pixel-width already. The old software didn't have any problems resizing animated avatars?

Yeah, that's one thing Im happy with. However it could potentially cause lag, if all 180,000 users put up avatars.. Now it's BGSF that's hosting, meaning it's their memory being eaten up, not the memory of the host site..

Then again, it's only a droplet in the bucket.. 180,000 droplets...

The old system didn't actually resize them. The new one however resizes it and stores it on the board servers.

Don't really care for it, and it's just slow enough to be annoying. Switched to IP Board, which sped it up to about where the old forums were, but that's even uglier than the original skin.
