Freaking Beggars

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 10:31 pm

I was wondering if there will be beggars in Skyrim. If so then will they always remain beggars. In OB I eventually gave every beggar at least 2000 gold but they still walked around asking for gold to buy shoes or food; I thought it was ridiculous!!! Since Skyrim as more tasks for NPCs, will beggars eventually stop begging if they have the required amount of gold or can NPCs turn to begging if they lose their livelihood?
Your thoughts???

The beggars rocked! I really like the idea that people can change classes in a game. Example a rich person to middle class

Even the Robbers are Stupid, they wear the Armor that can buy them a House and get Food for Life.

That's a really awesome idea... I would love for giving money to beggars to actually help them. It'd be a great money-sink too, because it'd definitely take a lot to get them permanently off the streets. And it'd be rewarding to have the ability to change the status of people in your game from rich to poor, instead of only being able to choose if they're alive or dead.

I agree with you there Daventry. Full deadric or glass armor and they still live in a campsite and rob others. So here is the question, is an NPC always the same or can he/she change their stance in society?

I completely agree. I always wished I could get http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Deeh_the_Scalawag off the streets. :shakehead:

I'd actually take that a step further. It would be great if we could buy up most of the property in the game and CHOOSE who to let rent/buy from us. That could be incredible if done right.

I hope the beggars in Skyrim walk up and say "Yo man I got these cheeseburgers man" and try to sell them to you.

Other than that, I agree in the hopes that RAI will allow beggars to become rich or at least off the streets. To counterbalance this, it would be cool if people who once owned homes could become bankrupt and morph into beggars.

Chaaaaaange???

Oh leave'em alone!

Let him dream. But it would be nice to see them at least buy better clothes. Either we have reverse pickpocketing or a gift giving feature.
Like say your on good/neutral terms with a person. They will probably accept. While more negative characters will think you poisoned or spit in the drink you offered to them.

I would give them money, watch them rise up socially, and then rob everything they have again. :D

Better clothes is a bad thing in the begging trade. Maybe their food bags should fill up with wine and mead, or is that just my natural cynicism?

I guess Bethesda never honestly thought people would donate to beggars outside the theives guild quest. I know I didn't. Why did you give them so much money?

After reaching level 20, especially on the 360, gold came easily to me. I thought it was kinda funny to lower my disposition with beggars and then bribe them, lower, bribe, etc...
The most gold anyone has ever had was Cosmus the Cheat at 25000 gold!

Well if quests can be randomly generated to some extent and the quests will shape themselves after our skills and experience, it only makes sense if beggars economy can be changed using the same knowledge based system as radiant story uses :)

If the game has a good econemy system, like has been hinted at, perhaps..

Just as long as the beggers dont act like the ones in the original Assassins Creed, it's all good... :P

Just had a horrible thought, with the radiant story and that : Your usual beggar is gone, and in his place is his sister,
"With all the coins you gave my brother, he moved south and bought a house in Cheydinhal. But before he left, he told me how generous you are. Now, one more coin and I can get me some shoes."

That was kinda annoying to me; actually a guard talked to me in beggar's voice on a particualar topic that I can't recall right now.

Besides, I can't think there will be too many beggars in Skyrim. Most Nords can pull their own weight.

I'm hoping this will be implemented, I would actually feel like I did something good.
In Oblivion it felt like the money was just wasted, nothing changed.

Eh, you obviously don't know how beggars work?
No matter how much money you give them, they will drink it all.
At least that's what I tell to myself to save me from that flaw where you can cover a beggar in gold and he will still beg as if he was poor instead of jumping 10ft into the air from happiness and went to buy himself a new pair of shoes.
The point it, you're right and I like the idea.
Still, maybe it shouldn't be limited only to beggars.
You know, when you bribe someone or give him money for some reason, maybe we should see that character buying himself a better clothing/weapon/whatever.
