Four points in Strong Back = fantastic!

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 2:10 pm

Ok, so I've been playing FO4 since the first day it was out, and have multiple higher level characters. But I never once invested in the Strong Back perk, figured it was a waste of points. I got the Lone Wanderer perk to add carry weight, put deep pockets on all my armor, and stray STR points from gear. It all helped, but I'd still often and inevitably reach that wretched moment where you're deep into an instanced dungeon or building somewhere, and you can't carry any more. So you either have to trek back out and dump/sell a bunch of stuff, or start leaving stuff behind. So I finally broke down and put four points into Strong Back just to see if it was worth it.

Oh my, is it ever! Now, when I reach my weight limit, I just keep fighting on and picking up all the goodies I want to. My 470-lb weight limit char brought home over 800 lbs. of goods once, yesterday. I had misunderstood the bonus from the third point in the perk, which seems to say you can use only use AP points to *run*, while overloaded. Well, it doesn't matter whether you are running or sneaking, it all just uses AP points to let you keep moving at your normal pace, without having to hold down any keys or do anything special. Of course, it helps to have plenty of AGIL and END, to extend your AP bar for this. Sure you have to stop every so often to let your AP bar refill, but with Action Boy/Girl perk, it's pretty quick.

So when yer done in there, you just jog on out like normal, and fast travel home with your bazillion-pound load all on board, no problems. You settlement scrounger packrat types really need this one.

Likin' it!

even better with PA on paper, but you are correct, fast travel with half a ton is still a great perk!

I just can't do it lol, from a RP aspect lol... What I'm thinking is when Brahmin are modded in or we get the mobile base mod that's a better option.

I would like it better if they had a perk for no decrease to movement speed

They have to watch the amount of total 'IWIN' perks that they add to the game, and that would certainly be one of them. There's mods for that, if you are on PC. That or simply the 'give limitless carry capacity' mod.

I agree...but it is a great perk so I end up taking it to ease annoyance.

Spoiler
It's the same with Aquaboy. I mean, how the hell.....does radiation mutant you a pair of gills or something? But I still take it.....hell it's only a game :)

Carry half a ton ? With 11 str and lone wanderer you can carry 410.

I wonder if strong back (and especially lvl 4 when you can travel home with all the junk) is really worth it, it's at level 30 and by that time, me at least, already have enough scavenging stations and money producing settlements.

Well, that's a factor in individual decision, too. If you don't care about making more caps from loot, then you can just leave anything you don't intend to use. For those of us irrationally addicted to the sound of , it's a godsend.

What.. Aquaboy?

(This is sarcasm, only stuff i can think of that doesnt matter when enemys scale to your level was the melee focused ones but they require the skill/tenacity to use melee)

With rank 4 and 2 legendary sprinting legs I can zip around with inf amount of weight. This allows me to pick up everything and power level from crafting.

Isn't it true that using AP, even for running, drains Fusion Cores faster on the Power Armor? If so, then that would be one disadvantage of having Strong Back 3 on PA.

ya but it would probably be a level 50 perk and it is 5 points you need to use just to get it.

I accidentally hit "Take All" from one of my footlockers yesterday and for a few seconds I was carrying 8300 pounds. Made me feel tough. :)

There's already quite a few, including the second rank of the sniper perk, blitz, ninja, several luck perks, sneak. If you count up all the other IWIN buttons in chems, foods, power armour, ballistic weave, settlements, legendary effects and 'unique' weapons then there are more IWIN buttons in FO4 than in any other game I have ever played.... adding another wouldn't have made any difference at all :P

There is also a couple of perks, I think in the Agility, that makes your AP bar fill 25% and then 50% faster.

Be careful if transferring a lot of Purified water to and from containers. I had 83,767 Purified water in a floor safe, chose take and it changed to 18,867, the rest all vanished. I had to go back to an earlier save. Then when storing the Purified water back in the floor safe it happened again. I had to load an earlier save.

It sure does save time, because if it wasn't there I would just end up making 4 trips back like I do in all the other Beth games.

The only real downside (for me, anyway) to Strong Back 4, is that you have to take Strong Back 3 to get it. :P

That sounds like integer overflow. I'm guessing the max is 65,535 before it resets

Strong Back is an incredibly useful perk. I've walked out of some of the bigger buildings after clearing them with over 2000 pounds of junk, armor, and weapons, then just fast traveled home. it's great.

I never go past the 50 extra carrying weight, it feels abit silly to me, but its there to be used.

Some of y'all trippn saying it's not realistic to carry all that weight... yet, a giant lizard with claws the size of a T Rex is believable... or having a perk that completely removes radiation and lets you breathe underwater... ummm OK... Strongback is legit. I'm working on leveling my STR now so I can get that Strongback + specific armor like Assassin's/ Mutant Slayer's >>> PA. Level 73 PS4
