FPS drops, is it normal...

Post » Sun Dec 20, 2015 2:50 am

I'm running a GTX 780, quad-core 3.4 Hz and I'm getting relatively frequent drops in my FPS. It's common for me to see it drop from 60 to 35 and sometimes even as low as 20. It jumps back up most of the time but there are certain areas where it sits around 30-40. Is this normal?

I'm running a GTX 770 and an 8-core 3.5ghz and my frame rates are all over the place. I think a lot of it can be stabilized by lowering your shadow distance range and by using FXAA instead of SMAA or TXAA or whatever the higher AA setting was.

I still get some bad drops though. Some areas are a lot more dense than others. Sometimes you'll be in an area that exposes a lot more distant LOD which bogs the game down.. there are a lot of variables that cause FPS drops.

I am used to playing a lot of games on Playstation 4 so the framerate doesn't bother me all that much. It's annoying, yes. But I can live with it. I just wanted to know if anyone else had the same issue(s) and if it was normal.

It was ultra, I've changed it to medium with very, very little noticeable difference.

I still find it perplexing people think a PC is just CPU & GPU, [censored] the rest.

I have an inferior GPU and never drop below 50 on med settings, ultra textures, 1080p.

It happens. I know some parts of Boston get really bad when flying over them in a Vertibird, and standing at the top of corvega seems to hit me hard to.
