Post » Wed Jun 01, 2011 6:02 pm

how is everyone doing? anyways, i have a question about crysis 2 and i was hoping i could get some help. i have the game at very high settings but my frame rate is around 30-40. here is my setup:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Processor 3.30 GHz
8.00 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2

i think i have a pretty good comp and so i was wondering if there was anything i could do to increase my FPS. thanks in advance.

actually 8 gb ram is recommended for current systems these days:

Based on our measurements and impressions (and taking falling prices into account), we thoroughly recommend a minimum RAM size of 8 GB.

I've got 12 Gigs of ram. You gonna laugh at me too? :)

But yeah, your GPU is pretty weak. Might want to check into some new ones that are out at decent prices like the 560ti

No. Ctrl+Shift+Esc > Performance tab. You're not using 8GB. You're not even using 4GB. 8GB is only recommended if you're going to be doing heavy video editing/rendering, which you're not.

i hit 4 gigs of ram use all the time with multiple internet tabs up, skype, ventrilo, music player, instant messenger, live feed, logged into rift and world of warcraft, while playing crysis 2, it is awesome cuz i dont have to load or open anything cuz everything just open all the time, all i do is tab between whatever i feel like doing, those of you who cant afford RAM just do one program at a time? lol

i have 4gb ram.. i have firefox with pandora playing music, outlook for calendar, 2 messengers, and other stuff running while playing crysis 2.
Still instantly able to alt + tab between applications without lag.

And yea you probably won't be rendering movies and 3d models while you're playing Crysis 2.

RAM is overrated.

Also 4870x2 is more than enough to play crysis 2 at 60fps if you don't care about visuals.

I LOL at you, sir.

8GB is PLENTY for gaming. Name one 32bit game that consumes more than 2gb of RAM. Good luck finding one, cause you won't. 2gb is the memory address limit for user space on a 32 bit system.

gpu is outdated bro

also lol 8 gb ram

Umm ... 4GB is the max addressable by 32 bit, but in practice its a bit less, around 3.5GB-3.8GB ...

Anyways, 64GB allows you to use all your RAM ... and then some (more than what would be practical these days)

Anyways, to the OP: What everyone is saying, old graphics card, I've got a 5970 and I run it it 40FPS on extreme (still feels a little lower than what I thought it should be), but it could also be a lack of multi GPU support since you've got a 4870 X2

A game still cannot use more than 2gb of RAM on a 32 bit system. Trust me sir, I've done a ton of research on this during my Supreme Commander days. ;)

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx

The most RAM an application can use on a 32bit system is 3gb, and that is if you're running the 3gb switch and the application being run is large address aware.

Yes, a 32bit OS can access 4gb of RAM total, however it's split in half, 2gb for the user space and 2gb for the kernel space.

Umm ... 4GB is the max addressable by 32 bit, but in practice its a bit less, around 3.5GB-3.8GB ...

The 4870x2 SHOULD be more than enough, my 4890 is hitting 55fps on most maps (very high settings), 45 on the really gpu intensive ones. Your issues are probably due to crysis 2 not liking dual gpu's.

I think something may be going wrong for you...

I also have a 4870x2, phenom II 940 @ 3.6 and 4gigs ram. Always get 60fps vsync limited at very high settings, typically 45 - 60fps on extreme @1680x1050 res. Unless you're playing at a higher res than me?

I know of only one game in which lots of RAM actually does help and thats Arma 2. If you're not playing that 80% of the time you don't need 4-8GB.

Why did a debate start over 8 gb of RAM. Its so cheap nowadays that in some cases 8 gigs on sale is cheaper that 4 gigs. I bought 8 gigs of Corsair XMS-3 RAM a few months back and it cost me around $80, meanwhile 4 gigs that had the same timings T-ras shorter by few ms was $100 :S, so whatever. Either way the day will come, soon, that we will really need more than 8 gigs. As soon as 64 bit gaming begins it definitely will be.

PS: Andy, you probably have 50-80 fps because youre on a low setting. But really, as long as youre above 30 youre good to go.

Having more ram is handy anyways because you have other applications running in the background that is more dependent on ram while you game thus multitasking but that's what good processors are for. Nothing wrong with having lots of ram. Sure 16gb is too much but who cares. More power, less worries lmao.

Wait til they release DX11 then we're gonna have fps dips lol.

my 4870s can handle the game on High settings @ 1680x1050 with acceptable framerates and it's much smoother than playing it on the 360.

Yeah that's a great card for the price. It does better than the former king the GTX480 in many games.

http://www.techspot.com/review/359-nvidia-geforce-gtx-560ti/page9.html

See if you can get an A1 revision of the card, they have the lifetime warranty as opposed to only 2-3 yr.
