Free running?

Post » Sun May 15, 2011 6:04 am

Maybe once you hit a high enough acrobatics skill if you sprint towards a wall at an angle, jump at it, then you'd run along it for a short duration, or run towards a ledge and jump which would allow you to clamber up it if it was low enough and there was enough room at the top of the ledge to stand. Just imagine Mirror's Edge stuff, except not as extensive and you have a sword. Maybe even have certain areas only accessible by free running in certain areas and dungeons. In Oblivion you could jump on water so I don't think it's too farfetched.

Meh, seems too ninjaey. Yeah I'd like to see my character climb stuff, but running off walls? What's next, dodging arrows Matrix style?

jumping on water in oblivion, besides, wall running is an actual thing people can do. Not to the extent you see in movies, but it is a free running move.

That's magic though. That's an exception.

I think free running is okay, without the extra fancy stuff like flips or twirls just for tricks.

I think you should have this ability when your a Werewolf. this would change the gameplay enough when your a werewolf so it feels fresh/different, yet it would probably work/ feel right in TES.

Yeah, but it's just something that looks "cool" and has no function at all unless they add certain parts in dungeons that require wall running which I highly doubt due to the fact that I can't see some fully armored out orc preforming that feat. Also, jumping on water was actually useful to me believe it or not, I could get across the water much faster if I didn't have a spell.

Of course, you could get a ring or boots or potions of Water Walk long, long, long, long before you'd ever have 100 acrobatics.

Edit: as for the main topic...... eh, doesn't seem to fit the setting. (the water skipping thing doesn't either. and that's got nothing on parkour....)

This could also be included part of the acrobatics skill, if it's still in.

Wait, look at the highest rated comment. That means it only works with sufficient grip on the surface, both the shoes and the surface being ran on.

I basically would just want an easier time running over bumpy terrain and rocks, something levitation could also be useful for.

You can pretty much jump Ninja-Style around on rooftops anyway, atleast in oblivion you could. I ALWAYS had fun exploring the rooftops in bravil and such.

I hope at least for more realistic and weighted jumping to make rooftop hopping seem less stupid and more cool. Hoping also to see ladders and use them and have guards/enemies use them. Would love much more as part of a climbing skill, but we will not be seeing that this time around. So these are my optimistic expectations.

Climbing, free running etc. would be incredibly useful for thief/assassin characters and some others.

Might be cool if you have an acrobatics of 100. Would be nice to see in 1st person.
Even just running up walls a little bit and then leaping backwards for a higher jump would be awesome (and this is possible, even I can do it).

Yeah, get rid of the Dark Brotherhood! In fact, let's get rid of everything Stealth or running and jumping related so that we can just have "Elder Scrolls".

You all should play Daggerfall, it provides the most epic free running and climbing skills ever, especially for a game from the previous decade where no one ever even thought of Assassins Creed (Yes, I know your motivation!)

Perhaps they should get rid of everything and change it into "The Elder Scrolls: Ancestor Moth" where all you do is read Elder Scrolls until your eyesight goes.lol:P

Anyway, I'd like the free-run idea, but it would have to be done very well, as if you could free-run anywhere aka. in towns, you open a whole new opportunity for the game to glitch likely via. Collision errors and what not, and no inside out invisible buildings for me.lol If anything I hope climbing makes a return from Daggerfall.

Running on walls isn't stealth. It's what little kids do to amuse themselves.
