FPS Drop when Near NPCs : Fallout: New Vegas

guys guys guys! i think i found a fix. i dont know if it will work for everyone but yeah. after looking around and seeing the gpu wasnt being utilized completely i figured it could be some directx thing. so i went to http://segmentnext.com/2010/10/19/fallout-new-vegas-errors-crashes-freezes-fixes/ and downloaded the dx9.dll they had posted there to fix the crash after intro video issue. when i started the game the frame rates shot up and there seems to be very little slow down with npcs. my guess is that it is forcing some halfassed dx10 optimization. anyway lemme know if it works for you. ill start a thread for it if it works for people other than me

omg this worked ! But i had to put the file in steam/steamaps/common/falloutnewegas directory not the my gamees directory

Sadly, this fix didn't work for me. I placed the dll into my games > FalloutNV and I still get the lag and stuttering around NPCS :/. For [censored]s sake.

Nice one. It definitely helped my FPS. I used to hit low-mid 30s looking at the saloon and Pete. Now I hit mid 45+.

It did want to re-detect my settings so I had to readjust to make a fair comparison to yesterdays settings, but it definitely helped!

I'd still like to see higher numbers considering my hardware but I can live with 40+ FPS.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me either. I've put it in My Games > FalloutNV and it does nothing. When I put it into the game install directory I get an error at the launcher.

The d3d9.dll fix worked for me.

I had to place it in my steamapps/common/fallout new vegas/ directory.

The game is smooth as silk now.

From sluggish and slow when a couple NPCs on screen to absolutely flawless and fast.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me either. I've put it in My Games > FalloutNV and it does nothing. When I put it into the game install directory I get an error at the launcher.

Did you replace d3d9.dll or dx9.dll? I've yet to test this, and I have the same machine as you. I won't get to test it for a few hours....

put the new d3d9.dll file into both your "my games/falloutNV/" folder and your steam install folder by the exes. You have to use the one from that site because its an older version.

It won't let me download the one from that site, tells me there are too many connections from my IP (and there aren't). Can anyone re-up elsewhere?

Putting the d3d9.dll in my SteamApps/common/Fallout New Vegas folder worked.

This completely fixes the problem for me. After copying over the file, the next time you launch the New Vegas launcher it will auto-detect your settings again. It said it had autodetected that I should be on Medium settings. I then set everything to High and started the game.

I just got down fighting a massive running gun battle with all the residents in Freeside, 15+ NPCs on screen at once and runnings everywhere. NO slow down. NO jerkiness. The framerate stayed high, smooth, and with no hiccups. So again, confirmed fix for me.

The replacement d3d9.dll worked perfectly. Running at 1920x1200 with Ultra Settings smooth as silk now, regardless of the number of NPCs on screen and explosions going off.

Right, okay it works now. I put it in both my games > New vegas and COPIED that one and pasted it into my bethesda > fallout new vegas folder. Oh my god, I can't believe this actually works. Thankyou so much. Kaje, try this.

Anyone know if this new fix is safe?

Its safe and it really does work i just downloaded it and put it in the installation directory not the documents one... it gets rid of about 90% of the lag there is just a little bit but it is so much better... i would rate this a 8.5/10 for a hotfix
