Free House Alchemist's Shack

Post » Fri May 25, 2012 10:00 am

During my travels, I discovered a few free houses. Now, we all know that it takes 1 month in-game for the containers to be re-stocked/respawned, thus emptying out our stored things and respawn enemies in some locations. But there's one place I like called Alchemist's Shack near Ivarstead town, Haemar's Shame cavern, and the Throat of the World mountain. There's no bandits living in that shack and no one owns the items in the shack (the original alchemist never returned, meaning either deceased or moved away,) meaning you can live there. So if you want to live there, all you have to do is keep track of the time you live there for a month and once you reach near end of the month, just remove your items and allow the time to pass and then put the items back in. You also get more respawned stuff from inside the containers after the month passes. You do it once every month, just like in real life you have to clean and organize stuff once a while. I'm also an Alchemist, so it's a nice place to do alchemy work, harvest re-grown plants, and relax with the beautiful scenery outside.

Haemar's Shame Cavern is a good place to store close by to allow the time to pass. Like I said, it's only once every month in-game. Plenty of time to do so much before returning back to the shack.

...and why so many Dragon Bones and Scales? They're very heavy and can slow you down. Craft them and then sell the armors, or just sell the bones.

I don't think you need to move them out every month. The counter just resets when you visit, so just visit at least once per month and you should be ok.

...At least I think that's how it worked in Oblivion.

There's a few houses like this in the game which don't respawn and loose items - one is actually in the ruins of Helgen. They're mentioned in the official game book.

Or just don't loot Dragons.

Well, thanks. If you know of any other place, let me know. As for Helgen, it's unrealistic in the sense of role-playing. Personally, I imagine people will have to come back to rebuild Helgen and they would find me being a homeless bum living in the middle of a burning ruin. Haha.
