The third era ended at the end of Oblivion.
It will be in 4th if it goes after that event

now that i think about it the 3rd era must be over because of what uriel says and sheogorath says that the grey march is at the end of each era

The Emperor declares the beginning of each new era, right? It's a shame, Oblivion's story is so un-epic and not worth a transition into the fourth era. Maybe from a lore perspective it was, but when you're thinking about the Oblivion crisis as it actually manifested in the game, not so much. What a waste. :P

lol, yeah I thought that was funny, the main story had absolutely no effect on the game other than continuing the main plot. In the middle of doing the main quest you could completely go off and wander around the country side like the main quest had never happened. (Other than seenig the oblivion gates). And life would go on. but the world its self doesnt change in any major way. Its just about as involving as a little side quest. Theres not much distinction.

Yep, a giant dragon made of light fighting a 50 ft. god of destruction in the middle of the imperial city as it was abou to be anhialated was soooo unepic.

The Septim line comes to an end, a Daedric Prince is dispatched by the Avatar of Akatosh, the lands of Cyrodiil and the wills of its people rended asunder by otherwordly menace...

...Powdered deer [censored].

The end of the third era was the very definition of epic.

(DaMuncha - I'm pretty sure you can wander off in the middle of the MQ in Morrowind, too. In fact, if the game roped me into continuing the MQ without pause after I started it, chances are I'd never even bother with it.)

You forgot the Mythic Dawn agents who would randomly attack you in cities. Morrowind doesn't really do anything better, except Dreamers instead of Mythic Dawn agents. Same applies, you can stop doing the MQ at any point and go do something else. In fact there are a lot more something elses you could do in Morrowind.

i think the first half of the fouth era will be very eventful with no emporer to hold the empire together. war will probaly break out between the provinces again especially skyrim and morrowind

Could very well be, although I imagine some of that will be addressed in those ES novels that Bethesda plans on publishing.

Nah, lets crush the Bosmer and Imperials! :P But yes, TES V will take place in the fourth era and that empire had better be falling apart. I hope that Bethesda doesn't uses the novels to get around that.

Oh yea man you are totally one hundred and ten percent right! Two 100 feet tall gods battling it out for the fate of the mortal realm is so like totally unepic. Having the towns of cyrodiil unite against the daedric siege engine for one battle to determine the fate of the empire was also totally lame and unepic. Omfg i don't know why you guys are so damn picky and blind.

Oh total dude your also right about that one were as in morrowind its not like the same exact thing happened  . C'mon guys are you serious? The random mythic dawn attacks, the destroyed siege engine, losing one of the daedric artifacts forever, the citizens of cyrodiil hailing you as the savior and champion of cyrodiil, getting very cool looking yet crappy armor, and you get your very own statue. Also yes if you go off and do your own thing in the middle of the mq there are countless oblivion gates everywere and when you finished the mq they are destroyed. In morrowind you could complete the main quest and it felt like absolutely nothing happened in your world, so i have no idea as to why you would make such a stupid comment.

EDIT: I was being sarcastic incase anyone didn't catch on

Lol, I fear the same thing. We'l probably get to ES V, and it will be, there's a new emperor, but an evil daedric prince Molag Bal is threatening the land. Will you rise up and be the hero?
Instead of civil war or something...

Ssh, don't give them ideas. We don't want another Daedra invasion.

Bethesda, do this and add tons of backstabbing, political intrigue, nobles grasping for power etc.

OOH!
lets have the second war of the red diamond!
With various powers competing for the impirial throne.
I like how devisive the original was said to be in KOTN.
We need another politically driven TES game anyway.

No, (As in, I do like it) I want another politically driven main quest, I would not be happy if we had another Daedra invasion. (Thankfully that won't happen if the devs stick to the lore)

I may be wrong though.

But if it doesn't take place in the 4th Era, it will take place at the same time that Oblivion does, or in the past.

I think it is most likely going to be at the dawn of the 4th Era, but nobody knows the truth, except for Bethesda themselves, but according to them, they have no plans for the future of TES. :biglaugh: which is cleary a lie...

But nobody really knows, but it is likely to be at the dawn of the 4th Era.

Bethesda prbably won't tell us, so we just have to go off of assumtions.
