Free Daggerfall won't extract...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:53 am

Well, I read on the UESP that Bethesda released Daggerfall for free, so I downloaded it.

I have followed all instructions so far, but just opening the Daggerfall to extract it, an error comes up saying the format is invalid or broken.
I can't extract to the folder it says, or even my desktop.

What's wrong?

Sounds like your download was corrupt. Clear your browser cache and try to download Daggerfall again.

Oh, hehe, it worked

I remember I clicked something on the downloader while it was downloading the first time, thanks :P

EDIT: I was only able to install the lowest file size of Daggerfall, not the huge. What does that mean?

I'm assuming you're using DOSBox. In which case it probably means that you didn't mount your virtual drive with enough free space. When you mount your virtual drive, you must have "-freesize 1000" at the end of the command. Here's the command I use to mount "G:\CDrive\" as a virtual drive:

mount c G:\cdrive\ -freesize 1000

Did you read Bethesda's http://static.gamesas.com/downloads/games/daggerfall_legal_and_installation.pdf?

Yea, I am using DOSBox, and did -freesize 1000
And followed Bethesda's guide perfect.

And the game run's perfect too, but since it's the small file, what will happen?
I think my computer just svcks.

Well, it just means that it will read most of the data from your virtual CD. Since your virtual CD drive is just another folder on the hard drive, there should be no real impact to performance.

Just out of curiosity, if you run the "DIR" command within DOSBox, how many bytes free does it say you have? If the -freesize 1000 parameter is working properly, DIR should report 1,048,512,000 bytes free.

Hmm... Could you post an exact copy of the command you use to mount the C: drive?
