FPS performance w/ new DX11 + High Res(screenshots included)

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:05 am

First of all, I'll include my system specs. I haven't upgraded in a long time so don't laugh.. lol

CPU: Intel Q6600 overclocked at 2.9GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 460 1GB overclocked at Core: 850MHz Shader: 1700MHz Memory: 2200MHz (beat that LOL)
RAM: 4GB DDR2 overclocked at 1033MHz (from 800MHz)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

The rest doesn't really matter.

Anyway, here are the results of my quick test.

First screenshot, everything on Ultra, DX11 enabled w/ High Resolution and of course at 1080P. I immediately noticed hardcoe input lag with my mouse. I would move my mouse around and it would take about a whole second to respond lol. It's never done that before =/ Idk if the screenshots lost quality due to converting them from BMP to PNG (they were 6MB each lol)

35 FPS here. Not bad right? That's what I thought until I went outside..

17 FPS! I tried to engage in a fire fight and it was wayyyy too laggy for me.

So I decided to lower everything from Ultra, to extreme. 58 FPS in the same spot I got 35 FPS with everything on Ultra.

To be honest, performance was excellent.. but I kind of missed the way some of the textures looked.. like the gun. Here's the same 2nd screenshot of me outside. 35 FPS compared to 17. Much better

So I messed around some more.. Kept objects and game at Ultra, and did a mixture of Extreme, Very High, and High for the rest. Now, same spot at the stairs.. 68 FPS (constant for all 3 times, it wasn't jumping around.. it didn't move)

And here's me outside. 40 FPS, a mere 5 FPS increase.. but look at the detail on the gun.. much better and realistic looking.

I also set my max pre-rendered frames to 8 (Nvidia Control Panel) but I'll mess around with that later.

As you can see, my rig couldn't handle the game at Ultra. But maybe yours could! Hope this comparison can shed some light on what performance you can expect.

Edit: I had the images embedded but this forum has a very narrow post view, so you won't be able to see the entire image anyway. So I linked them instead.

Can you post the exact settings you're using now?
And also whats the major loss if you switch from ultra to extreme, but keep dx11 and texture pack on? It desn't look like the graphical difference is too big unless im blind. Which if true, is impressive to me. I like how crysis 2 settings manage to look similar even if u tone stuff down. My rig is a gaming laptop and i can handle the game at a low rez on extreme, but ultra makes me drop to around 17 fps and i dont like that either so i'm just curious as to what your config is now that's working for you, maybe it will work for me :D.

So far I can have dx11 and textures on high as long as i keep the othe rsettings at extreme. Not much of an fps impact for me if i do that.

If some of you are experiencing performance issues you can try my settings above and keep most of the eye candy. The game will render smoothly and it will still look great.
