Is this confirmed cuz I really hope it is. I for one just want to ability to jump onto a map and go crazy as a light, then as a Med and a Heavy. Find the fastest routes and the ones only certain body types can use. It will be nice not to have to worry about weapon spawns or enemy spawns.

And by crazy I intend to learn each of the maps. Find best vaults, wall jumps etc.

It will most likely be the SMART deminstration. It won't be a full world , just an empty map to run around in like Wraith stated. FIne ways to move

Freeplay is most likley just standard matches with no campaign attached. They probably call it "freeplay" because you are "free" to "play" the matches how you want. They can't call it multiplayer, since there is no separate single or multiplayer.

I don't think it is, since none of the devs, ever, mentioned anything about this. They did however, say that you can play campaign or just standard matches. When does an FPS feature a mode where you can just learn the maps? That's the whole point of playing the game...to get better.

I don't think they have announced it just wishful thinking. Most FPS's allow you to set up a game by yourself, in fact I do it all the time. Yes but trying to learn certain things while playing online is difficult and annoying to teammates. I would rather be offline learning routes then doing it in the middle of an online game and have my teammates yell at me for not doing anything.

Things to do while offline.

Find carney holes
Find routes
Practice using SMART
Get a general feel for the map

Things to do online:
Improve by playing other plays
Learn by watching other people play

By "this mode WILL be in Brink"... do you mean that you have confirmation? Could you elaborate on that for us, KillerCross? Maybe give us a link to the interview or video that mentioned freeplay?

well what i'm hoping is its something like fallout or red dead, I would just like to do my own thing if I wanted to and if theres a fight going on in some town there should be some kind of alert saying there is and where its at if you want to join. or at least be able to go out and start your own fights. all i'm saying is, I want this to be a free roam game so you can do whatever you want, granted I see you CAN do whatever you want, like whatever objectives but if you think about it...its still pretty linear. i'm sure once you've done all of those missions in that area its joust going to be as repetitive as any other game

Freeplay has already been said, BY DEVS, to just be standard matches, instead of the story based Camapign.

In other words, Freeplay is like playing a typical FPS match, like in BC2 or MW2, but which objective based gameplay only.

BRINK is a team-based FPS game. Freeroam just doesn't make sense.

No, Don't turn into the only guy on the boards that everyone hates please

Look i realize that Bethesda's name is on the game but that doesn't make it an RPG nor an MMO. If you want what your talking about go play Global agenda or something.

THERE IS NO FREE ROAM IN THIS GAME ITS AN FPS damit

I doubt it. like they said (I think it was Rahdo):

"In every Brink mission, you’re a member of an eight-man team, tasked with doing a wide variety of military objectives (rescue, search and destroy, infiltration, you name it, the list goes on and on). If you play by yourself, you’ve got seven AI buddies who are all capable of making their own decisions and doing every single action you can do."

Brink is most likely going to ALWAYS be a team based game. The only exception I could think of, is possibly Challenges.

In dont understand what the problem is, there will simply be a local multiplayer option from what im seeing at least on console.
Theres no way Paul Wedgewood as a gamer would leave out something as simple yet helpful as free play, it will take no extra work at all besides adding the option to the menu.
Freeplay not Freeroam dangit.

I think there was an interview where one of the devs talked about being able to reduce the amount of player, some thing along the lines of wanting to support competative gaming and its hard to manage a competative team of larger than 6, don't quote me on this though, just from memory

It exists and is meant for said purposes :foodndrink:

and yes BellTower, you can have games as small as 4 confirmed (lower is possible but it won't be nearly as team based). However Public will always be 8v8.

Well I used to play a game called Section 8. In that game there was a mode called Instant Action. It was like offline multiplayer with bots except you could customize most of the stuff eg score limits, time, # of players, game mode etc you could even put player count to 0 so it is only you playing to learn the maps. The instant action was basically put into the game to allow people to try out new strategies, practice with different loadouts and weapons, have fun offline if say servers were down, and learn the maps.

It still remains to me one of the best features a game has ever had :)

If I'm correct they had the exact same thing in Unreal tournament 3. But then again in UT3 the maps were really easy to figure out so I never needed to do that.
