One thing everyone needs to realize is that if you want to record a game that is at 1080P and at 60FPS and you don't want the FPS to fall, you not only need a fast CPU to handle the writing of the video (and still run the game smooth) but you need to be writing to a hard drive that has some pretty fast write speeds. I bought a separate 1TB Black Caviar WD drive to record to. With windows and Crysis on my other 1TB BC drive AND trying to record to the same hard drive too, it would drop too low at times, especially if the drive was barely fragmented.

I can record around 45-60FPS with 1080P and Crysis 2 max with Fraps, usually sits around 45 (vsync on). Turning off vsync can give a slight boost in some cases as well.

Fraps isnt crap, its just a raw file. Xfire does the same and converts it automatic bevor uploading.
Using Fraps is very simple and all you need to do is fixing the recording FPS in the programm. (set the recording frames to 60 fps).

We use $30 PlayClaw because it is multi-threading and works very well for us. For technical details about how to record and post-processing with free codecs and tools to upload an HD video to YouTube see this post...

I use Gregion (free) which is alot like Fraps. File size will be huge if you want good quality. If your only plan is to upload to youtube, I can't think of a reason to record higher than 30 FPS unless you plan on doing slow motion. If you are going to record 1080p at higher FPS, consider recording to an SSD and then moving the files to a regular HDD after you are done gaming.
