There are many books that are in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain and are just waiting to be read and often in various file types as not to discriminate against other file types because they would like to all be created and read equally.
Here are some websites that have these free books (careful though as you will need to check your countries laws to see what is safe to download but generally if you're in the U.S. then you're okay to go).
http://www.borders.com/online/store/FreeDigitalLanding?type=45&nav=0-Unfortunately I believe they only allow American users to download free books but fear not for I will provide more links to the free power. Also unfortunate, is that books from borders are only offered in pdf and epub formats (to read the epub formats you'll have to download their ereader app) but luckily these books are often available on other free publications sites and in different formats.
http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page-An awesome website that hosts millions of texts in different formats. Again, check the laws in your country to make sure you're not breaking any laws and get thrown in jail and have to escape to tell the forums about your stay with a prisoner named Bubba who cried himself to sleep every night.
http://www.archive.org/details/texts-Also provides free eBooks but there are a lot of different subcategories including a Canadian and Universal library
And don't forget to make some suggestions for reading material! If you have a topic you're interested in or a favorite genre that is beaming with material be sure to share!
