Is FOV in? Is EU datacenter up?

Post » Tue Mar 25, 2014 2:08 am

So have FOV options been patched in?

Will there actually be European servers that are located in Europe or is Bethesda still claiming that the latency for Eu players playing on servers in US will be the same for players from US playing on server located in the US?

Nah the EU servers will be moved sometime after launch, and i don't think they said it would be the same, they it wouldn't be noticable or impact game performance.

I had 100ms last beta so it's not too bad.

Think FOV was after launch aswell, crossing my fingers it will be soon, the current is waaaay too narrow. Can't play like that.

Too bad, I was hoping that at least FOV would be patched in before release. As it stands there is no point for me to buy the game because it would make me sick and I do not play Elder Scrolls in 3rd person, never have and hopefully will never have to. Shame really, for a long time now I have been looking for an mmo to get invested in. I miss being obsessed with a game lol.

Both have been confirmed to be happening, but after launch.

When I played Lotro, before they merged their EU servers to the US hence EU were located in the EU, I played on both.

I'm in England and another friend in the same guild who also played on both servers is in Ireland. While the latancy was higher playing on the US servers, there was far less noticble lag playing on US servers than there was playing on ones located in the EU.

I think sometimes we get too concerned about numbers and I wonder whether often knowing the latancy is higher, subconsciously makes players feel it's not as responsive etc.

We raided with our US freinds and it was perfect, never a problem

It's actually a good idea to have the servers both in the same place at release, it's much easier to apply emergency patches etc to one data centre than two. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if in a few months when the EU servers are in the EU, when major updates are released, they sometimes appear on the US servers first.

So let me get this straight - they are selling the game in the EU and do not have EU servers on launch - can you confirm that 100% ?

Yes, they have done nothing wrong, many other global games only have servers located in one country, what about our Australian friends, both EU and US are nowhere near them

Okay that is it: This was officially the last Bethesda game I have ever and will ever purchase. I am so done with this bullsh*t.

How about you buy the game after the servers migrated to the EU, which will happen shortly after launch?

He has a perfectly valid point. We Europeans are being forced to play competitive PvP with high latency while paying arguably more than you US guys. They could at least have the decency of giving an ETA for this, but if they don't have an EU datacenter within the first month after release (when I plan to PvE mostly, where latency is less of an issue) I will not renew my subscription.

Please keep this thread civil, I did not start it to start wars.

Lotro, I feel at least, is nowhere near as PvP focused as ESO. Especially when you consider that this game has an action combat system instead of the old and more forgiving auto target hotbar one. A ping of 100ms may be playable, but is it competative?

In TERA, which I played on both EU and US servers the lag on US servers (or US published version of the game) was noticable. Not in the rubber banding sort of way of course, but there was a significant (to me) delay between my input and the action on screen.

Firstly, I live in the UK so stop making assumptions. Secondly the server will be moved to Europe. Google the reasons why before you post...

I think the problem with that is that some people want the pre-order bonuses. Anyway, shortly after launch doesn't really mean anything. Till there is a concrete date for the migration there is really no concrete proof that getting EU datacenters up is even a priority for Bethesda.

What assumptions? Are you denying the importance of a EU datacenter? Why bother with opening one after release then, genius? And I know perfectly well they stated our megaserver will be moved in EU after launch, thank you: it was plainly written in the quote from the official site in my thread about this, which I linked here. The big question they still have to answer is WHEN.

Use google. They were as specific as possible and their reasoning is valid. I'd prefer EU servers in europe myself. But imagine the outrage when launch does not happen smoothly, the EU servers come crashing down and their experienced techs are in the USA ... oh noez, 2nd grade customers, unable to play yaddayadda.

Zenimax is a company listed in the USA. Their employes are there too :icecream:

The launch will not be smooth. There will be outrage. That is the way of mmo launches. That is not a reason for not having servers in Europe. If a company takes money from Europeans they are obligated to give them the same quality of service as they give to US customers. Remember that Bethesda is a huge company and Zenimax is a massive one.

That does not make sense. Like at all! You're saying since it will be rough anyway they should stop taking preparations to smoothen the launch?

We will have the same quality of service: For the first weeks our servers will stand right next to the us server. The same technician gently stroking the us server will also blow a kiss onto the hot plate that is housing the angry europe.

The angry Europe would be a little less angry if Zenimax gave us an ETA about EU datacenter (I also think this was the OP's main point in this thread). "Days", "Weeks", "Soon" ("Months"?) is a little too vague.

Yea it partially is. If for example they said that first post launch patch will have the FOV options I would gladly buy the game, cause that would be something. Sure it is not a specific date, but it's obvious that after launch there will be many, fairly frequent patches.

The angry ZepZep would also be less angry if Zenimax/Bethesda hadn't for a long time ignored or denied the problem of a narrow FOV.

I remember FF14 has both, US and EU servers in Montreal Canada. No offense to canadians, but that hub had to have been the worst experience with latency. Even playing on EU servers as an NA was nowhere near as bad. And guess what? The game didn't have horrible latency problems.

How about we all complain AFTER the game releases and you actually experience if there IS MASSIVE slowdown.

Na players. EU players. You're all forgetting, I don't think most of these games EVER have a server hub in Australia. Ever. Lol. How about we ban together and complain about then not getting a data center? Eh?

Noez, lets all just think about ourselves and have a heart attack while we do so!

Not sure why you are getting all angry. Of course Australians should have servers in their own region.

FFXIV doesn't have large scale competitive PvP or "semi-action" combat. Of course latency is less of an issue outside of Cyrodiil.
