I'm freaking out!

So my government contract that kept me employed has currently been cancelled. So now for the first time in 27 years I'm forced to find a job on my own, no daddy to help me and stranded in an unfamiliar land. I have put an application in to a local retail store and it has been about 2 weeks, I called the assistant manager yesterday to inform him that my phone number had been changed and I gave him the new one. While I did this I asked him if he could tell me the status of my application and he said that he would be going over them that night and he would call me if he got to mine.

Well its been two nights and I'm freaking out, he hasn't called, emailed, nothing. Now that would be alright because I'm fully aware that these things take time and I'm sure he is busy since he basically runs the store. But I can't help but think that I gave him the wrong number in my nervous haze and that he tried to call me but got some old lady. So what should I do? Should I call and double check that I gave him the right number? I don't want to sound clingy and be calling him everyday because that would irritate the piss out of me. So what do you guys think? Sorry for sounding like a freak by the way. Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Prizrak

Call him tomorrow to check on the status of your application. Most Managers should see this as a sign that you care about working there. And could be a good fit. It probably would depend though. Just keep looking around though, ask questions, and seem interested in working in whatever you're applying for.

And as always dress nicer than a job requires. Go to McDonald's wearing a nice suit, even though it's a crap job. Well that was just an example.

Alright do I just ask "Hey hows the application coming?" Gods I sound like a creeper, you probably think I just crawled out of my mothers basemant. I always over dress so that isn't an issue. If and when I get an interview I'll be dressing very nice.

Don't focus so much effort on any single application (at least when it's still only at the resume/application stage). If you're seriously hunting for a job then you should be submitting several applications each day as you locate job openings that may be suitable for you. Once you hear back regarding one of your applications that's the time to focus a bit of effort to make sure you give the best impression possible in the resulting interview. Submitting just one or two applications then sitting around and waiting to hear back is a good way to remain unemployed for quite a while.

Well I'm not in a hurry to get a job I have a large backflow of cash. But I would still like a job that is why I'm looking for one but not as vigorously as other people might.

Dont put all your eggs in one basket. Fill out multiple applications to different places and follow up on all of them every 48 hours.

Every 48 hours? That sounds awfully quick, I'll start putting other applications out as well after I call the assistant manager of the retail store and check up with him.
