One thing I noticed is that I can good fps when I first start the game, but as I play longer, maybe a half hour, it gets worse. One example is the falkreath area. I might get 30 fps at first, but later it'll go down to 20. Is there any reason what that would happen? I wonder if it's a heat problem, but I can't imagine it would cause that much of a difference.

! have that problem too. Pretty sure it's caused by overheating in the cpu which then causes under clocking. Would love to hear other opinions too.

Well on a somewhat unrelated topic I fixed some crashes I've been having. The game started crashing to a black screen and I had to go to the task manager to end it. I took out the enb I've been using and without it I didn't have any crashes. I'll have to try out ways to make the game look good without an enb.

If you have a decent PC, you could download the High Resolution Texture packs, crank your resolution up, and enable AA and AF.

I've got a gtx 660 with 1920x1200. The game runs just fine with all the vanilla settings maxed. The enbs look great, but they really hurt fps. There's a mod on the nexus called "I can't believe it's not enb" which is basically a sweet fx preset. Is sweet fx better/less demanding than an enb?

You shouldn't have problems running an enb mode with that. !!!!

Have you overclocked your CPU ???? (That's the only reason i could thing overheating your CPU. !!!! - but again that's not mean that your CPU is not working at high temperatures.

Beside that if it gets too hot, you computer would be restarting anyway. !!!!

I haven't overclocked my cpu. I've been using the realvision performance enb and it's been fine for the most part, there's just always an fps loss after playing for a little. I don't know that the enb causes the problem, it just makes it more noticeable. Maybe I'll just experiment with a different enb preset. I tried using nvidia inspector to manually make the gpu fan faster, but I don't think it helped any, I just put it back on auto. Thanks for your help.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3211/? There are a few of these now. The one for FO3 and FNV helped my game quite a bit with fps and stability. Over heating is still an issue for me though.

You don't need that for Skyrim. LAA has been enabled since 1.3.10.
